It had been a week. A week of sleepless nights, tired days, and frustrated moments.
Blaine is so glad he has the Glee club. Everybody banded together more, they looked out for each other. Even Kitty and Marley had stopped their fued (at least on Kitty's part) and actually looked happy to hang out with each other. Mr. Shue had actually called Finn and had a grown up conversation with him, sorting out some of their differences and planning to talk through the rest when they could meet.
They got really busy after a while, sorting through sheaves of paper and music notes to select songs that would showcase the vocal range of their members. Final exams were soon approaching and Blaine tried to concentrate on the words swimming in front of his eyes. He couldn't afford to botch this up. More than anything, he couldn't afford to botch up the NYADA audition he was lined up for in a couple of days.
That evening, he sat in his room with his blanket over his legs, his fingers tracing the edge of his phone as he tried to fight his urge to call Kurt. What would he say? Before he could change his mind, he punched in the numbers, fingers trembling a little as he raised the phone to his ears, hearing the shrill ringing of the bell.
He jumped a little when Kurt actually answered, recovering quickly. "Hi, Kurt," he murmured pathetically. "I... I just wanted to let you know that I have my audition for NYADA on Friday. I also wanted to check if... you're still okay with that. With me going to NYADA. I mean."
He sighed in relief as Kurt answered in the affirmative, reassuring him that he definitely wanted him in New York and at NYADA. Blaine relaxed into his pillow, asking a few questions and letting Kurt talk, a familiar and much-loved drone that helped him pull himself out of his thoughts and into a safer world for a time. Kurt never questioned the tense questions, the barely spoken words and the heavy silences. He just washed over them, soothing, kind and seeming to know exactly what Blaine needed.
Blaine fell asleep to the sound of Kurt's voice, curled up on the bed, his eyes falling shut as he let himself drift. Kurt was safe.
Except he was not. There he was, looking at him again with lifeless eyes, the steady pool of crimson growing bigger under him on the floor.
