The smell of freshly made lemon and blueberry pancakes fills the air around Kurt as he finishes serving them up on a plate while Blaine was still fast asleep. He places the plate on the tray sitting on the kitchen counter ready to be taken out.
Kurt had been so thankful to Isabelle for letting him have the time off. Blaine had really needed the support over the past week. After Frank's death Blaine found himself hardly leaving their bedroom. Frank had always treated Blaine like one of his own and Blaine had always looked up to him. It had been very hard on him.
Kurt sighs as he pours a glass of orange juice before taking a sip. Maybe Blaine will come out today he thinks to himself as he grabs a letter that's addressed to Blaine.
"Blaine" Kurt says as he slips into the bedroom waking him.
"Hey" A sleepy Blaine replies. He tries to bring up a smile but it's hard.
"I have a letter for you."
"Oh"
Kurt passes the envelope to Blaine who inspects the handwriting. "That's Frank's writing!" Blaine announces as he jumps from the bed almost knocking Kurt over. He begins to carefully open the envelope, his hands shaking as he tries not to tear it apart. He finally pulls out the letter without damaging it. Blaine has to stop for a second, his emotions almost getting too much for him to continue.
"Do you want me to read it?" Kurt offers as he studies Blaine's reaction. Blaine nods as he sits himself down, his legs to much like jelly to handle what is about to be read to him. He passes the letter over to Kurt who reads the first line in his head.
"Blaine..." Kurt looks up from the paper when he hears Blaine trying to hide his sobs.
"I don't really know how to write letters so here goes. So you might be wondering why I'm writing this to you and not speaking to you about it in person and believe me I want to but I don't think I could handle the reaction so I think it will be easier on paper." Kurt hears Blaine's sobs. He looks up to see him hugging onto a blanket for comfort.
"I've known you for almost 10 years now and what a 10 years it's been. When we meet the cafe had been open for about a month and I remember thinking 'this place is missing something' and it was, the day I found you and offered you the job I knew you were the missing piece to this place. You are the cafe Blaine.
Now before I tell you this news please go and get Kurt. Do it for me Blaine, you both need each other." Kurt is interrupted by a hand which holds on to his.
"I have no other way of saying this, and I wish it was different but I'm dying. I've known for quite some time now and as much as I want to tell you in person I just don't have the heart. It might be selfish of me but I can't bear to see your reaction. You are like a son to me; in fact I class you as my own.
Please don't cry for me, I've had a happy and long life and I wouldn't change anything but I do have one gift for you the cafe..."
"The cafe?!"
"Do with it what you want, if you want to sell it then do so but please have the best life possible and remember me. You are Kurt are amazing, don't let him slip away.
Frank"
"He left it to me?" Blaine chokes as the news begins to finally hit him. "He left me the cafe." He pulls Kurt down on to the bed next to him. "But...but why?"
Kurt didn't know what to say. He hadn't known Frank as long but he knew what they both meant to each other. He was like a father to Blaine, more than his own biological father. Kurt pulls him into a hug and just sits like this as he tries comfort him, whispering about how much he loved him and he would always be there.
"He knew he was dying." Blaine coughs as he looks up to Kurt, his eyes sparkling from the tears in his eyes. "I could have helped him...I could have...why didn't he tell me Kurt?"
"I guess he didn't want you to worry about him." Blaine nods as he grips Kurt's cardigan.
"I suppose but I didn't get to say goodbye." Blaine cries.

Blaine joins Kurt in the kitchen, his changed from his pyjamas he'd been living in during his stay in the bedroom and now was dressed up in a smart suit that clearly didn't fit him like it used to.
"Blaine?" Kurt asks as he pours a cup of coffee into a mug for him. "That suit, it barley fits you"
"I know I just needed to wear it one last time." He tries to pull the sleeves down his arm but they spring back up. He sighs to himself as he takes off the jacket. The trousers just meet his ankles but Blaine doesn't mind. "He brought me this suit not long after I started working for him. I still can't believe he took a chance on me, I was just this messed up kid."
Kurt walks forward and hands him the coffee. Blaine takes a mouthful before he continues.
"I was so messed up back then." Blaine reflects. "I'd just moved to New York, I was homeless and..."
"You were homeless?" Kurt replies stunned. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, there was still so much they didn't know about each other's past and it broke his heart.
Blaine nods before he goes to the couch and sits himself down with Kurt following. Blaine takes Kurt's hand in his own.
"When I first moved here I didn't know anyone, Kurt. I didn't have anyone I could turn to. I mean I spoke to Coop on the phone and he had a few friends here who let me couch surf for a few nights but it didn't feel right. So I slept on a bench in Central Park for a few weeks and then one day I was busking and Frank was there and well the rest is history."
"Oh Blaine" Kurt snuggles into Blaine not wanting to ever let him go, he feels responsible. "You...you could have, you knew..." But he stops himself, he can't say it.
"Kurt you would have turned me away. You didn't want to know me."
"I know"
"Its history, what happened happened we have each other now and that's all that matters."
"I just wish I could have done something. If I'd known..."
"Please don't blame yourself." Blaine kisses his forehead. "Never blame yourself."

They both visit the cafe that morning after breakfast. Blaine had wanted to catch up with the staff that had been working there and found out that Frank had left a small fortune to the business which meant the staff didn't have to worry for wages for the next few years.
It had been nice for them to visit the cafe even if it did hold a lot of memoires for Blaine but it just felt right for him to be there.
Kurt returns to his office later that day with Blaine in tow.
"Your back!" Isabella shouts down the corridor to them as they exit the elevator.
"Hey." They both reply in unison.
"It's so good to see you again Blaine." Isabelle says as she hugs them both.
"You too... actually I don't think I've had a chance to thank you for the party and for what you did for me that night..."
"It's okay you don't have to, how are you now?" Isabelle asks a little unsure how to talk about the subject.
"I'm doing better. Frank wouldn't have wanted me to be sad for too long he would have wanted me to get back out there in the world which is what I intend to do."
"Good. Oh that reminds me I had a phone call from one of the producers at the party they want to have a meeting with you?"
"A meeting?" Blaine replies as he grips Kurt's hands.
"Indeed they do. I can get him back on the phone if you like and set one up as soon as you're ready."
Blaine looks at Kurt for some kind of approve but he knows he already has it.
"Yes ma'am"

Kurt smiles to himself when he can hear laughter coming from Isabelle's office. It's the first time in a while his heard Blaine's laugh.
He brings out his phone and finds a text from Artie. He'd been dreading this text since he sent one to Artie earlier that day. Attached to it was Rachel's number, his hands shaking as he selected it before it started to ring out. Today was the day he was going to try and reconnect with his old friend.
"Hi...umm Rachel Berry?...This is Kurt...Kurt Hummel."
3 Years later
The last few years had been a whirlwind for both of them. Blaine had been managing the cafe since it became his and made it into a huge success especially now he was getting more people wanting to perform there and after a few interviews he had with a few record producers he was now part of a writing team writing for some of the biggest names in the industry. Blaine had thought about performing more but he found he enjoyed the behind the scenes work and wasn't ready just yet to step out in the spot light. He was happy with his life now and was excited to see where it would take him next and if he stayed writing songs he would be happy with that.
While Blaine was busy with his duties Kurt had been promoted from writing for Vogue online to the actual magazine. Kurt also found a small musical theatre company not far from their apartment, after a few a few workshops and some auditions he was now ready to take the lead in their latest production of West Side Story.
Kurt hadn't felt so nervous in his life. Tonight was the night; he was going to propose to Blaine Anderson. Everything was set up. It was Blaine's 31st Birthday and they were having a private party at what was now Blaine's cafe. He his heart was beating so fast it felt like it was about to leave his body.
"Breath Kurt" He whispers to himself. He takes a few breaths before he pulls Blaine away from a group of friends.
"Hey can I talk to you for a second?" Kurt asks as Blaine nods and kisses his cheek.
"Sure, actually I want to..."He stops as Kurt looks at him. "Come on." Blaine drags him off to his office out the back.
As much as Kurt loves the idea of a big glamorous public proposal it just didn't feel right. He wanted it to be a moment just for them.
"You okay?" Blaine asks as he pulls Kurt down on the sofa.
"Yes, yes, I was just thinking...we met, no I first saw you here in this building."
"I know." Blaine laughs, he can tell his nervous.
"I was wondering..." Kurt pulls Blaine back up and smiles at him
Blaine smirks to Kurt as they both reach into their own pockets.
"Will you marry me?" they both blurt out in unison. They look at each other shocked as they both pull out a ring box from their jacket pockets.
"Yes" Kurt replies, his hands shaking as Blaine starts to cry.
"Yes" Blaine feels his heart leap as they both exchange the rings they got each other.
"I love you so much."
