Hi everyone! I hope you had a great Easyer! I wasnt sure I wanted to have the baby so soon after the wedding but I think itll work for the setup of the last few chapters. Theres a bit to it, but Im not going to get too detailed in the next chapter. But since the next chapter has so much to do with this one, Ill have it up as soon as I can... or try to. You know me.
The first dance as a married couple had been done to Come What May from Moulin Rouge. Just as Kurt had always dreamed, that song was somehow incorporated into his wedding.
Having Blaines head on his shoulder, Kurt swayed with his arms around him. With Blaine in his arms, nothing else seemed to matter. It was like the room around them had faded. That is, until the song ended and he had to pull himself back to reality.
Sam and Rachel each gave a toast to the grooms shortly before that. Sams speech started out with jokes and it turned into a heartfelt ordeal that left Blaine in tears. "You are my best friend and I couldnt be happier for you," he finished.
Rachel then stood up, blushing because she told Kurt, "This is embarrassing. Everyones going to be staring at my big stomach, not at me." She then began her speech.
"I remember when I first met Kurt. He was a lonely sophomore that just needed a place to sit in the lunch room. We connected immediately and before I knew it, we were the best Broadway bitches at McKinley. We fought for solos in glee club, and then we grew apart... I was lucky enough to meet Kurt again through Blaine. Suddenly we werent fighting for solos, but we were fighting for the same guy. Kurt won... At first I didnt know how to feel about it. Angry, hurt, bitter... I went through it all. But the beautiful friendship we have helped calm those feelings. We turned into a duet rather than two solos. I began to see how happy Blaine made you, Kurt, and how whole Blaine seemed to feel for the first time since I had known him... I only want whats best for both of you, and I think you guys are going to have a wonderful future together. I love you both so much."
Kurt stood up and gave her a hug. He embraced her for a moment. He was grateful that he had a friend like her. With everything that happened between the three of them, Kurt was lucky to have Rachel around at all.
"May I have this dance?" he asked her, when everyone made their way out to the dance floor, after his dance with Blaine. Kurt placed his arms on Rachels waist and led her into a soft dance that reduced her to tears.
"You know, I really am happy for you," she said quietly, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Im really glad youre here," Kurt kissed the top of her head. "I couldve have done this without you."
As their dance came to a close, Kurt gave Rachel one final hug, before he went to find his husband. He spotted Blaine talking to Wes and David, as he made his way over there. "Having fun?" he smiled.
"Yeah," Blaine nodded. "The guys and I was just reminiscing about our old Warbler days."
"I heard you almost considered coming to Dalton. It!s a shame you didnt. We couldve used you," Wes told Kurt, giving him a warm smile.
Blaine scanned the room and his eyes widened when they landed on the far corner of the room. "Hey, Kurt?" Blaine started. "Why are Savannah and Beatrice here?"
"Ah, that was a surprise. Remember the phone call you tickled me over the other day? It was Beatrice. I didnt want to get your hopes up if she couldnt come, so I called to see what kind of answer I could get without you knowing," Kurt shrugged.
Eyes glistening with admiration, he said. "You are honestly the most wonderful human being," Blaine kissed his husband gently.
"Come on, shes so excited to see you," Kurt took Blaines hand and led him over to the table. He gave Wes and David an apologetic wave. "They arrived in New York this morning."
"Hi, Savannah," Blaine knelt down in front of her chair. Tears already in his eyes.
"Blaine!" Savannah cried, throwing his arms around his neck. She buried her face in his shoulder as sobs wracked her small body.
"I missed you so much," Blaine said softly, rubbing her back.
"I m-missed you t-t-too," she choked out. They embraced for a long moment, and Beatrice smiled at Kurt, whispering, "Thank you. Shes been counting down the days to see him."
"What are you doing here?" Blaine asked, when he pulled away from her. He wiped a tear off her cheek and Savannah smiled.
"Im here for your wedding, of course," Savannah chuckled. "Kurt asked us and we said yes."
"I cant believe you came. Is it okay that shes here?" Blaine turned to Beatrice in concern. "If its too much, she shouldnt have come."
Nodding, Beatrice informed him, "Savannah wanted to give you the news herself."
Savannah blushed, "Im in remission, Blaine!"
"Are you serious?" Blaine almost shouted. Several heads turned in their direction and Savannah giggled.
Beatrice choked out a laugh, "The treatment she went under was tough but, for now, she seems to be in the clear. She came home a couple weeks ago."
"Are you going to move back to New York?" Blaine asked hopefully.
Savannahs face fell and she said, "No. Were going to stay where we are... You know, just in case."
"Ill have to make sure I come visit you sometime," Blaine smiled, brushing her hair behind her ear. "But Im really happy for you and Im happy that youre here."
"Same here," Savannah smiled, leaning in to kiss his cheek. "But I owe a lot to you... You kept me happy for a long time. I couldnt have done it without you."
Tears started up once again, and Blaine scooped Savannah on to his lap and hugged her tightly. "I love you, Savannah."
"I love you too, Blaine," Savannah whispered.
It was so sweet that Kurt felt himself tear up. Wiping his eyes on the sleeve of his shirt, Kurt walked away to give them privacy. He went to a man sitting at a table with his wife and four children.
"If it isnt Will Schuester," Kurt embraced his old teacher. "Emma, its good to see you."
"You too, Kurt," Emma waved.
"Kurt, after watching you struggle through so much in high school, I gotta tell you that Im really proud of you. Im glad you found someone that makes you happy," Will clapped a hand on his shoulder.
"The only time Ill beat Rachel Berry at something, right?" Kurt chuckled.
"Well, from what I understand, you and Rachel have learned to work as a team," Will glanced at Rachel, who was in a discussion with Brittany, Santana, and Quinn. "Im really excited for you guys. Send me a picture when the baby gets here."
"Hard to believe weve all grown up... Seems like just yesterday we were all nobodies in the choir room," Kurt said weakly. "You helped a lot of us grow and follow our dreams, so thank you."
"But youve all grown into wonderful men and women," Will reassured him. "Im glad I could contribute something."
"Not all of us," Kurt mumbled. He so desperately longed for his step-brother. Being here took Kurt back to Burt and Caroles wedding, where Kurt and Finn were united as a family. His brother should have been at his wedding.
Will gave his shoulder a squeeze and said, "Finn would be proud of you."
"Thanks," Kurt whispered, as Will pulled him into another hug.
"Finn would be proud and so would your mom," Burt stepped into their conversation. "Most of all, I couldnt be more proud." He hugged his son and said, "Now go on. The night is young and so are you. Go have some fun." He shoved Kurt toward the dance floor, before indulging in his own conversation with Will.
People made their way out on to the dance floor. Kurt made his rounds. Reminiscing with his friends from high school and getting to know some of the Warblers he could have been friends with. It was a fun night of laughter and dancing.
"Excuse me? Hello, hi," Blaine jumped up on stage and spoke into a microphone some time later. "The old Warbler council and myself have agreed to do a little number for old times sake. I sang with these guys every day and I feel so honored to be reunited with them. So with that being said, this song goes out to my amazing husband, Kurt Anderson-Hummel."
The rest of Blaines friends joined him on stage and they began to sing. Blaine joined in to an old Katy Perry tune called Teenage Dream. The guests around him began to dance, but Kurt stood in the middle of the dance floor, completely transfixed on a pair of hazel eyes...
The night continued with celebration for another hour. Kurt was overjoyed to be surrounded by so many friends and family.
By the time he left with Blaine and went to the hotel they were staying at that night, Kurts heart felt lighter than it ever had before.
"I really love you," he whispered to Blaine, lying next to him in bed. He gently stroked the side of Blaines face, keeping his eyes fixed on his husband.
"I really love you too," Blaine said, climbing on top of him and pressing his lips to Kurts. "Can you believe were married?"
"No," Kurt chuckled. "It doesnt seem real. Its like with the baby. I know Rachels pregnant but the idea of holding my daughter doesnt seem real," Kurt shook his head.
"Im glad its all real," Blaine began. "Im glad youre real." He deepened the kiss, before working his way down to Kurts neck.
Kurts back arched and he groaned with pleasure. "Im glad our l-love is r-real," he breathed. "I cant imagine life without you."
Grinning, Blaine whispered, "Come here, Ill show you just how real my love for you is." And with that, he began kissing Kurt passionately.
The sun was shining on Central Park a couple days later. Kurt, Blaine, Rachel, and Savannah found themselves on a blanket in the middle of a grassy area. Other groups of people laughed and played around them, but they were focused on the picnic spread out before them.
"Im glad were doing this before Savannah leaves tonight," Kurt smiled. As much as he wanted to spend time alone with Blaine after the wedding, it was a hard situation. Rachel was so close to her due date, so they could only make the most of the freedom they had left before the baby came.
"Me too," Savannah said, biting into her peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
"This sure does beat spending hours in that hospital room, huh?" Blaine nudged her with his elbow.
"Yeah, it does," she frowned, setting her sandwich down on her paper plate. A sadness took over her expression that broke Kurts heart.
"Guess what I bought when I got lunch," Blaine asked, sitting forward. He was clearly trying to take her mind off that dreadful place.
"What?" Savannahs head perked up with interest.
Reaching into the basket, Blaine said, "Have you ever flown a kite?" He unfolded a blue kite and Savannahs face lit up with excitement.
"Can we fly it?" she stood up, giving Blaine her best puppy eyes. "Ive never even seen a kite before, only on TV. Can we fly it pleeeease?"
"I bought the thing. Am I really going to say no?" Blaine chuckled. "Here," he unwound the string slightly. "Ill get it up in the air for you and then you can have it."
"Okay," Savannah followed him over to a clear area and watched as Blaine began pacing himself at a slight jog.
"You know, hes going to be a great dad," Rachel said, her hands cradling her large belly. "Hes so good with kids, especially Savannah he really loves her and they work together perfectly."
"Imagine what hell be like with his own little girl," Kurt smiled, as Blaine tripped and nearly toppled over. Savannah started laughing, which caused Blaine to laugh.
"I think shes in good hands," Rachel replied.
Kurt watched as the kite rose high enough for the wind to catch it. Blaine knelt down next to Savannah and showed her how to hold the string. Savannah was so excited to watch her kite that she hardly payed attention, but Blaines efforts were what mesmerized Kurt. "Yeah, I think she is," he answered.
.They watched for a moment, as Blaine let go of the string and Savannah glanced up to make sure her kite was still in the air.
Rachel started sniffing and Kurt glanced in her direction to find tears in her eyes. "Hey, whats wrong?" he scooted closer, wrapping his arm around her waist.
"When I first found out I was pregnant, I hated the idea of a child taking up all my time. I had too much to do..." she glanced down at her stomach. "But now that I gave her up, sometimes I think about how much I could have loved spending time with my child."
"Rachel," Kurt started.
Turning to face him, Rachels voice cracked as she said, "Am I wrong to have regrets? I chose to give her up. Is it wrong to sometimes wish I hadnt?"
"Im sure most mothers go through that," Kurt wiped a tear off her cheek.
"Most of the time, Im okay. But seeing Blaine with this little girl reminds me of the future I used to dream wed have. I always imagined Blaine and I having three kids. Two girls and one boy. And it kind of breaks my heart a little bit."
"Youll still have those days. The first time you hold her. Her first birthday or her first day of school," Kurt informed her. "But you are never going to lose her. I want you to spend as much time with her as you can."
"I know that. You tell me all the time. Its just that..." she hesitated. Looking into her eyes, Rachel confessed, "What if Im not meant to find love?"
"What does that mean?" Kurt raised an eyebrow.
"I really thought I had a bright future with Finn. Even after we broke up, we still knew we were going to be together," Rachel said, her tears flowing more freely. "We were supposed to be together and then he... h-he died and that was it. We were just done, and I was left alone and broken."
"Sweetie," Kurt whispered, taking her hand.
"And then I met Blaine and he saved me," Rachel continued, her voice shaking. "I thought, maybe, we were meant to be together and then... I lost him too." She wiped her eyes on her sleeve and said, "Im afraid that, If I do find someone else, Im going to lose him too. I just... I cant deal with any more heart ache."
"You dont really believe that, do you?" Kurt rubbed his thumb across her knuckles. "You just havent found exactly what you need yet."
"But I did need Finn. He changed me for the better," she hiccuped. "And I needed Blaine to heal my heart. I needed them."
"Youll still find someone else," Kurt promised.
She shrugged, "Maybe thats why I was willing to give up the baby in the first place: I was afraid that Id lose her too." At this, a son escaped her throat, and she leaned forward, burying her face in Kurts shoulder.
Rubbing her back, Kurt comforted her, "its okay to feel upset. You know that the babys coming soon and youre just going through a lot of emotions."
"I dont w-want to regret my decision, because Im happy for you," Rachel pulled back, sniffing.
"Rachel, I understand. I really do," Kurt kissed her cheek. "Everythings going to work out. Youre going to find love again and youre going to have a bright future."
"Thanks, Kurt," she smiled weakly. "I know Ill get through it with your help."
"Youre never going to lose me," he reassured her.
"Come on, Kurt!" Savannah walked over and gave his back a push. "Take a turn with the kite."
"Okay, " he stood up, reaching for Rachels hand. He pulled his friend to her feet and held her hand on their way to Blaine. "Here, Ill let you take a turn first."
"Thanks," Rachel took the string from Blaine. Glancing up at the kite, she let out a deep breath.
"Everything okay?" Blaine whispered, placing his arm on Kurts shoulder.
"Yeah," he replied, watching Rachel with concern. "Yeah, everythings fine."
"Its all in the simple things. Look," Blaine pointed at Rachel, who now had a slight smile on her lips.
"Like simply stating that I love you very much," Kurt turned to face his husband and smiled.
swiftly pecking his lips, Blaine replied, "its music to my ears."
Blaine spent hours pouring over his school books and notes. His exams began and the week dragged on for all of them. Kurt helped Blaine study whenever he had a free moment, and Rachel was now so exhausted that she was becoming irritable.
"I didnt sleep at all last night," Rachel huffed, shuffling into the living room.
"Are you okay?" Kurt asked, watching her closely. Her skin was pale and her walk was slow. "You look terrible."
"Thanks," Rachel grumbled. "Im getting in the... Im getting in the shower. Sam and I are going... out for a while today."
"Is that a date?" Kurt raised an eyebrow.
"What?" Rachel gasped, turning to face him. She straightened her surprised face and her hands fell to her belly. "No, its not a date. Do you think Sam wants all of this?" she gave her belly a gentle pat.
"Theres more to you than pregnancy, Rachel," Kurt offered. "So you better get ready, before your date gets here."
She turned to head toward the bathroom, when Blaine rushed into the living room, bumping into her. "Woah," he steadied Rachel, before adding, "Feeling okay? You look a little..."
"Im fine," she snarled, before moving into the bathroom and slamming the door shut.
Blaine rolled his eyes. "Im so ready for this to be over with. Who knew pregnancy could make someone so crazy."
"Last exams today," Kurt stood up and placed his hands on Blaines shoulders. "At least this will be one less thing to worry about."
"Yeah, Im nervous enough as it is. These are my two toughest and theyre back to back," Blaine shook his head. "Ill be gone for a good three and a half to four hours, so try not to need me, because my phone will be off."
"I always need you," Kurt blushed.
"Same here," Blaine kissed him swiftly. "Love you."
"Love you. Good luck," Kurt replied, as Blaine bolted for the door, nearly forgetting to grab his backpack.
About twenty minutes later, Blaine sent Kurt a text message saying: Made it just in time... Wish me luck.
"Good luck!" Kurt replied.
A knock came on the front door and Kurt answered, "Hi Sam."
"Hey, is Rachel ready to go?" Sam entered the apartment, looking around for her..
"Yes!" She squeaked, appearing in the doorway with a pink summer dress on. "Well, actually, can we hang out here? Im really tired."
"Yeah, sure," Sam nodded.
"Have fun!" Kurt answered. He headed out the door and made it to work a short while later. He was just getting involved with a project, when his phone rang. He saw Rachels name appear on the screen and answered without hesitation.d"Can you come home?" she breather. Her voice was weak..
"Whats wrong?" Kurt clambered from his seat, knocking over a cup of pens. "I thought you were with Sam."
"I... changed my mind. Please, Kurt?" she sounded desperate. "Its important."
"Is it the baby?" he asked in fear.
"I... Maybe," she breathed.
"Ill be right there," Kurt grabbed his satchel and headed into Isabelles office. "Im having a little bit of a family crisis. Im leaving."
"Okay," she nodded. Kurt had explained his situation to her, so she had to know it was related to the baby. She added, "Call me later and let me know what you need, okay? If you need time off, its yours."
Hailing a cab, Kurt made it to the apartment in fifteen minutes. He shot Blaine a text message, but he was positive that his phone was off.
The whole ride home, he panicked. If the baby was coming, was he ready for it? If something was wrong, was he prepared to deal with that. "Come on," he grumbled, wishing traffic would move faster.
"Rachel?" he called, when he entered the apartment.
"Kurt," her strained voice could be heard from the bathroom.
Entering the bathroom, he found her sitting on the floor, leaning against the sink. Tears streamed down her face and she clutched her large belly hopelessly. "I didnt know what to do," she cried.
He knelt down beside her, placing a hand on her stomach, "are you having contractions?"
Tipping her head back, she groaned, "Yes... Every... Ahhh." She waited a moment, until it was over, before looking at him. "Every twelve minutes or so."
"How long has this been going on?" Kurt was alarmed.
"Since last night. I... Uh, I knew it was too soon to worry about it. They were irregular and I thought it mightve been intense Braxton Hicks contractions," Rachel squirmed uncomfortably. "But they grew closer and stronger before I was with Sam."
"Is he aware that he left you alone in labor? Why didnt you tell us?" Kurt said stlightly frustrated that she hadnt mentioned something before he left the apartment.
"I thought I had time earlier this morning. It was, like, fifteen minutes. And then I had a really strong one after I went to the bathroom, so I told him I wanted to shower and take a nap, so he left... The bathroom floor was as far as I got before another one hit," Rachel rubbed circles on her belly. More tears rolled down her cheeks, and she said, "We still had time, Kurt. What if somethings wrong? Im... Im not ready for this. I cant give birth."
Kurt ran a hand over his face and said, "Let me call, Carole. I dont know if we should go to the hospital now." He dialed Caroles phone and pulled Rachels body close to him, stroking her hair.
"Im scared," Rachel whispered, burying her face in his shoulder. She trembled slightly in his arms.
"Me too," he admitted.
Caroles phone went to voicemail and Kurt swore. He tried his dad and it also went to voicemail. "Why is no one answering their damn phone," he said desperately.
"Ahhh... K-Kurt!" Rachel gripped his hand tightly. Breathing heavily, Rachels body tensed in his arms. The contraction lasted longer than the first, and Rachels breath became short and labored. When it was over, she fell limp in his arms.
"That was more like eleven minutes," Kurt stated. "Rachel, I think we need to get to the hospital." Kurt rose to his feet and placed either hand under her arms. He pulled Rachel to her feet and steadied her as she swayed on the spot.
"Need to get... shoes on," she said weakly. "I took them off when I got home."
"Right," Kurt guided her into the bedroom and helped lower her on to the edge of the bed. "Where are your shoes?"
"Closet," she hissed, as she pulled out her phone and started typing. "Have you heard from Blaine? Ive been texting him."
"No," Kurt knelt down in front of Rachel and shoved her swollen feet into her shoes. "He couldnt have his phone on during the exam."
"When will he be done?" Rachel asked, setting her phone on the bed next to her.
"Two and a half hours," Kurt bit his lip nervously. If only there was a way to reach Blaine...
"I cant do this without him," Rachel shook her head fiercely. "I need Blaine."
Kurt took Rachels hands in his and reassured her, "Hell be done before she gets here. But we cant sit around and wait. This baby is coming whether youre ready or not."
Narrowing her eyes, Rachel nodded, "Youre right. We should go."
Kurt placed his arm underneath her and led her to the living room. She stopped, so he could grab her bag. "Do you have everything?" he asked.
"M-my phones in the bedroom," she breathed.
Kurt went back to the room, scooped up Rachels phone, his phone charger, his wallet, and began groping in Blaines night stand where he swore his phone charger was. He couldnt find it. "Come on," he grumbled. Blaine would need it and Kurt wanted to make sure it was there for him.
When he went back into the living room, after finding Blaines charger, Kurt found Rachel doubled-over, gripping the kitchen counter with one hand and clutching her belly with the other. He rushed to her side and she clasped his hand in a grip so tight, he thought his fingers might break. Breathing swiftly, Rachel scrunched up her face in pain. "Oooh... that really hurt."
"Is it over?" Kurt asked, stretching his fingers.
"Y-yeah," she gasped, straightening up. Rubbing her belly, she said, "That was still eleven minutes."
"Come on," Kurt placed his arm around her once more, and guided her to the door. He picked up her hospital bag on the way out.
Guiding her down the stairs, It took a moment before they reached the street. He held tightly to her as he hailed a cab. Once a cab pulled up, Kurt ushered her inside and said, "we need to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
Rachel arched her back and let out a groan, "Oh, here, it comes again." She reached for Kurts hand and gripped it tightly.
What have I gotten myself into? kurt thought.
With his free hand, he dialed Blaines number again and got no reply. Shooting him a new text message, Kurt said: DAMN IT BLAINE ANDERSON ANSWER YOUR PHONE. WERE HAVING A BABY.
