Blaine was absolutely exhausted after practice. Coach Beiste had worked them so hard that he had almost (almost) forgotten about Kurt's text, sitting unanswered on the phone in his bag. Unfortunately, all practices end, and before he knew it, Blaine was hopping out of Mike's truck and heading towards his front door. He breezed through the kitchen on his way up to his bedroom, grabbing a granola bar and a pre-mixed protein drink because he was starving. He closed the door behind him and sank down on his bed gratefully. After his food was gone, Blaine started to fidget. He tried pulling out his history reading assignment, then put on some music and turned it off again. Finally, he dug his phone out of his backpack, pulled up Kurt's text, and stared at it hopelessly.
He's going to think I'm such a creep. He's going to block my number. But I can't tell him, Blaine thought, staring at Kurt's confounding question.
"Screw it," he whispered finally.
"I wish I could tell you, but for now, I hope it's enough if I just say I'm someone who admires you deeply," Blaine typed in, hitting send before he could chicken out.

Days passed. Kurt had been hesitant at first to continue corresponding with someone he didn't know, but the mystery texter was charming, and he found himself drawn in despite his misgivings. Mercedes was delighted, and had started calling Kurt's admirer "The Mysterious Mr. X." Their texts had progressed from shy to downright flirty, and Kurt could almost feel himself sinking in too deep. The problem was, he didn't know how to get back on solid ground, and he kind of didn't want to. Aside from the admittedly hot flirting, Kurt had started to open up to his mystery admirer, and to his surprise, "Mr. X" offered him more support than almost anyone had. Kurt knew his Dad always had his back 100%, but he didn't always completely understand the way X (as Kurt had mentally started calling him) did. Sitting in the library one Wednesday, absorbed in his texting conversation, Kurt opened up about the internal struggle he was having between fashion and Broadway. Instead of scoffing, X asked why he thought he couldn't have both. Kurt admitted that he felt New York was the place to go for either option, and X quickly responded that he had always dreamed of moving to the Big Apple. After a pause, he added that his father would never let him move there.
"Why not? Is he one of those conspiracy theorists who believe that biochemical war is coming and NYC will be the first to go?" Kurt teased.
After a moment, his phone buzzed.
"Cute :) But no, I think he knows that I'd be too tempted by the arts scene there & I'd abandon the corporate world to become a busker on a street corner somewhere..."
Kurt couldn't believe he didn't know X was a musician! His mind quickly ran through the members of the jazz band... but none seemed like likely candidates for X. Perhaps the marching band then? He was 99% sure it couldn't be someone in Glee.
Quickly he typed, "Wait, I didn't know you are into music! That's amazing! Do you ever perform?"
There was a long pause, and then just as Kurt was about to return to actually studying, his phone buzzed.
"I'm not really any good. I just... do it for me, you know?"
Kurt's hopes of identifying X shrank, but he replied, "I get it. I bet you're better than you think though
