The cool chill of a metal instrument against his chest startled Kurt out of his dreamless slumber. The steady hum of a nearby machine penetrated his senses and soon became the catalyst of a pounding headache. His brow furrowed before he tentatively attempts to open his eyes. He found himself surrounded by blindingly bright lights, and eerily familiar machines. It took a him a second or two to realize that he had been in this place before. The hospital; a place that he associated with negative memories, as most people probably do. The hospital harbored a large of memories that Kurt had hoped would remain in the forgotten archives of his mind, but when the tear stained faces of Burt and Carole suddenly came into his line of view, he realized he wouldn't be able to suppress those dreadful memories anymore.

"Morning sweetheart. How are you feeling?" Carole asked softly while running her fingers delicately through Kurt's thick hair.

"M-morning?" Kurt managed to choke out, surprised by the burning sensation in his throat.

Burt shuffled awkwardly to hand Kurt a glass of ice water, and gestured for Carole to update Kurt on the events that led to his hospitalization.

"Yes, well," Carole waited for Kurt to hand the glass back to Burt before continuing, "At school yesterday, you seemed to have been in an…accident, I guess we can call it."

"You passed out in one of the hallways from overexertion," Burt cut in.

"I-I did?"

Kurt could faintly remember the pass day's events. Most of what happened minutes before the world had gone black was a blur, but he managed to scrounge up the memory of Blaine's liquor-laced breath against his ear, warning him to run as fast as he could. He then remembered running down a series of hallways, the world spinning and his heart pounding in his ears. Blackness, he definitely remembered the blackness.

"It's a good thing your friend Blaine managed to find you in time, or else…who knows what could've happened." Carole stepped away from Kurt's bedside to sniffle into her handkerchief.

"Wait… Blaine…helped me?" Kurt found that the idea of Blaine Anderson saving him from possible heart failure, and even death, gave him more of a headache then the irritating hum of the annoying machines around him.

"Don't worry honey, it's okay if you don't remember, Blaine filled us in on everything, just relax your mind, you've had a very tough twenty four hours."

Burt looked over at Carole, nodding his head towards the hallway and she immediately took the hint and left the father and son by claiming that she needed to go call Finn to make sure he hadn't burnt down the house. As soon as the door closed behind Carole Burt slid a chair up to Kurt's bedside. He took Kurt's hand, squeezing it gently as he took a seat next to him.

"Kurt, do you remember anything at all from what happened before you passed out?"

"Barely…" Kurt chose to keep Blaine's involvement in his accident to himself, as he was still curious as to how Blaine was involved in saving him.

"Are you absolutely positive? You don't remember talking to anyone, or seeing anyone suspicious around school?" Burt's grip on Kurt's hand tightened slightly.

"I'm sure… Why? Was I supposed to remember something?"

Burt released Kurt's hand to remove the worn baseball cap he wore to cover his balding head and rubbed his scalp before looking back at his son solemnly.

"Blaine filled us in on what happened. It was a boy from the football team that did this to you. He threatened you…and you ran. Dammit Kurt, I told you not to overexert yourself! Anyway, he ran away when he found you passed out in the hallway, and Blaine found you when he was on his way to his locker. You really need to thank him, if he hadn't found you when he did, your heart could've stopped. I don't mean to make you panic, Kurt, but you need to be more careful. Don't get yourself into anymore situations like this. Protect yourself, or better yet, tell Finn when someone threatens you, because we can't have anymore accidents like this. You hear me?"

Kurt had droned out his father's speech immediately after he explained the story of how Kurt had ended up in the hospital. It was a lie. A completely fictionalized account concocted to make Blaine Anderson look like the hero, and Kurt like the ill damsel in distress. As if he needed more attention drawn to him. Kurt felt his face burn in anger as he clenched his fists, and began to think of how he would explain to his father that Blaine had been the cause of Kurt's trip to the hospital.

"Dad-"

"Great kid, that Blaine boy. He wouldn't leave your side yesterday…followed me and Carole around like a lost puppy. How did you meet him? Finn doesn't seem to fond of him…"

Burt continued to ramble while Kurt processed this new piece of information. Blaine had waited at Kurt's bedside. Kurt didn't think someone like him was even capable of committing such an act of kindness and concern. He'd slushied Kurt, threatened to beat him to a pulp, and made him run for his life through the intimidating halls of McKinley high school, yet he stayed by his side, and even spoke to his family. Something was definitely wrong with that picture, he thought to himself.

A gentle knock at the door stopped Burt in the midst of his soliloquy, and he stood up to open the door. Carole stepped in with a sheepish smile on her face.

"I probably should've waited a few minutes to let him come in, but I thought Kurt's biggest fan would like to make sure he's safe," Carole leaned in closer to Kurt to half-whisper, "I don't think he believed me when I told him that you were awake, so he wants to see for his own."

Carole winked at Kurt before tugging Burt out of the room by the arm, and pushing a bumbling Blaine Anderson in the room. The door slammed shut behind him, leaving the two alone, with Carole probably pressed up against the door from the other side, attempting to listen in.

"So… You're feeling better?"

Kurt pondered breaking his vow of silence, which he'd remembered just in time, to tell Blaine off for not only landing him in the hospital, but lying about being the hero of the humiliating accident, but decided against it, thinking that the continued silent treatment was more intimidating. Thus, he gave Blaine a weak nod in response.

"I'm guessing your parents told you about…what happened…"

Kurt rolled his eyes and nodded his head in disproval.

"I can't explain how sorry I am for what happened, a-and about lying, b-but I can explain-"

Kurt gave him the hand. Blaine rolled his eyes.

"Ugh, could you be any more of a fruit?"

While Blaine was expressing his distaste in Kurt's attitude, Kurt had managed to grab hold of the notepad and pencil that had been resting on the table beside his bed. He turned to a clean page, scribbled a message, and slid it over to Blaine.

"I know you are, but what I am."

Immature comeback? I think not, Kurt thought to himself. Blaine's cheeks flushed a light red as he crumpled up the note and threw it into the wastebasket behind him.

"Look, I'm not here to play games with you. I don't care what kind of freak disease you have that made you pass out like that, or why you passed out. I'm just here to tell you that if you dare tell anyone what really happened, I will make sure that you'll live to regret it…and… I…." Blaine's fists clenched tightly as he turned his gaze to his scuffed shoes, "My parents want to meet the boy that I supposedly "saved from imminent death"… They asked me to ask you if… You'd like to have dinner with us," Blaine spat out through gritted death.

Kurt smirked at the interesting proposal and turned to write his reply.

"Don't think this is some kind of date, Hummel. This isn't some fairytale tea party, or whatever shit you're used to. Just meet my parents, eat dinner, and leave. That's it."

Kurt rolled his eyes at Blaine's ignorance before turning back to his notepad. He finished his short, but effective reply, and handed it to Blaine.

"No."

With that, Kurt gave Blaine a wide, fake smile, and Blaine stormed out of the room, face completely red and fists clenched so tightly he was sure his palms would bleed. Kurt didn't care.

End Notes: Ok, so I have some apologizing to do, heh. I am so, so, so sorry for taking this long to update! I've been so stressed with school, plus I've been working on my writing portfolio, so I was constantly writing other things, that I pretty much lost my enthusiasm for this story, but now that school's over, and my portfolio's done, I'm back! I can't guarantee regular weekly updates anymore, but I will definitely not be updating once a month anymore. Thank you to everyone who is still reading, you guys are amazing! :D
