Well, I hope you guys enjoyed it! It might add in the next maybe two or three chapters so hang in there! Please leave reviews. I really appreciate you guys who have expressed how much you love this story, even though at times it might be a little incoherent. Let me know what you thought of this one!! Oh, and I know this is late, but happy valentines day!
"Huh?" says Kurt, because that was the only words he could manage. He was confused, of course. In all forms of confusion, but the boy had a straight and tense face which really only meant one thing- he was being serious. He takes a deep breath, his shoulders rising before they collapse.
"My real name is Blaine Anderson, but I changed it to Lance Jackson when I moved here because the old one was subjected to very disgusting references," tells the boy but Kurt wondered how on earth could anyone make fun of the name Blaine Anderson. It has a nice ring to it, almost like a verse to a very good song.
"Blaine Anderson," Kurt repeats to himself, allowing the words to slide off so naturally down this tongue and out of his mouth. He even tried to sing it in a melody, in which the boy laughs at the stupid attempt. "I think I prefer that name."
"You do?" ask the boy, a little doubtful of Kurts truth, eyes intently gold and boring into him but Kurt smiles and wraps his arms around the boys neck.
He knew of course that he couldnt determine the depth on the boys truth. Maybe it didnt seem like much to Kurt, but for the boy, it could possibly be torturous to remember a name that brought such dark memories, and for that, Kurt was glad that he at least got a little fragment of truth from the boy, even if it was hollow to Kurt. It still meant a great deal to him that the boy allowed himself to be vulnerable just the way Kurt allowed himself to be.
"Yes, I do. I think I might be calling you Blaine from now on," tells Kurt. The boy laughs and allows himself to fall onto Kurts shoulders, resting his nose into the crook of his neck. He wished this moment would stretch on forever, that their raw flesh could remain naked and flush in comfort with each other, but he knew they would have to part soon. It was sinking super late into the night, and his father should be arriving home soon. "Thank you- for tonight. I dont know what crazy sixth sense brought you over, but Im glad it did. This was- probably one of my best nights with you."
The boy sighs and lifts his head to meet Kurts eyes. He slides his fingers earnestly behind Kurts neck and drags him forward, pressing their foreheads together so that his sweet, intoxicating breath was smearing all over Kurts eyes. "I want you to know- that tonight was real. And hopefully, youll never forget it."
Kurt did not actually comprehend what the boy was saying, but in the heat and passion of the moment, he could have said anything at all and Kurt would still have thought it was the most romantic thing ever, especially when he said it with such a hoarse, growl of a voice. The gap between them is filled and Kurt allows himself to be consumed again by one of the boys legendary kisses. The world was an insignificant ball of aqua and land every time their lips met.
"I wish you didnt have to go," whispers Kurt as their lips parted by a fraction, to catch their long needed breath, otherwise Kurt would have allowed the boys lips to be sealed on his if he was his source of oxygen, though in truth, he sort of was- something that gave him life, that kept his head above water, something he needed to live.
"Me too," says the boy. "I hate to go back to reality."
The boy shuffles out of the bed, slipping out of the covers and rising to his feet. His back is glorious, even more so naked. Skin slightly tanned, muscles so pronounced and a bum that was so perky, Kurt fought the urge to bounce a quater off of it. He did not quite understand what the boy meant about going back to reality, but he reckon he was dreading something at home, or maybe he felt as lonely as Kurt felt sometimes, being alone in a home given he said how his parents were out of town. This boy wasnt a simple blurp, he was the entire 500 page book, and Kurt was only just getting started with the first few chapters.
As the boy steps out of the bathroom, his jeans now slipped on and hanging so loosely and so salaciously off his waist, Kurt wraps the covers around his own body and strides carefully to the boy, whom watches him with eyes riddled with curiosity. His face was drenched, and his hair was sticking to his forehead but he never looked better. "So, where are you applying for college?"
Instantly, the boys face drops a free-fall. Its as if Kurt had slapped him with some form of reality he had managed to forget, only to be so tortuously reminded of. His eyes swim with some form of discontent, face drained of any colour. He was as pale as a sheet of paper. He gulps, eyes not meeting Kurts. "I dont know if Im applying."
"You dont want to go to college?" ask Kurt. "I mean, thats nothing to be embarrassed about. Lots of famous people didnt go to college either- Ellen DeGeneres, for one. You could get into anything you wanted though, because youre ridiculously smart."
"I just- dont think college is necessarily my place," says the boy, eyes still wandering elsewhere except at Kurt.
"And thats fine. Like you said, right? Were the creators of our own lives, whatever consequence might come later, well deal with it anyway," tells Kurt, recalling the boys wise words. He smiles and leans forward to catch Kurts lips with his own. Kurt couldnt help but to trace the boys abdominal muscles, and wondered to himself how he managed to land somebody so ungodly.
Though he was brought up to know only one route to success- ace high school, go to college and make something of himself, but in this era, he knew there were different paths to follow. He wouldnt pressure the boy into thinking he needed to go to college to make something of himself, but Kurt wondered- how was their future together going to be like? He wanted to bring that up, but he was afraid it was too soon for the world shattering reality- they would soon have to part ways, whether with hopes to keep it going, or an heart aching separation. It was inevitable, so for now, Kurt wanted to savour and embrace every moment he had with the boy despite having their imminent fate dangling over their heads.
"Yeah," says the boy. He wraps an arm around Kurts waist and tugs him closer, again crashing their lips together. At this rate, Kurt knew his lips were swollen red and would have to also deal with the ache in his bum, but that was a small price to pay for bliss. "I want you to remember something. Know that, whatever the future might hold, know that my feelings for you are real. No matter what, okay?"
"Okay," says Kurt, assuming that the boy was just as worried for their future together, but much like Kurt, he did not want to voice out what was blunt. They would wait to discuss this, because for now, they still had prom to look forward to- a night no doubt would be of ultimate felicity.
------------
Blaine has no words to describe how the night had unravelled so quickly. He had not the slightest comprehension why he allowed his feelings to take charge of his actions, and though he wants to regret what he did- he didnt, because it was true. He sees it now- he was attached, to the subject. A rule he swore by, only to ridicule it by sleeping with the boy. It was not infatuation, it wasnt just lust, it was a deep connection he felt with the young boy, so innocent, so pure unlike anything hes ever experience in his life, but the boy was a flame, and Blaine was the moth. He knew the danger that lurked, the risk, but he went anyway.
He had decided to tell the boy his real name, not because it was a fair trade for what the boy told him about his true passions, but because he felt comfortable to, and because when this entire mission comes to a close, and he would be extracted and will probably never see the boy again, he wanted the boy to know that it wasnt all a lie, that what they shared was genuine. Telling his name was a small piece of truth, and if it didnt count as much, he knew it counted to him because it was also a rule to keep discretion, to keep the false identity to protect oneself, but he wanted the boy to know all his edges.
He wasnt sure what was his card to play now except to find the objective, but the getting out part is proving to be a more difficult task that the mission in hand. As Blaine walks into the thresholds on the CIA headquarters, Carl rushes straight for him, obviously eager to know if anything was wrong. When Carl had picked up a New York number calling into the Hummels residence, a cold fear had course down Blaines spine. He pictured the worst possibilities, and in his instincts and his feelings for the boy, he burst out of the headquarters and sped straight for the boys house. They were still unsure who it was, or where exactly did it stem from, but there was no shadow of a doubt in Blaines mind who it was.
"What was the call about?" ask Carl, practically jumping on his toes obviously excited because this was as much action as this mission has given him. He was an adrenaline junkie, much like Blaine himself.
"The boy assured it was nothing. Have we got any leads on where it came from exactly?" ask Blaine as he strides forward and plants himself into one of the computer chairs available, catching his own breath after everything that unexpectedly happened tonight.
"None yet. If it really was Lucius, that would mean he has more or less figured out where the discovery might be. Extra protection might be needed," tells Carl in which Blaine couldnt agree more. If Lucius had figured out where the discovery was, it wouldnt take long before he planned an attack on the family. He swore he wouldnt let anything happen to Kurt. Aside from his duties, he couldnt bear to live with himself if anything happened to the boy because he was too- sidetracked to focus on his main objective. "Dont you find it odd, though?" ask Carl.
"Whats odd?" inquisitions Blaine, staring at the man expectantly.
"If he knew he was being tracked, youd think he would choose his steps carefully. Calling through a public, traceable line to the Hummels house does not seem very discreet to me," points out Carl. Indeed, it was a troubling speculation. In all his years, he knew that if someone did not want their tracks to be followed, theyd cover it up by any means necessary. Maybe Lucius wasnt as intelligent as they had assumed.
"Maybe he thought he could get away with it," shrugs Blaine, though as those words slips in between his lips, he knew that nobody, who was smart enough to clear out his apartment before the CIA came to purge him would be smart enough to know it wasnt as easy to get away with something so-- amateurish.
"We have to keep vigilant, dont expect the obvious. Youre gonna need to spend more time with the boy, Ill make sure that agent Raul and agent Mason keeps a watchful eye on the father. If hes found the Hummels residence, hell be planning to make a trip here soon so I suggest to bombard the airport and train stations with as many eyes as possible," suggest Carl. He is fired up, eyes practically in flames. If there was one thing Carl couldnt live without besides his computer, its the rush his job gives him.
It was a conflicting feeling of the notion to having to spend more time with the boy. In truths, he wouldnt mind spending every waking moment a had with the boy because being with him just made everything in Blaines life feel so normal, as if he wasnt in a profession of killings and conspiracies even though its main goal ultimately was to protect the people of America. Blaine knew that this couldnt go on longer. The boy would soon find out, and he dreads that part but he knew now that everything he said and did with the boy was so pretend. He knew he was attached to the subject, now it was just the matter if pretending to the CIA that he wasnt- to not share the same fate is Michael Donovan.
"Are you alright?" questions Carl, eyes swim with concern and trying to gauge what was inside Blaines thoughts. "You look rather pale."
"Im fine," assures Blaine, though his words were hollow. "Ill spend more time with the boy, find the objective as soon as I can. You make sure to have security detail on Burt, and have eyes at the airports. Make sure this guy doesnt get anywhere near the Hummels."
Carl nods in agreement before he continues with whatever hes always doing on the computer as Blaine retreats to the bed room. He really was he only one in this entire team who made use for the bed. Everyone else is either too hyped from coffee or too busy to get some shut eye but Blaine was different. He needed sleep to function the next day, but that in no way dampens his how good he is at his job. For right now, however, no matter how hard he tries to fall asleep, his eyelids just would not shutter. His thoughts goes back to the things that happened in Kurts bedroom earlier tonight.
When the boy muttered those three words, it consumed him. He knew his next actions were practically decreed to be execution-worthy, but at that moment he could care less about the rules of the CIA. It wasnt just his carnal hunger that consumed him. It was more than that. It was the desperation to be intimate with someone he found a connection with, a connection so raw and new for Blaine that he couldnt restrict himself from taking the boy, claiming him as his own. In his life, he lived off one-night-stands to satisfy his urge because frankly he had not the time, nor the commitment to be in an established relationship, but with the boy- it was more than just something casual, something breezy. It was more profound then that, and Blaine wondered if he never did join the CIA, would he have met somebody as amazing as Kurt? It was as if the Universe brought them together, only to put the biggest obstacle to keep them from being with each other.
He had wanted to say those very words back, but he knew he couldnt. Not with their very bleak future together. He knew what he felt for the boy was more than just the relationship of an operative and a subject, but Blaine knew how profound those words are, despite how its lost its sentimentality through the years of this ignorant universe, he was old fashioned. He believe that when you say the words I love you, it should count for something than saying it just because. However, he also knew that saying those words would be a declaration to the boy, and when the boy finds out about all of this, the mission, his profession, when everything unravels, nothing will be true in his eyes and Blaine did not want that. If he ever said those words, to anyone at all, he wanted the person to know that it was an all rounded truth. If he could, he would take back sleeping with the boy, but moments can consume you before they spit you are, leaving you chewed and messed up.
The fact that he was the boys first-- was even more punishing inside. How the boy would despise him. He would feel betrayed, used even, repulse by Blaine and his ways, but he needed the boy to know that its was not pretend any more. He did care for the boy, more than he has cared for anyone, and in these last few weeks, he knew he had three objectives to complete before the director calls the shots and they would be extracted- Get the discovery, ensure the boys safety, convinced the boy that the kiss, their intimacy, how he felt for the boy was real. CIA would never agree to agents having intimate relationships with anyone, because to be an operative you must not have strings tethered to you, but before he left- he would convince the boy that everything they did and everything he said was from the deepest core of his heart.
But for now, in the seclusion and solitude of this bedroom, he had another mission on his hands. This one was personal, and he would not anyone else, not even the Carl. From the back pocket of his jeans, he pulls out a few ripped pages of a sketchbook and stares at the intricate, meticulous illustrations of fashion. The boy clearly had a talent that he was so afraid to pursue- for uncertainty? For the greater good of his father? None of which took his best interest into account, but Blaine did have his best interest at heart. He knew the boy would excel, and in this way, even if the boy despised him in the later future, he knew that somehow, he did something for the boy before he left. Something that might alter his life, put him in a path that he loves, doing something where he thrives, even if he never knew who did it for him.
--------------
"Kurt! There you are!" exclaims Tina as he comes pouncing like a hyena towards Kurt in the hallway. She is dressed in a white blouse with a black, tight fitted best that accentuates her curves. Her black ballerina skirt makes her look shorter and she has black leather boots underneath to complete the look. Kurt fights the urge to tell the girl how she needed a seriously make-over. Black does make you skinny, but its not magic. "I have the perfect accessories to go with my dress but I havent gotten them yet. Will you go with me after school? I need your approval. Cute pants by the way."
"Relax, Tina. You sound like youre on a frosting rush or something," says Kurt. The girl laughs as she breathes heavily. Clearly she didnt have lungs of Whitney Houston. "Yes, Ill go with you but only if you go with me to pick up my own prom outfit," smirks Kurt.
The words just felt so odd to say. Never in his life did he thought he would ever go shop for a prom outfit, mostly because he never had a reason to, but now he did and just the notion felt so joyous. Maybe now he understood all the hype about prom. Dancing, music, food and a hot date- how did he ever thought it was stupid?
"I still cannot grasp the fact that Lance is gay. I always thought I ha awesome gaydar," says the girl, diminishing herself. "Marley is devastated."
To be frank, Kurt really couldnt care less about how sweet, blue eyed Marley felt. Sure, he did find the girl to be a great companion and she was funny in her own humor but this was Kurts time. He never once had a guy pursue him and ask him out for prom while poor little Marley already had a hockey star asking for her hand. Why should Kurt care if she was devastated or not when she was being a little greedy, but Kurt only manages an indifferent shrug of the shoulder.
"Why didnt you tell us he was playing for your team? I could have let her down easy," ask Tina, but it sounded less accusatory otherwise Kurt would have gone on a rampage and he really didnt want to do that to the first few girlfriends he had.
"Wasnt my secret to share- although, it was actually a secret. He just didnt like labelling himself with anything which I thought was pretty admirable," tells Kurt, in all honestly. People these days are obsessed with categories- gay, straight, bisexual, transgender. It was ridiculous. These labels were irrelevant because everyone was human after all- flesh and blood.
"Well, I for one am so happy for you. Thinking about it now, you guys do make a cute couple," teases Tina in which Kurt blushed so hard he wondered if his cheeks would burst into flames if it got any warmer. "So tell me, is he is a good kisser? Does he look good without a shirt on- or naked even, if youve..oh my god have you slept him him?"
"Dear God, Tina. Calm your jets. Jeez, Im sure they have a place somewhere for you at TMZ holdings or something," says Kurt. "I wont say anything..because I dont kiss an tell, or rather- screw and tell."
It felt good for some reason to gloat about this, to brag about his relationship because he never had one. This was why people bragged about their sex lives probably, to feel superior than others, to have others envy you because you were sexually active while they only depended on their right hands to get the load off. He didnt want to be big headed or annoying or anything, but he loved seeming so interesting in this Asian girls eyes.
"Oh my god!" shrieks Tina, practically bouncing off her toes. "How is he in bed? The only guy Ive ever slept with was this boy I met at Asians of America camp," tells Tina, much to Kurts displeasure.
"I told you, I wont say anything," winks Kurt, sending a silent message to the girl that yes, the boy looked incredible naked, and was mind blowing in bed. He could almost feel the ghost of the boys erection inside him as he talked about it.
"Youre so lucky," says Tina, drool practically falling out of the corner of her mouth like a faucet. "I mean really, what are the odds of the hottest guy in school being gay, and interested in you! Not saying youre not a catch or anything. If I was a gay man I would be on my knees to take you-"
"Jeez, Tina! What the hell are you even saying?" bellows Kurt, completely horrified by the girls choice of words but then again finding it completely laughable.
However, Kurt does agree with that conception. What were the odds, really? Usually the number one hottest guy in school is either straight and/or a jock. This was probably the first time in history that a gay guy took the spot, knocking even Puckerman down a notch. There was legitimately a list, posted on an exclusive yet elusive McKinley High website. The polls change every month, but strangely enough, Quinn Fabray is always number one on the Most Tappable Chick. Kurt reckons the picture she gave to Jacob Ben Israel had something to do with it, seeing as how he ran the website- which was weird considering if he ran the website, everybody should be worshipping at his altar since all the popular kids lived by it but nope. He was still at the bottom of the social chain, just a few spots beneath Kurt himself.
"Im sorry, but its true! To reference my favourite book as of late, the odds were clearly in your favor," laughs Tina, in which Kurt couldnt help blushing yet again. He just wasnt used to people complimenting him, and his life.
"What is on whose favour?" ask an all too familiar voice as Blaine appears from behind Kurt, popping his head over his shoulder. Yes, Blaine, because apparently only Kurt knew of his real name now and to be honest, he preferred it even more than Lance- but Lance would still be the name he loves first. He did, after all, screamed that name in bed last night.
"I was just saying how you guys make an adorable couple," tells Tina. Kurt couldnt gauge whether she was just naturally surprised by his presence, or that she really was uncomfortable now knowing Lance wasnt straight but clearly it did not change anything. Tina was still, fire and foremost, accepting of homosexuality. One of the few in this dump, actually. Otherwise she wouldnt even have been talking to Kurt.
"Awe, thanks Tina. I think so too," tells the boy. He keeps his eyes in on the girl as he says this, which only makes Kurt blush even more. Maybe she should more extra foundation next time seeing as how blushing was a part of him.
"I gotta go. See you after school, Kurt," bids Tina before she dances away with the wind, her puffy skirt not doing her any whatsoever justice. Blaine fills the place where Tina stood just seconds ago now, directly in Kurts line of sight. He dons something simple again today, which really is how he looks his best.
"Hi," says the boy, his lips so beautifully forming those words. Kurt wasnt sure how awkward this would be seeing as they slept together last night and distance does give people more time to think, but Kurt regretted nothing. He wondered if the boy felt the same.
"Hey," says Kurt, gulping a little. The boy just had such an affect on him, even now seeing as how he has seen the boy naked and all he could picture was immaculate abs, strong biceps, a perky behind and a very impressive-
"You look good today, then again you always do," says the boy. His eyes always had a charming gleam to them, but this time it just shined brighter- almost like diamonds. "Where are you going with Tina after school?"
"To the mall. She wants my help picking out accessories for prom," tells Kurt, hiding his own agenda for tagging along with the girl. He couldnt possibly tell this very mature for his age boy that he was going to shop for his own clothes too. That would seem very, very pathetic. He couldnt show the boy he was excited for prom, even though his mind was throwing a party for having been asked. He wanted to play the cool card for once. It at least gave him an edge.
"Well, youre the right person for it. Though Im sure you could just design her the perfect prom dress," tells the boy, in which Kurt sighs and blushes at the same time. A double combo, how cool.
"So I tell you one thing about myself and youre going to use that against me every time you get the chance now?" teases Blaine.
"Just stating what an amazing designer you are, and how you should share your talent with the rest of the world. Dont shoot me," smiles the boy. He does an adorable surrender, raising his hands in the air and pulling a small smirk in which Kurt has to fight the urge to clasp the boy around his neck and kiss him until they depended each other for oxygen, but he acted otherwise.
This was a school after all and Tina wasnt exactly a testament to the rest of the student body. They did not easily opened their arms to homosexuality, especially in cases where one stood so close in their vicinity. It wasnt as if Kurt was afraid of them. He has spent his whole life fighting off homophobes, but this was different. He had more to lose than just his divinity, his morals. This time, he had the risk of losing the boy to people who live to purge the school off homosexuality.
"Well, thanks," says Kurt. He always found himself smiling whenever the boy was close in proximity. He just radiated life- wide smile, sunset eyes. "So, how are you?"
"Im swell, now that Im talking to you," says the boy. "How about you?"
"A little sore here and there, but otherwise Im breathing," says Kurt, shooting a what he hopes to be a salacious, playful grin but he knew he couldnt pull off anything remotely alluring or sexy even if he slipped on a latex cat suit and held a whip. "No-- regrets, or anything?"
The boy frowns as if this was offensive, but Kurt had to ask. He knew the boy, being as kind and sweet as he was, would never say aloud if he really did have regrets, but maybe he could gauge it for himself from the boys facial expression. If he did have any regrets, he gave nothing away. It was hard for Kurt not to have doubts of their relationship. Through his life hes been told that he was ugly and an abomination to human kind. To have love and affection given to him after all of that was a little sceptical and overwhelming.
"I have no regrets, Kurt," concretely says the boy, eyes sharp and unblinking, lips not quavering but still. This was the expression he was hoping for, and he sighed in relieve when he got it. "Unless, you do?"
It was an absurd idea. What did he have to regret? Feeling desired, feeling sexy, feeling cared for, feeling- loved? He regretted nothing. Even late last night after the boy left, he could still feel every tantalizing touch of the boy still warm on his skin. He regretted nothing. If anything, he wanted more of this dosage- whatever it was, because it was better than substances. This dosage took him to a better place, putting him in a state of compulsion but at the same time feeling the Earth under his feet. The feeling was a world wind and he regretted just one thing- not having done it sooner.
"Youre crazy if you think I have regrets," says Kurt. Suddenly, all of his worries just disappears inside of him. He worried not of the risk of being public, of showing affection in front of these homophobes. A part of him wanted to fight them even, to cause a stir because he knew nothing could touch him. Nothing could touch him and Blaine because when the boy was beside him, he felt invincible. What he worried about was an abstract thought and in this moment, he seizes it- wanting the compulsion, the world wind feeling again.
He leans forward and presses his lips onto the boy, claiming what is rightfully his. This boy, right here, who has claimed him. Who has claimed each other. He cares not for the cynics, or the disapprovals because the only approval he cared for was his own. And right now, he bloody well approved of this kiss.
"I thought you scared of us being public?" ask the boy when they slowly part by an inch, his breath intoxicating and minty onto Kurts chaste lips.
"I was, until you assured I had nothing to be afraid when Im with you," says Kurt. He pulls a smile in which the boy returns. "Ill see you in class."
With one last trying attempt of a salacious smile, Kurt serpents around the boy and takes his first stride down the narrow hallway, not busy with quiet murmurs and fingers pointing at him. He had caused a stir, but he did not care. He looked forward, determined to reach to class but it wasnt fear that consumed him this time. Instead, it was a complete opposite of that. He strides now, consumed in the superiority he knew he had over these people, because as much as what he did was controversial, people were sure to add just how fucking ballsy that was.
-----------
Blaine watches as the crowded hallway turned from being only self-conscious, to busy muttering about just one thing- Kurts and his kiss.
He did not need super hearing abilities to know they were muttering about him. They were their eyes were glaring at him was enough give away to show their repulse. Was he angry with the boy? Absolutely not. They boy did what he did to prove a point more so ton himself than the student body. He wanted to prove himself that he had morning to fear, that he was allowed to show affection to the person he loved like every other heterosexual in this world had the right to, and for that, Blaine applauded his courage.
But in Blaines circumstance, however, it wasnt exactly glorifying. He already knew that Carl had special ways to find out the things the transpired in this school because like a father that he actual is, he needs to know every little facet of the truth and this one definitely would not land him a good stance with the man. It wasnt necessarily that he wasnt afraid of Carl, but his authority did overpower everyone elses, except their director of course. How this mission pans out, will solely be his responsibility because Blaine was assigned one thing while Carl was assigned to see through that it went smoothly, not hiccups. This one, was definitely a hiccup.
Blaine takes in the ripple effect of controversy their kiss has caused and realized this would be the exact process by which the Agency itself would handle situations like this. It starts with the crime itself, then it slowly makes its way around the office as idle gossip that everyone pretends to he indifferent about but ultimately, gossip was like crack to them, until finally it will reaches the highest form of authority there is, the director, but in this case, the principal. He would soon have to face the wrath or either, though he hopes its the latter. A school principal was someone he could at least handle, but director Johnson-- he wasnt so confident.
He studies their faces, each and every one of them riddled with disgust, hate, repugnance, judgement until he came across one particularly face that, unlike the rest, is riddled with something more horrifying than the others. He has wrinkles in his face, a receding hairline but but stocky enough to possibly tackle a rhino- dress in a janitors jumpsuit. A cold shudder runs down Blaines spine as he and agent Marcus says nothing but simply stare at each other, until the man gathers himself and shuffles away as if he did not just come across something absolutely forbidden in the profession they were both in.
Upon realizing what just happened- an agent just seeing the very slogan dont get attached to the subject be ridiculed, Blaine knew he needed to act on this before word spreads like wildfire. He gathers his wits and brisk towards the man whom just entered the broom closet. Blaine slips in after him and the man turns, goes into a frigid stand still to greet Blaine, his face doing all it can to not show his thoughts but there were chinks in the armour.
"Argent Marcus, what you saw out there was not what you thought," assures Blaine, though he knew if he was in Marcus position, he would have a variation of thoughts.
"Of course, sir," responds Marcus. He nods, trying to feign his comprehension but Blaine knew he needed a more elaborated explanation than that, even though he was the head agent and the more minimal, collateral agents did not have the authority to question him. They were assigned to follow orders, but he needed the man to understand before he jumped into his own conclusion.
"This is part of a plan- my plan, at least," tells Blaine. "Were on a time crunch and I cant earn the boys complete trust if were simply just friends-"
"Of course, sir-" says the man, but Blaine silences him. It was irritable, even though the man didnt actually say anything that swam with doubt, Blaine needed to get his point through.
"The not way for me to gain the boys trust is if Im in a relationship with him. Thats what you saw out there," explains Blaine. "This is for the benefit of the mission and nothing else."
"Yes, sir," responds Marcus. Maybe he did have doubt but he just was so good at hiding it, it was impossible for Blaine to elaborate further considering the man has already fallen into his own conclusion. Though Blaine wants to believe he was trying to convince the man that his actions was for the greater good of the mission, mostly he wanted to convince himself of that, and make him feel less guilty at the fact that he was exploiting the boy, when he knew he would be gone in a few days time.
He wanted to set some reassurance to himself that his actions was for the sole benefit of the mission, and for the Hummels safety. All this, was part of the plot, part of a plan but he knew otherwise that he was knee deep in emotional attachment. Maybe if he couldnt convince the man, he could at least convince himself but the feelings he had for the boy was real, and he knew no matter what words he chose, he couldnt convince himself that his feelings were a pretence- despite how much he wished they were.
Marcus says nothing but stands there, attentive. His eyes are vacant, which probably is compliments of the Agency. They trained their operatives so well to never give anything away it was almost impossible to read a CIA agents thoughts. "I need your discretion here. Nobody else can know about this. I would tell the team but you know how the rules are."
"Yes, sir. You have my word that my lips are sealed," tells Marcus. He wasnt sure how trusting this man was. He barely knew Marcus. Sure, he had seen him around the agency sometimes but they were never in a mission together- or was but Blaine couldnt recall as he paid very little attention to the more collateral operatives. It was comical, wasnt it? How his whole career now could he shattered by a person he never once got to know. Funny how life pans out.
There was nothing more that Blaine could do but to hope this man meant his words, that he would turn a blind eye to what was so clearly a crime in the eyes of the jurisdiction. Maybe this was a sign he chose to ignore- a sign that said he should drop this now, surrender to the agency and allow them to step in, but he was stubborn. He wanted it all- another successful mission, to be the one to present Elizabeths Discovery, to be with the boy. He was greedy, and soon it would lead to his demise..he feels.
"Can I say one thing though, agent Anderson?" says Marcus just before Blaine is about to exit the closer. He nods, allowing the man to go on. "Be sure you know its part of the plan, and not get attached to the subject."
It him like a bullet. Did Marcus see behind his words? Did Marcus not believe what he was trying to convince? Was he not convincing enough? Who was he kidding. He allowed his emotions, his place of vulnerability to be exposed and when you expose that side of you, to whoever it may be, closing it shit would pose as a challenge. He should know this. It took all the inner power he could muster to shut the door closed on his parents. He unlocked them, now they were pouring out. Who knew how he was going to shut it this time.
Blaine nods, resisting the urge to tell the man that he knew of the rules, of what he had to stay clear off because, even though he was the head agent and he should know better than the rest, he couldnt disagree with the man that that was what he had to keep in mind- that this was part of the plan, and to not get attached to the subject. A thought he once followed by, but now has morphed into something even he found difficult to follow.
----------
Kurt could not get enough of the stares and whispers he was getting. He sits at the back of the class, pretending to mind his own business during home room but really he was smirking at the fact that the talk of the school today was that he and Blaine(it still felt odd to use the boys real name in his head, but he loved this notion because nobody else knew Blaine. Everybody knew Lance. It made him feel special to know this little piece of the boy that everybody else was clueless about) had publicly shared a kiss in the middle of the busy hallways.
It had been this way all day. Everywhere he turned, people were talking about him or staring at him. It reminded him of the time word got out that his mother had died. Everybody just looked at him with sad, pitiful eyes. He hated it, but for some reason, having these people look at him with loathe and disgust, this time, gave him a greater sense of satisfaction. These people couldnt do anything to him, the boy had ensured him of that. They couldnt touch him. They couldnt touch what he and Blaine had.
Tina enters the room in the moment, followed closely by a certain Marley who looks rather uncomfortable to be approaching Kurt. It gave him satisfaction as well, to know that he got what somebody else wanted. It happened rarely, if not never at all, but knowing that Marley crushed hard on Blaine only fueled his superiority. "Do you know what everybody is talking about?" says Tina, excitement riddled in her Asian face.
"Hey guys," responds Kurt, acknowledging Marley as well even though the girl did not reciprocate the same. She looked rather unhappy even, but as if Kurt gave a damn. "What is everyone talking about?"
He wanted to play it casual. He wouldnt pretend to know the schools hot topic as of late, even though it was so clearly about him judging from the glares and stares and soft mutterings from the cheerleaders he spotted just a few tables away from him. Besides, even though it was a major step for his life, he would pretend it wasnt something unorthodox because it isnt. Santana Lopez makes out with all her weekly boyfriends in the hallway on a daily basis. Why should just one, innocent kiss between two boys be treated any different than the indifference they treated when straight couples kiss. It was absurd. This school itself was absurd.
"That you and Lance totally made out in the school hallway!" shrieks Tina, much to Marleys displeasure. You could almost see the vague words Envious plastered across her forehead. Even her ears were burning red under her long, brown locks.
"It was just a kiss, relax," tells Kurt. Gossip just had a way of exaggerating it more than it really is.
"Regardless. Everyones talking about it. Theyre absolutely stunned. There hasnt been a gay couple in this school since like- the prehistoric times maybe. You basically evolutionised this school and I couldnt be prouder. But arent you afraid the jocks might see you?" ask Tina. She really was hyped up on something today, probably some herb from Southeast Asia.
"Not really," says Kurt, shrugging nonchalantly. He really wasnt afraid, because with the boy beside him, he was invicible. That was how he felt. "Besides, I think Lance taught us well enough to defend ourselves."
"Yeah, you have a point," says Tina as she slides into the sit in front of Kurts desk, but spinning her chair so they could talk. Marley took a seat next to Kurt, but she stays silent. Was he suppose to apologize for some reason to this girl? Absolutely not. A reality check is what she needs. "Hes one of a kind, isnt he?"
"Who is?" ask Kurt, pulling him out of his reverie about Marley.
"Lance! I mean, hes handsome, really kind, cares so little for the social pyramids of this school, befriends outcasts like us. Plus hes gay, and dating you. I dont think Ive ever met anyone like that. Someone with the opportunity of being with the popular kids but instead chooses to be with the commoners," tells Tina. Indeed, the boy was a rare talent now that Tina has listed down his qualities. He was different from everybody else, but the thing was he doesnt even need to be. There are a lot of people who contrive to be different from the rest just because, but the boy was natural.
"I agree," tells Kurt, smiling to his own thoughts.
"I just think its a waste," speaks up Marley. She doesnt make eye contact with anyone when she says this but keeps here eyes on her books. "I think its a waste that somebody like that is gay."
"Marley!" interjects Tina with disapproval. Her voice reaching a new height of pitch. "Thats prejudice."
"Im just saying," shrugs the girl indifferently, but Kurt couldnt stand it any more. It has been years of him laying down on the ground while the rest of the world walked all over him. This was one thing- his relationship with Blaine- that he wouldnt stand for somebody knocking it down.
"You know what I find is a waste?" says Kurt. "I find it a waste for guys like Ryder to bother asking girls like you out. Girls who are greedy and have no thoughts whatsoever to commit to one guy. You clearly said yes to Ryders prom proposal, so why the hell would you still bother with Lance? Oh, I know! Because youre greedy, thats why. People are not objects and you cant treat them like theyre consolation prizes. If you didnt want to go with him, dont lead him by saying yes to going to prom with him. Its stupid and frankly, its disgusting. And swallow your hostility towards me. I didnt make Lance gay, he was gay when you met him. I also didnt choose to be with him. I am because I like him, and guess what? He likes me too, so dont make me feel guilty just because hes not straight. Find somebody else, because even if Lance was single, you dont have a penis to satisfy him."
Tina has her jaw hanging, surprised by Kurts outburst. Even Kurt himself was a little taken aback by how defensive he was but it wasnt as if he spoke spontaneously. It was his thoughts. He hated how Marley was blatantly attacking his and Lances relationship. A waste? If anything, it was a gain. A gain to somebody who used to be lonely, and pressed into the corner of the room he was in, wallowing in solitude. She was ridiculous to not have though how he words affected Kurt, and he would not take back what he said because it was the cold, hard truth. It was a plus to see how the girl was out of words as well, but in that moment, the hair-standing screech of the PA system booms from the ceiling.
"Attention, sad sacks of McKinley" voices Principal Sylvester through the speakers. She always addresses the students in some new, thought out reference. "Lance Jackson and Kurt Hummel, get your butts to my office this instant."
Everybody in the classroom turns their attention to Kurt, which is so odd considering he was 85% sure that most of these people here did not even knew who he was at least until today with the apparent spectacle he put up for everybody in the hall way. Some were adding stupid intense sound effects as Kurt gathers his things and dumps the contents into his satchel. He warns to leave with as much dignity as he could, even though he felt a magnitude of nervousness now coursing through his veins. Tina has nothing because even though nobody has said anything, even she knew it was about the kiss.
"Are we still on for accessories shopping after school?" ask Kurt.
"Definitely," says Tina, shooting a nervous glance to Marley. What was she, some form of royalty people had to fear? Its sad because up until today, Kurt actually could tolerate the girl. Tina was the one he was sceptical about being friends with, what with a self-centric ways but Marley ultimately takes the bitch trophy.
Kurt gets up, the whispering still endless as he steps out of the classroom. Even in the hallway, people were still shooting him dirty looks. He fought the urge to use some of the moves he has learnt from Blaine because that would probably put him in greater trouble. But was trouble really what he was in? If it was, he was prepared to fight till the death. He didnt not let some blue eyed, brown haired girl diminish his relationship, he was definitely not going to let some principal do the same. As Kurt steps into the main office of the school, he finds Blaine already seated outside the principals office, wearing a rather relaxed expression.
"Hey you," greets Blaine, shooting one of those adorable smiles Kurt loved so much. Even the office clerks were staring at them. Seriously, people needed to broaden their narrow freakin minds. "Whats wrong?"
Apparently, on top of his list of remarkable qualities, the boy also had a keen sense to know if something was of the matter, or maybe its because Kurt paid very little attention these days to whether or not his thoughts registered on his face. Maybe opening himself up to the boy gave him a greater understanding of Kurt himself, which explained why he could tell simply by the glance of his face. Or maybe it was because his brows were furrowed in such an irritable way.
"Not having- the best of days I guess," tells Kurt as he falls to the empty space next to the boy. "How about we make a guess as to why we were called down here."
"Hm, what do you think?" feigns the boy, pulling a half smirk.
"Not sure, really. All we did was kissed," shrugs Kurt, minimizing the issue at hand even though, in the eyes of the school board, it was monumental. "What do you think thy have in store for us? Shackles and a whip?"
"That sounds so sadistic, then again it is McKinley," says the boy. "Whatever it is, were in this together, right?"
The boy holds up his hand, fingers outstretched and ready to be clasp with Kurt. This was it then, the defining moment of complete rebellion. Once their hands marry, and their fingers entwined, there would be no going back from whatever awaits them in the other room. Did the boy know this as well? Of course he did. He wanted to show Kurt that nothing could touch them, or what they had. This was what he meant- that he did not need to fear anything as long as they were next to each other, and so Kurt takes the boys hand willingly and shoots him a smile.
"The principal will see you both now," says the receptionist. She was judging them, her eyes glaring at them from behind her spectacles.
"Ready?" ask the boy. Kurt inhales deeply. Maybe he was exaggerating, as if this was a Bond movie or something, but he feared the worst, as he should, but with this reassuring hand in his own, he felt invincible.
"Ready," tells Kurt.
Blaine pushes the door open and they walk into the office, hand in hand. The room was adequately packed with people. Principal Sylvester sits behind her desk, her eyes squinted and deadly, but her bright coloured track suit made her look less intimidating. On the right corner of the room, however, compromised of a small army of the people Kurt hated with a burning passion. All of which has done at least something to him.
Quinn Fabray stood front and centre, adorned in her cheerleading attire, hair pulled back in a high pony. She wears a self-indulgent smirk, blue eyes like daggers to them. Kurt still remembered the first time Quinn had said anything to him. It was during sophomore year and she had told everybody that Kurt was suffering from chlamydia from having sex with a trucker down at the truck stop at the Lima warehouse. It was stupid, and he never paid attention to it but it still hurt when people called him a cheap gay whore, but that soon dialled down when people forgot his very existence. Santana Lopez stood just slightly behind her, where she always is, really- trailing after Quinn bitch. She wears the same cheerleader outfit, her Satanic face so eerie to even glance at. She was the real McKinleys cheap whore, although it always seemed like she and Quinn battled for their glorious title. Towering behind them, no surprise, was Puckerman. Of course he would be here.
"Have a seat, gentleman," tells principal Sylvester, restrained for some reason. Kurt and Blaine fall into the seats across the desk, beside each other and await for whatever the reason they were called here in the first place, but given the events that transpired in the morning, and having these three idiots here, it really didnt take a Math wiz to piece two and two together. "I assume you know why youre here?"
"Not a clue. It has to be a damn good reason to pull us out of class, where we were studying. What students should actually be doing," says Kurt. "We pay school fees, dont we? So this better be pertaining education otherwise I dont think my father would be too happy with you pulling us out of learning."
He knew he was taking a jab at the principal, but to be honest, he could not care less. This was the littlest of things to get him for, and he wasnt just going to sit here and be patronize by an adult who should know better. Kurt glances over to the three idiots, their faces flashing slightly from the response but quickly going back to their contrived intimidation. "I agree," says Blaine, in which Kurt couldnt help but to smile. He wasnt alone, thank god.
"Well, miss Fabray, miss Lopez and mister Puckerman had informed me with rather-- troubling information," tells principal Sylvester.
"I hope it was about the cheerleading uniforms. I mean, theyre crazy inappropriate. Those skirts are so short I swear I can see their ovaries whenever they bend or stretch, not that its a pleasure or anything. If anything, its a displeasure," tells Kurt. Blaine chimes in with a chuckle.
"Not quite, mister Hummel. Not quite. They came to tell me that you two created quite an uncomfortable spectacle in the school corridors earlier today. Is that true, miss Fabray?" ask principal Sylvester, in which Quinn quickly takes the spot to no doubt do what she does best- destroy the morals of everyone else.
"It is true, principal. Our friends told us that these two were spotted trading kisses with each other, in the public eye. Speaking as the president of the celibacy club, I think it was deeply disrespectful. We are a community that holds very strong family beliefs, and to have two boys kissing so blatantly in front of everyone is just an insult to the core values of this school. Frankly, I think I speak for everyone," says Quinn.
A rage surges inside of Kurt, a fury he never even knew existed inside his system. He could feel himself clutching so hard on the armrest of the chair, he even feared he would break the cheap plastic material into halves. Blaine is watching him instead, because everything just registers onto his face he couldnt be bothered to control it anymore. If it wasnt for the gentle, reassuring hand that laid on top of his own, he would be sprung out of this chair and had Quinn Fabray in a choke hold she would have thought putting mascara was a hassle.
"I suggest we punish them- severely, for breaking the rules of this school, and for breaking the rules of Christianity even. Such acts should not be tolerated in such a traditional school, in fact, we would be influencing others to do the same, principal. Maybe then we would rid the world of homosexuality-"
"Okay, thats enough," says Blaine, silencing the girl.
"I dont think-" tries Quinn but all Blaine does is glare at the girl in such a lethal way. Kurt has never seen this look, but he reckons a look that is only reserved for when he got really, really angry, and right now, he was. Kurt could see it in those usually calming, sunset eyes but this time they were the colour of the suns supernova. Even Kurt was a little scared.
"Im not going to sit here and listen to the biggest whore in this school tell me that my boyfriend and I are ridiculing Christianity," says Blaine, in which Quinns eyes widen like saucers, it gave Miss Pillsbury a run for her money. "Principal Sylvester, Kurt and I shared a kiss. I wont deny that, and I wont try to minimize it because yes, I agree that public display of affection should not be encouraged nor tolerated in a high school, but what Quinn and her friends are doing here is not enforcing the rules, or trying to make this school a better place. What theyre doing, is acting out of prejudice, and that is something I wont stand for. Lets do a quick tally here, shall we guys? Kurt, how many times in a week have we seen Santana making out with a guy for several uncomfortable minutes?
"Roughly..twenty?" says Kurt, doing the quick calculation in his head. She practically made out with guys four times in a day, and in public, for about half an hour.
"Okay, and how many times have we seen Puckerman practically dry humping his daily new girlfriends in the public eye?" ask Blaine.
"Maybe...five times?" says Kurt, quickly doing the Math in his head. Puckerman was always doing inappropriate things with his girlfriends, it was no secret. He did it sometimes to even impress his jock mates, which is so demeaning to woman.
"And last, but definitely not least. Kurt, have you read the exclusive, McKinley social blog lately?" ask Blaince, in which Kurt simply nods, because he did just last night, and the hot topic, before this whole kissing thing, was far bigger than their own scandalous, frowned upon kiss. "And what was the headline topic last night?"
"Quinn Fabray, the ball in the football team," tells Kurt, an article he only briefly read about how Quinn had recently asked all the football guys over to her house, where she allowed each member to do her. Whether it was true or not, it wasnt hard to believe considering Quinns history.
"Yes, and thats not even counting the number of times weve seen her making out with guys in the hallways. In fact, when I first enrolled here, Quinn even offered to make out with me so she could boost her cool factor," tells Blaine. This was news to Kurt even, but judging by the way Quinn shrinks into a barely noticeable ball, it was no lie. "So you see principal Sylvester, our community actually arent that concrete with family values, so I think its only fair that if youre going to punish Kurt and I severely, for kissing, these guys should receive harsher punishments considering they did far more disgusting things than we did. I have witnesses, should you need them."
It was amazing to watch the boy go through that run, as if he was well rehearsed for it, as if it was scripted even. He held his composure. He did not flinch, not even once. He went on with such a flair, with such an air of confidence even principal Sylvester has her eye brows raised. Clearly she was expecting them to just accept what is, and though Kurt would have interjected with far worse profanities, Blaine did such an ease of a job Kurt simply relaxed and allowed the boy to take the drivers seat here. Quinn and her posse look absolutely humiliated, and they werent denying anything because they knew they couldnt. They knew that Blaine had just as high of a social standing as they did, and so the number of people who would back Blaine up as compared to them was questionable. Superiority at its best.
"You know, I really have very little time to waste on things like this," says the principal. She looks deeply aggravated at both of them, Quinn, her posse and Kurt and Blaine. "Clearly I cannot stop any of you from having sex because your hormones are raging and I know thats a terrible thing to say, but it is true. I have, honestly, very little care for who kisses who or who sleeps with who. In case anyone is concerned, I am trying to maintain a perfect record for this year. I barely have anybody dropping out or getting pregnant or doing drugs and I very well dont want to ruin that streak. Public display of affection has always been frowned upon, and it will stay that way- for every sexual orientation. Got it?"
"But principal Sylvester-"
"But nothing, Miss Fabray. If you dont think I know your track record, youre insane. Same goes for the both of you, Miss Lopez and Mister Puckerman. The three of you are equally as appalling and you have some nerve to come into my office to report two boys kissing. If you want your parents to know of what Ive heard, you three are to stay diligent students until you graduate and get the hell out of my school. If you remotely step out of line, I will cancel prom for the three of you. Understood?" heated says principal Sylvester. The three of them are speechless, hence simply managing a nod. It was hilarious to watch the three most popular kids in this school get overpowered by someone who has always had their backs, though this time, principal Sylvester has her own best interest in mind, which is a plus for Kurt and Blaine. "Now get the hell out, and I dont want to hear anything until you graduate. That goes for the two of you queens as well."
"I appreciate you treating us all as equals. Thank you, principal," politely says Blaine.
"Now get the hell out," orders the principal. "Except you two. I have a few words to say."
Quinn, Santana and Puckerman exited the office so quickly even lightning didnt strike that fast. The look of defeat on their faces was priceless. Kurt wished he had a digital camera to document this very moment, but thank God for a photographic memory. It felt satisfying for the three to finally get the taste of their own medicine, to be tormented by somebody. He was done always feeling like a bug as compared to them, now it finally felt as though the were of equal size. He never thought he would say this, but thank you principal Sylvester.
"Now, I wont pretend I didnt know of the legends of this school. I know there has been some stories told about a certain gay couple that met their demise, but I want to tell you two that that is absolutely false," tells principal Sylvester, much to Kurts surprise. Apparently principals werent completely unaware of rumours. "This school has never assigned students to attack other students, that is absurd. Although I do not understand the dynamic of the gay relationship because I always wonder who is top and who is bottom when I look at a couple of queers, I would never curse death upon either of you, although I would if you do anything to derail my train to success. Point is, do not worry about history repeating itself. And as for your relationship, although as a principal Im not allowed to support teenage relationships because we all know of the Pandora box that comes with it, I will commend you on your courage. Truly."
It was definitely a turn of events. Kurt definitely was not expecting the principal to be encouraging of their relationship. All this while he had thought the teachers were prejudice. Was he wrong? Was principal Sylvester actually taking their side on this? Even Kurt found it hard to believe but judging from the smile on the womans face, that notion was true.
"But- since when have you condoned gay relationships? And since when do you not immediately jump into the same boat as Puckerman, Quinn and Santana?" ask Kurt, because he needed answers himself.
"Ive never publicly showed my love for the gays because frankly I hate them, but then again I hate all heteros and homos so technically Im not prejudice, Im just cynical," tells principal Sylvester. It did make sense. "And about those three, I wont deny that I take their side because their parents are rich, but I guess I came to my senses. That is as much as Im saying. Now, get back to class."
"Thank you, principal," says Blaine. He pulls a pretty smile at her way before he rises to his feet, taking Kurts hand in his own and they venture out of the office, with the principals last word barely audible behind them.
"I cannot wait till they bloody graduate," mutters the principal to herself.
Outside, Blaine does not let go of Kurts hand. It was comforting knowing he was physically here, a firm rock for Kurt, and an anchor for him to know he wasnt dreaming that that meeting with the principal had been better than expected. He had expected the principal to threaten them, tell them if they showed any apparent inappropriate affection to each other publicly again, they were be sentenced to a symbolically public execution but that wasnt the case at all. It was hard to grasp the fact that the school Kurt had always thought to be infected with homophobia, actually has a decent human being for a captain. This completely changed his perception of McKinley- by a lot.
"That went pretty good, would you agree?" ask the boy as they exit the main office, their hands slowly easing until they were separated. Maybe he was cutting the boys blood flow or something. In that moment however, Quinn Fabray and her dynamic duo appears from an empty classroom and obstacles their path. Quinn in the spotlight, where she always is while her sidekicks stand by her wings.
"Who the hell do you think you are, huh?" growls the girl, her blue eyes sharp and deadly at Blaine. "You think you can just show us up? If you think Im caving, youre fucking insane. Im telling my father about this, who happens to be a well respected, pious man and he would not stand for this. Im sure he can get you both locked up or something for being so disgusting-"
"Go ahead, Quinn," says Kurt, surprising even himself more so than the girl. Clearly, in her history with Kurt, she assumed he was going to shrivel into insignificance and allowed her to dominate him, but with this new sense of bravery inside of him, and the boy in his proximity, he was invincible. "Go ahead and tell your father that a couple of queers kissed in the hallway. Go right ahead because thats not going to do anything to us. You see, for years I lived in fear from the three of you, but now I realize youre just nothing but sad, lonely losers. None of you actually have anyone you connect with, all you have are sleezy tricks and frankly, that makes me sad for you so if telling on us to your dad is whats gonna make you feel better about yourself, be my guest. But know that no matter what you do or what you say, its not going to touch us because you cant control this, Quinn."
The girl looks absolutely furious. Her long, spidery fingers curl into tight fist. Her head was so red it could have exploded like a volcano but nothing felt more rewarding than to see the girl speechless, and completely frustrated that she couldnt win this battle, because the opponent isnt fighting. She lets out a deafening scream of frustration before she storms through Kurt and Blaine, but Kurt couldnt quite keep his mouth shut.
"Ill be sure to tell your dad how you tried to get your name on the most Tappable chicks list, alright?" shouts Kurt. The girl screams once more before she breaks into a run. Santana Lopez spits someone Spanish profanity before she runs after her majesty.
"I am so hot for you right now, babe," whispers Blaine, in which Kurt feels a warm shudder rush down his body, down to his nether regions, but one person hasnt left yet, and he doesnt look like he was in a rush. Instead, what plays across his face was something cynically mysterious, as if he found a piece if a puzzle or something. He steps forward, right in front if Blaine, eyes studying the boy, a victorious smirk on his puffy face.
"You better keep him on a short leash," was all Puckerman said before he pushes through them and disappears around the corner, leaving nothing behind but a ghost of something impending.
---------
"Oh God I dont think I can take this anymore!" screams Jacob as he falls onto the ground after finishing a 2.4 kilometre run. The other three boys looked just as weary, but it was still satisfying to watch how persistent they were. Truly these boys were one of the best peoples Blaine has ever had the pleasure of meeting.
It was sad how soon he would have to bid them goodbye as well, but how he was going to do that was something completely enigmatic. How exactly was he suppose to up and leave? This was definitely the reason why the rule was to not get attached to the subject. It wasnt because it could jeopardize the mission, or cloud your judgement, but it was the saying goodbye part that would kill your every part. Blaine takes in the surroundings, savouring every last minute he had in this mission. Soon, this would all be a distant memory- much like Kurt.
The events that transpired earlier today was still too hectic to process- from their public début kiss, to agent Marcus finding out of his secret pretence, to principal Sylvester and the tremendous trio, to that small altercation with Quinn that Kurt stepped up and defended them. It still amazed him how far the boy had come from being scared and shy to standing up to one of his number one tormentors, and then to Puckermans words. Blaine wasnt sure why, but what the boy said did not give him an easy feeling, as if there was more to that than just a hollow threat. He swore he would protect the boy, not because it was his obligation, but because he would die before he let anything happen to him.
But every time he felt himself sinking deeper into reality, with the boy, it scared him. It was a constant reminder in his head, how this had to be pretence but really there was no use lying to himself because what he felt was blatant. He was attached to the boy, and though he wants to keep it professional, believe that his feelings fake, it wasnt. He knew it in gut feeling.
"Okay, no more runs. Please," begs Jacob as he climbs up to the bleachers, his knees caving in and he falls to the ground, panting and practically half dead. "I can actually feel my body failing me."
"Youre a drama queen, you know that?" laughs Blaine. "You just a few more days of this and then youll be set. Speaking of prom, who do you have your eye on?"
"I wont say," tells Jacob, his cheeks bright red which was not the result from doing tracks. He was ashamed,
Blaine could tell. Maybe he had his eyes on somebody he knew he stood no chance with, but Blaine would not accept that. Jacob was truly an amazing person. Take away the glasses, with a proper haircut any girl would he lucky to date him. "Shes a little- out of my league."
"Trust me, Jacob. Tell me who you have your eye on and Ill get have her in your arms by the time prom comes, or die trying," assures Blaine. He really wasnt sure how, but this was at least a department he could help with. He wouldnt brag, but he was pretty charming.
"Alright, fine," exasperates Jacob. He takes awhile to himself, sucking in oxygen before he voices out. "Her name is Lauren Zizes. Captain of the wrestling team."
"Captain of the- what?" frowns Blaine. A girl was a captain of the wrestling team? He wasnt a sexist or chauvinistic or anything, but it definitely was a surprise to hear that a girl ran the wrestling team. "Does she know you exist?"
"The other day she called me a scrawny piece of meat she would take only ten seconds to get me to tap out," tells Jacob, rather proudly a that.
"Sounds- romantic," says Blaine. "Any thoughts on how youre going to get her?"
"I thought of asking her but Im afraid shell break my limbs or something. Shes more of those independent, thinks-prom-is-for-lame-Os kind of girls, you know?" says Jacob.
"Trust me, Jake," tells Blaine, because sometimes he use the boys quicker nick name. "Everybody dreams of going to prom, no matter how much they tell themselves they dont need to."
It was true, in his eyes at least. Through Blaines very speedy childhood, he never took a second to realize what he missed and he heard very little about what prom was but he was content that a secret agent was what he aspired to be and told himself he didnt need all those typical teenager bullshit, but being in McKinley, he finally opened his eyes to just how much he missed out- parties, friends, bullies, a social hierarchy, prom, a boyfriend-- the teenage norms. He never knew he wanted all of this until he stepped foot into this mission.
"So, what do you suggest?" ask Jacob, waiting in anticipation.
"Make her swoon," advise Blaine. "Make a spectacle, propose to her in a way that will make it impossible for her to say no."
Jacob simply sighs heavily as if he has no clue whatsoever on how to execute such a thing. It was a pity, really, because all the guy wanted to be was desired by someone and though Blaine never really had much expertise on the romance department, he knew that to win a persons heart, you have to swoon them- be bold, be courageous and go for it even if there was much uncertainty.
"Tell you what. Ill help you, if you get a decent haircut first," tells Blaine, because clearly his hair wasnt going to get him very far- in life, or wherever else.
"Sounds like a fair trade I guess," shrugs Jacob. "I just hope you know what youre doing."
Blaine simply gives an assuring smile as he begins to come up with different plots in his head. He was going to die trying to get the girl of Jacobs dream for him, that would be his mission. Was he taking on more than he could handle? Even his priority, the objective wasnt even close in sight, not to mention the time crunch he was on, but he would do this- for Jacob. "I hope I do too," tells Blaine.
"You know, youre really just-- amazing, Lance," abruptly tells Jacob, much to Blaines surprise. "You look like you do, but you turn out to be really awesome. I wont lie, the first time you walked down those halls, I was like Oh here we go, another popular kid to add to the ranks, but I was wrong."
"Thanks, I guess," says Blaine, but really he didnt quite get it. He wasnt trying to be anyone but himself. Sure, with the boy he believed it was a pretence even though it clearly wasnt, but with these boys, Jacob, Phat, Jamie and Uranius- he was being his utmost self to.
"Im still sorry for knocking you out the first time," tells Jacob, reminiscing on the time he and his three friends had kidnapped Blaine into an empty classroom.
"I still hold a grudge on that," smirks Blaine.
"So what about you then? Prom? With Kurt?" ask Jacob. It was a question that struck a chord to him every time the concept of him and Kurt going to prom together came up. He was excited- really excited, but he feared that that wont be a possibility at all seeing as how the deadline will be up on prom night itself. How was he going to serpent around this, even he was clueless.
"Yeah," was all that Blaine could manage. "Any advice?"
"None at all. Ive never been to a prom in my life," says Jacob and Blaine fights the urge to chime in with a me too. "I think its great that youre taking Kurt."
"What do you mean?" frowns Blaine, not comprehending what the boy meant.
"I mean, Kurts been a loner since like- forever. The popular kids picked on him a lot because he was the only openly gay kid. You dont understand just how bad it got. I didnt say it when he first came into the club, but in the past, Ive walked into the bathroom to find him crying in a stall, or wiping away his tears, ashamed of being caught or something. Ive always thought they treated him unfairly to be honest, but you know the schools dynamic. Us underdogs, as much as we should unite, its best to keep our own heads down, but you changed that, Lance. You gave us motivation to fight back, bravery and all that, and I just feel so-- happy for Kurt, that he found someone. I hope you understand how much you mean to him. Even though I didnt know Kurt that well before this, but I knew he was lonely. It just makes me smile that he found a happy ending, or somewhat," tells Jacob.
All this time, Blaine had only heard the boys story from Kurt himself- but to hear someone else, someone who stood by the sidelines and watch the things that unravel in Kurts life, it just made it more real than just the made-up visions in his head. He knew now, what he meant to the boy- a solace, comfort, a friend, which made it even more impossible for him to just up and walk away, but how was he suppose to play it? Either which way, he would need to leave the boy..unless he left the agency completely. Was that an absurd thought? It wasnt as if it never crossed his mind in the past, how his life would be normal, how he would be free to live life like the commoners, but was that really what he wanted? And was Kurt worth to let that all go?
"Thanks, Jacob," says Blaine. The three other boys finally complete their rounds and a deflated, sprawled on the ground and begging the heavens for wider lungs to inhale more air. "Alright guys, great job. I think its time we can move on to phase two of Project Prom."
"What the hell is phase two? Have as walk on burning coal?" snarls Phat in his squeaky voice, tired voice. Clearly running was not his forte.
"Phase two is getting you guys to look decent. That will be Kurts job, and then the next would be getting dates. We have 7 days before prom, no rest until you have a hot piece in your arms, got it?" tells Blaine as the boys simply groans. The sun was slowly setting to the horizons when theyre through with the day as Blaine jumps into his own car and makes the route for somewhere to execute his other mission, a personal mission, for Kurt.
Blaine pulls into the small, humble looking building with a sign illuminated in neon lights, reading Burts Automotive Garage. The lights were dimly lit inside, and though he had no idea whether the man would be present, he had hopes. Looking out of his wind shield, he could see the black van parked just a few blocks away and knew that that was the security detail on Burt Hummel. He wondered if they had installed microphones inside, which could jeopardize his entire mission, but he doubt so considering they were only there for surveillance. Carl would no doubt get word on his presence here, and he would have to explain himself but he would cross the bridge when he got to it.
Walking into the garage, the whiff of gasoline hits him straight into the nostrils. He hated that smell, hated anything that was remotely flammable. It honestly was one of his weakness. A car sits in the middle, stripped open of its parts. The perimeter was surrounded with tools and other metallic objects that looked both helpful and lethal. The floor was covered in dirt, and somewhere in the distant was the sound of tools yielding. Being a little too distracted, Blaine trips over a tool box and it sends the contents inside clinking and crashing all over the ground, the sound deafening in the otherwise relatively silent room. Burt appears then from behind the stripped apart car, alerted by the sound of the tool box. His eyes riddled with surprise.
"Lance, right?" asked the man, trying to gauge whether he knew Blaine or not, which was a little offensive considering theyve met. He wasnt trying to be cocky, but he was usually memorable to people, but not to this man apparently.
"Yes, sir. Sorry if my presence here is a little out of the blue," tells Blaine, remaining in his post.
"Why are you here?" ask Burt, cutting to the chase. Clearly this was not a man that liked to beat around the bush. Its funny how out of all the intense missions Blaine had partook in, nothing felt quite as terrifying as facing this man, about to ask what he was about to ask.
"I came here to talk to you about Kurts college plans, actually," tells Blaine, gulping hard and hoping he wasnt trespassing some imaginary boundary line here. There definitely was a boundary line between a father, and a fathers sons boyfriend, right? This definitely felt like it was crossing way past what was allowed.
"Oh?" says the man, eye brows raising. "Before that, could you maybe pick up all the things you dropped?"
"Oh- of course," says Blaine as he slowly gathers the contents and dumps them into the tool box. He recognizes a few of them as hes seen them in the CIA training, but really he knew very little about tools, except maybe the function of a gun.
"What about Kurts college plans? You plan on heading on to college with him or something?" ask the man. He looks the least bit interested, his attention back to the stripped open car.
"Not exactly," tells Blaine, swallowing hard. Clearly he had no college plans whatsoever. It was comically for the man to bring it up. Blaine settles the tool box on the table nearby and turns to face the mans back. "I was wondering if you knew where Kurt wanted to go."
"Columbia University, like his mother," tells the man, so sure of his knowledge. He wondered if Kurt would even approve of this, then again the answer would be a definite No. Even the boy was afraid to tell his father of his real passion let alone have Blaine tell it for him.
"Not quite, sir," tells Blaine, and the yielding noise stops as the man turns around, a look of irritants riddled across his face.
"Excuse me?" says the man. "I think I would know my son better than you do."
"I dont doubt that at all sir," says Blaine, choosing his words carefully this time. The man held what could be a weapon if he intended it to be so disrespecting the man definitely was not the best of decisions right now. "Its just- Kurt has disclosed to me that he actually aspires to be a designer, a fashion designer actually, and I was honored to have seen some of his designs and Im telling you sir, Kurt is gifted. He has quite an eye for trends and fashion, and he also told me that he wanted to attend New Yorks School of Design Arts and frankly, despite the very stringent competition, I think he is talented enough to get in if he applied."
Burt simply watches him with, a vacant stare in his eyes. Whether he was too exhausted to bother, or if he was speechless was something Blaine could not figure out. Though he knew coming here, telling the man this was absolutely crossing a line, he needed to tell the man even if Kurt ever found out and disapproved. When the inevitable happens that he was to leave, he wanted to know that Kurt would be living a life he was proud to call his own, even if it meant losing the boy way before he was extracted.
"Is that so," tells Burt. "He disclosed that to you, did he?"
"He did, sir," says Blaine, practically shivering in his boots. He couldnt help it. This man just radiated such a high authority, and a zero toleration for nonsense. He reminded Blaine much of director Johnson, who in no way would put up with any form of B.S or incompetence.
"Do you kids even realize what the world is out there, hm?" says Burt. "Its a world of uncertainty out there. The world cares very little for you, and unless youre the best of the best, you wont stand a chance. Im sure Kurts pretty creative. When he was ten, he asked for a sewing machine, but the fashion industry is not concrete, and I wont let my son enter an industry with such a risk. Columbia was where his mother went to. At least there, he would already have people watching him- expecting the best I know its in his blood to be. His mother was the best-"
"Research scientist, I know. Kurt mentioned," interjects Blaine. He wasnt going to let this go. He was going to convince Kurts father if it killed him. "I dont know much about the fashion industry either, but I guess it is full of uncertainty, but life is full of uncertainty, mister Hummel. I might cross a line here, but was there a certainty that your wife would live a long, full life? No, there wasnt. Everything in life is uncertain, but if youre going to shelter yourself forever because youre afraid of falling, then youre living. Dont you want Kurt to seize every opportunity that presents him before its too late? Because youve experienced the uncertainty of life."
His words were definitely not well thought through, but he spoke with such passion because he wasnt going to let Kurt be subjected to a life that he wasnt passionate about. He wanted the best for the boy, and though he wished it didnt seem as though he accused the man of subjecting Kurt to a life he chose, not what Kurt wanted, it did seem that way. Burts eyes were blazing, practically hate fire. He needed to resolve this quickly.
"Im sorry, sir. I really am, but I just thought youd like to know," tells Blaine.
"Why didnt he tell me this himself?" ask the man, trying to keep his voice to a human level but Blaine knew the man wanted to bare his teeth and lunge at Blaine, ripping his throat out.
"He knew you wanted him to attend Columbia, like his mother did, like your wife did. He wanted to make you happy," tells Blaine, practically tip-toeing around the man with his words.
"Thats a shitty thing to want," exasperates the man. "Hes a kid. I should be wanting whats best for him, not the other way around."
Had he done it? Break through into the man, made him see from a different perspective? It did sound that way, but then again- it was odd how this man was listening to him. Maybe he did hold a rather profound position in Kurts life for the boys father to take his words into account. Maybe he really did mean a lot to Kurt.
"Our lives have just been- hectic, since Kurts mother died, you know?" says the man. "Hes been doing his best to keep me afloat, he thinks I dont know, but I do. But that shouldnt be the case. The tables shouldnt be turned, hes not suppose to be taking care of me. I should be the one taking care of him," tells Burt. All Blaine could do was stand here and listen to the man share about his thoughts. He opened this Pandora box, he would have to endure what was inside. "Youre right. Kurt should be able to seize the opportunity he wants. His mothers death should have opened my eyes to realizing that life really is uncertain."
"I apologize if I crossed a line, sir," tells Blaine.
"You did, but its okay. You were trying to get your point across," tells the man, in which Blaine allows himself to release a silent sigh of relief. That was obviously the reason why he brought in Elizabeth Hummel as an example. "Ill give it some thought. I wont promise anything because I still believe that the fashion industry is still unstable."
"That was all I was hoping for, sir," tells Blaine. He pulls out the now wrinkled pages of fashion illustrations from his back pocket and steps forward extending them to Burt. "I managed to get these from his sketch book. He doesnt know, but I thought youd like to see how good he is." The man takes it willingly but holds it in his hands instead. "And- urm, if you could do me a favor, I sort of did this behind his back because he would never agree to this, so I hope I can count on your discretion."
"You really care about him, dont you?" ask the man. Blaine believed it was pretence, but this was definitely not pretence anymore. This was real- raw, and true. He did care for the boy, despite how risky it was. Blaine gives no answer, in which the man assumes is a yes.
"Ill be going now. Thank you- for hearing me out," tells Blaine. He turns and makes for the door, but the mans words stops him in his place, words that pushed him to make his next actions.
"Never hurt him, alright?" tells the man.
-----------
Blaine walks up to the front porch, mustering every bit of courage he had. He had made a decision solely based on Burts last words to him. If he allowed this pretence to go on any further, he would hurt the boy even more than he knew he already had. He knew Carl and the whole Agency would disapprove, and this would even be going against the plot of this entire operation. The plan was to bridge the gap between him and the boy, gain his trust and retrieve the valuable discovery, but he made a mistake- falling for the boy, even though he hasnt admitted it yet, and now he wanted to resolve it. He wanted to come forward. He wanted to tell the boy why he was here, how they met.
He couldnt do this anymore. He couldnt look into the boys eyes and lie to him. He needed the boy to know the truth, even if that meant losing him forever but he hoped the boy would see this as his own confession of passion. He would let the team know of this decision after this, but for now- he needed to be truthful, because he wouldnt live with himself if it was the agency that broke the illusion and hurt Kurt, and not him. He would take responsibility for his actions, he would take responsibility for lying to the boy because that was the decision he made himself.
Knocking on the door itself took about all the courage he had. He feared the boys reaction, but he sees it now- this was the right thing to do. Kurt pulls open the door, looking pleasant surprised, dressed in long pyjama pants and an old Disney t-shirt. He smiles wide at Blaines presence, which killed Blaine knowing how tonight would turn out, but hey, life was full of uncertainty.
"Blaine? Im getting used to using your real name," smirks the boy. He wondered if the boy could get used to knowing his profession as well. Maybe they could actually be together after all this if the boy didnt feel absolutely and irrecoverably lied to. Fat chance.
"Hi Kurt," greets Blaine. "Can I come in?"
"Sure. My dad isnt home though," says Kurt. He steps aside and allows Blaine into the home. The boy leads him to the living room where he falls to the couch, and Blaine takes the seat a little further away from the boy. A little space would help him-- later. "Im watching Americas Next Top Model. I love the drama more than the show really."
"Youve gotten braver to being alone at home," tells Blaine, reminiscing on how he found the boy at the side of the road once, at a bus stop.
"Yeah, well," shrugs the boy. "How was your afternoon with Jacob and the boys?"
"Pretty sad, to be honest. I cannot do tracks. How about yours with Tina?" ask Blaine, maybe a little small talk would make him less of a nervous wreck.
"She was eternally choosy with accessories, but ultimately she agreed that not everything she wore had to be black. She looked really pretty with yellow for a change," tells Kurt. "Im excited to dress the boys next."
"Good, they need it," tells Blaine.
"You okay? You sound a little nervous," ask Kurt. He couldnt blame the boy. His voice did sound tense, even to his own ears but he couldnt help it. The fact that the boy would learn the truth just made the blood in his veins turn cold. He wasnt sure he could do this. Was it a mistake? No, it wasnt. It was what was right. Burt was right. He couldnt hurt the time--- anymore.
"Kurt, meeting you was probably the best thing that has ever happened to me," says Blaine, digging into his core and speaking nothing but the absolute truth. "From the day we met, I just-- you had something about you that appealed to me, something that spoke deep in my heart and I just..needed to know you, more so that it was my obligation. These past few days..being with you, has been the most alive Ive been, but ironically, it has also been the most relaxed and anchored to Earth Ive been. My life has been-- a roller coaster, so to speak, and being with you is actually a wilder roller coaster, but one I enjoy being on. I just-- need you to know that," tells Blaine, savouring every last moment those eyes watch him with such admiration, with such love, but he knew that would soon be a distant memory.
In that moment, however, something on Kurts wrist catches the fluorescent lights of the ceiling. It blinds Blaine for a second before he regains his vision. He studies thing on the wrist, because he would study anything to just procrastinate the moment the truth will be on the table, and the boy would make his decision. He knew he would have to tell the boy of his identity, but he wanted to delay this-- for just a few meaningless seconds.
"Thats a nice bracelet," compliments Blaine. The boy loses his focus and lifts his hand, shaking the thing where the light bounces off of it even more. How could complimenting Kurts jewellery change anything, right?
"Oh, thanks. It was my mothers," tells Kurt. Upon closer inspection, there is a little charm on it, half the size of a thumb maybe. It was a charm, of two doves intertwined. "She gave it to me a few days before she passed actually. Theres a little inscription on it. Do you want to see?"
Blaine nods, because like he said- anything to procrastinate the moment everything will change. How could discussing a little bracelet change his decision at all, right? The boy brings the bracelet closer and Blaine takes the charm in his fingers. There was a little line in between the two doves, as if it could be separated to reveal something inside. Blaine turns the thing to read the barely visible inscription, but under the light, it was clarity. The inscription writes, my greatest discovery.
