Finn and Rachel were staked out on the roof of the building three away from where Blaine was. They were all in their costumes; Blaine as a Robin, Finn as Treble Cleff, and Rachel as the Golden Girl. Her superhero was kind of last minute desicison, since they couldn't think of anything else.
"Is he here? Can you see anything?" Mercedes's voice came through the phone. Rachel had filled her in on their plan, which she was now experiencing from the safety of her California home.
"No, not yet." Rachel whispered back. They were watching as Blaine waited on the roof of a store, Rachel remembered had been on of Kurt's favorite places to buy scarves. And after harassing the manager for a week, the store decided to have a massive scarf sale. It was big enough for them to close early tonight for setup. Kurt wouldn't miss it for the world, especially if he could have first pick.
Finn nudged Rachel and pointed to something on the ground, "that's him." He told her. It was a barely noticeable black figure, slowly slinking towards the store.
"We see him." She told Mercedes. "Is he really going to just walk in through the front?" He wasn't. The couple watched in awe as Catman began scaling up the building.
"How is he doing that?" Finn asked.
"I don't know, suction cups?" Rachel offered, clearly puzzled, her head twisting to the side. "Mercedes, Kurt is walking up the side of the building."
"What do you mean?" She asked through the phone.
"I mean he is walking on the side of a building! Kurt can walk up walls!"
Mercedes sighed, "it's gonna be hard to believe all of this until I see it one day."
Kurt was swiftly approaching the roof access door. He couldn't help but smile to himself. It was moments like this that saved him from drowning in regret. He was about to get some of the finest scarves in the city for free, plus a few for Santana. He was about to step into the store, already picking the lock, when he heard a voice behind him.
"Hey, Catman." Damn. Kurt turned to find Robin standing behind him in his stupid little pose. He puts his hands on his hips and tries to puff out his chest and look superior, with his little smirk. If the situation was different, Kurt would find it adorable. But, he doesn't now, he can't. He has to remember what Santana said.
"Robin, don't you have something better to do than protect a bunch of scarves?" Kurt asked, irritated at the hitch in his plan.
"I'm actually not here for the scarves." Robin said, "I have a proposition."
Kurt was intrigued, "what is it?" He knows he shouldn't have listened, he knows he should've forged on towards the scarves and just fought it out with Robin. But, curiosity killed the cat.
"Friday night at eight, we can get dinner. In costume of course."
Kurt laughed, was he serious? Going on a date? They're rivals, they can't. "Absolutely not. I don't date my enemies."
"I never said it was a date." Robin defended.
"Dinner is always a date."
"Okay, then we can just get drinks. I know a place on 38th street, that's pretty nice." He offered.
Kurt considered this, what's the harm? But, what's the gain? "What's in it for me?" He asked.
Robin sighed, "everyone always says 'keep your friends close, but your enemies closer', that's how you get what you want. And I'm sure you want many things."
"I do..." Kurt mulled over the thought. "But don't you want something, too? Wouldn't I just be helping the enemy?"
"Helping me is keeping me closer, so it's also helping you." Robin brought up an interesting point. "And besides, all I really want right now is for you to just say yes."
"Is this some trap? Are just gonna lead me into some superhero hang out and all gang up on me? Because it won't work."
"No, this is a normal bar for pedestrians and tourists." Robin said, hands up to prove he's innocent.
"Ugh, tourists." Kurt scoffed, they're the only downside to living in New York. "I'll think about it." He said, before turning to go down the stairwell and into scarf heaven.
He felt a lasso get thrown around him, and turned to see Robin pulling him away from the door. "We're not that close." He smirked.
"A lasso? Really?" Kurt asked, "are you a cowboy now?" Robin smiled at him and Kurt just rolled his eyes, trying his damnedest not to smile.
