Kurt had never hunted with another normal. Not since his step brother died. A few weeks into June him and his step brother, Finn, had made it to New York. Kurt knew Finn didn't really want to be in New York. He said it was to dangerous and there would be infected people everywhere.
Finn hadn't talked much. He saw Kurt kill their parents, which was traumatizing for him. Finn had told Kurt it was okay and he would have done the same. Kurt knew though. Finn looked at him like he was a monster. Kurt had no choice though, Right?
"Kurt?" Blaine's voice interrupted. "Do you hear that?"
Blaine pulled out his gun, he looked straight ahead, and didn't even blink. Kurt looked in the direction Blaine was starring. The faint sounds of moving cans and feet could be heard. Kurt loaded his gun but kept it down by his side. They walked together slowly.
What was supposed to happen if it was the infected? Would Blaine have Kurt's back? Was Kurt supposed to have his? Blaine was slightly in front of Kurt. Kurt liked that Blaine was an alpha male. It meant that Blaine liked to take charge. Which was perfectly okay with Kurt.
The boys stayed quiet, moving closer to the corner of the road.
Even if Kurt never admitted it, he was petrified of the infected. No cure. Although it did spread fast, the older people were the first to go. You couldn't be infected by saliva or a bite. You had to have ingested the other persons blood. One of the upsides to this was if you got bit, nothing would happen. Nothing would happen if they bleed on you either. You had to physical ingest the blood.
Blaine's hand came across Kurt's chest stopping them both. Blaine put a finger to his own mouth and made a shushing noise. Kurt nodded, making sure that Blaine knew he understood.
Neither of them saw it coming. Kurt saw Blaine fall to the ground and a person was on top of him. Kurt's heart began to pound, and his adrenaline was pumping. Kurt aimed straight for the infecteds head and pulled the trigger. Blaine moved the body off of him quickly.
Kurt helped Blaine to his feet. Blaine shook off his pants getting rid of the dirt, while looking around making sure there were no more infecteds. Only to see a group coming from the opposite direction.
"Fuck! Cmon Kurt. We have to go." Blaine whispered. "Cmon!" Blaine pulled Kurt down the road by his arm toward the apartment building. Blaine shoved Kurt inside, chaining the doors behind him.
"Blaine, are you okay?" Kurt spoke out of breath. Blaine didn't answer. He had his mouth open and he was gawking at the ceiling. "Blaine?"
Blaine grinned looking back at Kurt. "Kurt, this place is amazing!"
Kurt laughed, "Lets go upstairs. I need food and to change." Kurt picked up the bag of food, while Blaine moved toward the elevator. Kurt looked up quickly, "Blaine! No!"
Blaine jumped slightly, "What? Whats wrong with the elevator?"
"We have to take the stairs." Kurt paused not knowing if he should explain. Blaine gave a unsure look. Kurt really wanted for Blaine to trust him. "My step brother and I took it one time, and we went to the top, and as soon as we both got out and it crashed to the bottom."
"Oh well, How many stories is it?" Blaine moved back over to stand in front of Kurt. "Thirty right?"
Kurt nodded picking the bag up, he opened the doors to the stairs and began walking up.
"Kurt, you walk thirty stories when you go out? How do you have enough energy?"
"When I first got here, my brother and I used to run up and down them to get in shape. It made us really tired at first but eventually we got used to it." Kurt looked over the rail to peer up at the stairs above them. Finn had a sweep of the apartments but Kurt could never be so sure.
"Is your brother up there?" Blaine questioned from behind Kurt.
"No."
"Then where is he?"
"He's dead."
Blaine didn't speak for the rest of the walk up. He was behind Kurt but he stayed close. Kurt hated talking about his family. They were all dead.
Fifteen minutes later they made it to the top. Kurt went into the room, not noticing Blaine had stopped at the door. Kurt started putting up the food into the cabinets.
"Blaine are you hungry?" Kurt looked around the room. "Blaine?"
Blaine knocked loudly, which made Kurt scream and fall backwards.
"Shit Blaine you scared me!" Blaine was laughing when Kurt looked up at him, Kurt stood up and huffed. "Aren't you going to come in?" His cheeks were bright red and he was sure Blaine could see them.
"Y-Yeah." Blaine kept laughing until Kurt hit his shoulder.
-
"Do you enjoy stay up here? I mean, I know the worlds ending and everything but still." Blaine sat on the couch next to Kurt, his legs were crossed and his body was turned toward Kurt.
Kurt nodded smiling, "I would have liked to stay here when the world was normal. The view isn't as good as it used to be." Kurt put his head back and starred at the ceiling. "I wish none of this had ever happened."
Blaine took Kurt's hand hesitantly, "Kurt listen to me. There are millions of infecteds and who knows what else out there but there are at least a couple thousand of normals left. You are a normal Kurt." Blaine began to grin. "Kurt you had to strength to stay alive for months, you're really special!"
Kurt frowned, "Do you think the world will ever go back to the way it was?"
Blaine squeezed Kurt's hand softly, "Yes I do Kurt. I'm hoping it does. I really miss gel!" Kurt laughed slightly. "Kurt, me and you are going to make it. Together."
Kurt turned his head toward Blaine and smiled.

Kurt fell asleep that night the words still in his head.
"me and you are going to make it. Together."
