Dating was new for Kurt, he had only really gone out with one person before, and their relationship began a long time ago. So naturally he was unsure of where they were supposed to go and what they were supposed to do. Not that it really mattered, because he could tell that Blaine wasn't the kind of person to just go along with what everyone else was doing. And neither was Kurt, so they could just make up their own rules as they went along.
It almost didn't feel like a date. It felt like Kurt was just spending time with a best friend. Maybe that was all that Blaine was at the moment, but Kurt didn't have a problem with that either.
Blaine was beautiful, not just now, but always. And not just on the outside either. To Kurt, Blaine was one of those people that's beauty shone from within, making them all the more beautiful on the outside. From what he could tell, Blaine was sweet, caring and completely honest. Everything anyone could ever want in a boy. Kurt wondered if anyone else ever saw past his dark curls and honey eyes and see what he was like within.
“Sit with me for a minute.” Blaine brushed some leaves off a park bench overlooking the lake and took a seat. Kurt took his place beside him, shifting close enough that their knees were touching.
“I think I should probably know a bit more about you if we are going to be living together. And I'll tell you anything you want to know about me.” Blaine began, his eyes wide and curious again.
Kurt swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat and took a deep breath.
“You okay Kurt?”
He ignored Blaine's question and began to tell him about himself. Just the basic things that weren't too intrusive. Middle name, birthday, hometown, family, childhood. The normal things. He appreciated the way that Blaine seemed genuinely interested in everything he had to say, keeping his eyes on Kurt at all times. It still un-nerved Kurt a bit to look at his familiar eyes. A shudder broke through him after he gazed at them for a little too long.
“So, have you ever had a boyfriend before?” Blaine smiled as if he already knew the answer to his question. “I mean, how could you not? Look at you.”
Blaine's warm hand then slipped from his pocket and onto Kurt's, tracing lines on the back of his hand. Kurt bit down on his lip to keep from smiling, but then the question ran through his mind again.
Have you ever had a boyfriend?
His mood instantly dropped at the thought of his him. The boy he once trusted and cared for. He must have been silent for a while, because Blaine started saying his name to try and break him out of his trance.
“Once. It was nothing though.” Kurt lied.
“If you say so,” Kurt shot Blaine a filthy look. “Honestly, I just don't know how anyone managed to keep their hands off you.
And that was just it. They didn't manage.
Kurt suddenly felt uneasy; his head throbbing and his stomach turning.
“I think I should go.” Kurt shifted away from Blaine's touch and began to head in the direction towards home.
“Did I do something? Are you alright? Should I walk you home?” Blaine's concerned voice followed Kurt as he walked.
“No, it's fine. You didn't do anything. I just don't feel so good all of a sudden,” He hurried on walking in case Blaine decided to follow him, but he didn't. “I'll see you on Monday, alright?”
Kurt's steps became even faster and faster to the point where he found himself running. By the time he reached home, he felt even worse. His headache had faded, but now he felt a twinge of guilt swirling around in his stomach. Blaine didn't deserve to have him run away like that. He hadn't done anything wrong. Like any human, he was just curious. And Blaine wasn't like him, he would never hurt Kurt.
He tried to call Blaine, but it was no use; he wouldn't pick up. Blaine would never talk to him again, and Kurt didn't blame him. He deserved so much better than Kurt. He couldn't believe that he had let himself think that Blaine actually liked him.
And just like that, Kurt Hummel had once again wrecked anything good that life tried to hand him.
Kurt had dreaded going to school for the rest of the weekend, and faster than he would have liked it to, 6 am Monday morning had finally arrived. There was no way Kurt would be able to avoid Blaine today. Monday was one of the days that they had every single lesson together. What were the odds of that anyway?
He considered getting Blaine a coffee to say sorry, but later realised that not even caffeine could solve his problems this morning.
Kurt arrived at school, looking less than fabulous, and not expecting much from the day ahead. So he was incredibly surprised when Blaine smiled at Kurt from his locker.
“Hey Kurt, I-” Blaine sounded as chipper as ever, as if nothing had ever happened.
“Blaine I am so sorry I ruined our date. You didn't deserve that and it's all my fault and I never told you how wonderful you looked and-” Kurt rambled on, almost hysterically.
“Shh Kurt, it's fine, I get it. Things are moving too fast and you want us to slow it down a bit and I'm fine with that.” Blaine murmured in Kurt's ear softly in an attempt to calm him down.
“No no! That's not it at all!” Blaine jumped back in fright at Kurt's tone. “I like where we are. There's just- Why are you laughing Blaine, this isn't funny!” Kurt stopped as soon as he noticed Blaine laughing quietly to himself.
“Now who's the one rambling?”
“Only when I've been an insensitive idiot,” Kurt looked back into Blaine's warm eyes and mumbled. “Please forgive me?”
“There is nothing to be forgiven, but if that's what you want,” Blaine reached for Kurt's fingertips, but didn't want Kurt to run off again, so he placed his hands back down by his sides. “I just wish you would tell me whatever is going on.”
Kurt dipped his head shyly and stared at the ground for a moment. He had noticed Blaine take his hands out of his pockets and wished that he could hold them. But there was no way that Blaine would want to do that again after Saturday.
“You can trust me Kurt. I'd never do anything to upset or hurt you.” He could feel Blaine's eyes on him again, but he still couldn't tear his eyes away from Blaine's hands, twitching every now and again.
The bell rang for their first class of the day, snapping Kurt's head back up.
“Maybe I'll tell you one day,” Kurt teased as he began to gather his books from his locker. “Guess you don't want to move in anymore huh?”
“Of course I do, but only if it's alright with you.” Kurt heaved a sigh of relief, and at the same time, Blaine got the courage to stroke Kurt's fingers with his.
“I thought you would never want to touch me again.” Kurt confessed, staring back down at their hands, in awe of the way Blaine's skin felt against his.
“Don't count on it,” A smile stretched across Blaine's face. “There's going to be a lot more where that came from.”
