"Guys?" Blaine called into his mic. "Is everything okay?" He'd heard Jeff call toothpaste and Nick run in. He knew they were together, or used to be together. And he knew that Jeff had pulled a false alarm, but after that everything went silent. And Blaine was not liking that one bit. It was time to alter the plan.
The small boy sat in front of their drawing board. They'd originally planned for Jeff and Nick to get in, confirm the location, open a window for Blaine and get out. Once the sunset, Blaine would sneak into the window and find Kurt. He would go from there. Now, he has to find the window, if there is one and find Kurt and Nick and Jeff. It would be a lot for one night, and for one sidekick. Many times he'd considered going to Sam and admitting that he'd screwed up. But, Blaine wasn't one to admit failure. He could do this, without help.
Once it was dark and Blaine had everything secure, he crept out to go to the apartment. He caught a taxi a block away from his apartment, as to not alert Sam. Then he had it drop him two blocks away from his destination, for similar reason. It was a cool dark walk, with little light, to the dank building. It was far from the nice parts of town. Graffiti decorate the sides of struggling local business. Cats hissed from atop garbage cans. Chalk hopscotch littered the sidewalk, contrasting with the barred windows on every other house. However, Blaine was in luck.
After scouring around the building, he saw a small window on the second floor. It was open, a small curtain blowing out of it, bar free. Blaine pointed his gravling hook at it, shooting to the sky. Once it was hooked on the window sill, he gave it a securing tug and began to scale up the wall.
Couldn't they find a bigger window? Blaine thought to himself, shimmying through the tiny window he'd been presented with. He stumbled out of it and landed with a thud on cool linoleum. An old shower curtain was hung and half empty shampoo bottles had fallen around him. He was in a shower. Why on earth did Jeff pick a shower?
Blaine managed to stand, slipping a little on some spilled soap. Pushing back the curtain revealed a small counter, a toilet in the corner and a mirror with a rusting frame. The counter was cluttered with an array of hair and skin products. And toothpaste smeared in Jeff-like tracks. Blaine looked at himself in the mirror. Taking advantage of a convenient jar of gel on the counter, Blaine touched up his hair. He'd gotten a few fly aways after he crash landed in a tub. Then, he reached into the back pocket of his candy colored ankle jeans for the small piece of leather. Robin's mask. He held it up, debating wether or not to put it on. He'd come so far without it and Nick did tell him to go without the mask. But, it made him feel safe. When he wore the mask, he was actually a superhero- technically a sidekick- and he was beginning to depend on that security. But, Nick was right. He can't hide behind his mask forever. He folded it back up, putting back into his pocket.
Taking a deep breathe, Blaine creaked the door open. He was ready for this. So ready that he wanted his dramatic, hollywood-esque moment of sneaking around on a night mission. Hollywood has given Blaine Anderson unrealistic expectations of being a sidekick. Right as he was going to slip out of the bathroom, a voice called, "I know you're there." And Blaine was petrified, frozen in place.
Kurt had been lying awake in bed, starring at the two boxes that contained all of his belongings from his room. He didn't want to pack them up, he didn't want to leave. And happened so suddenly, too, with no explanation. He knew he would need his energy for the move tomorrow morning, so he rolled over in his bed and tried to get some sleep.that's when he heard the loud thump coming from somewhere in the apartment. Frantic, Kurt climbed out of bed, instinctively choosing flight over fight. He may be Catman on the streets, but in flannel pajama pants, he is still Kurt Hummel. But, he found himself with nowhere to run and a baseball bat. It was time to fight.
Kurt cracked open his bedroom door, the sound of his heart pounding in his ears, and peaked his head out. The coast was clear, so he decided to further investigate. Tiptoeing down the hall, he began whispering stupid stuff to comfort himself.
"I am armed and I will use it." Past Santana's room. If anyone's in there, she can defend herself, right?
"I'm not afraid of you." In front of the furnace, which he checked behind.
"I'll call the cops." Next to the linen closet, after he scoped it out.
"I know you're there." Two steps from the bathroom. He pulled the door open, snd nearly swung at the figure standing there. But, he hesitated, gripping his bat tighter when he recognized Robin.
"Hi Kurt." And the bat was lowered to his side, when he realized it was Blaine. From the sock-less oxfords to the doe eyes and hair gel.
"Blaine." Kurt breathed. Blaine just shook his head and pulled Kurt into a hug. His arms were wrapped firmly around Kurt's shoulders, as if he planned to never let go, which was probably the case. "Blaine. I'm back, Blaine." And Kurt just kept saying his name as if his tongue missed it, until Blaine shhh'd him.
"I know, Kurt." He mumbled into the taller man's neck. "You're back."
