His body lay there peacefully, and looked as though he were sleeping in pure bliss. The only things that brought Kurt back to reality were the oxygen mask, IV, and hospital surroundings.
As he sunk down into the hard bedding, he recapped all that had happened within the last six hours. After the doctor told him he'd be paralyzed, Kurt began to react dramatically. Once he calmed himself down, the doctor explained to him that he would only be temporarily paralyzed, and they would have to wait until the x-ray results came back to predict how long he would need handi-capable assistance for getting around.
Kurt got the basics of the accident and what happened to him, but he couldn't remember the large words and formalities of his condition. What he knew was that he had a compression fracture caused by his body being jerked sideways roughly against his seatbelt. The good thing about having a compression fracture to his back was that he needed no surgery, and his back would be healed after a large amount of bed rest, medication, and back bracing. Aside from his spinal injury, Kurt had a minor concussion and a couple of bruises near his neck and shoulders.
He would be out of the hospital within the next week.
Blaine, however, was undetermined.
After the doctor, whom Kurt discovered was named Dr. Boyd, explained to Kurt his condition, he began to go into more details of his boyfriend's.
Kurt found out that after Blain was hit head-on by the large truck, his brain suffered such impact that it developed a lack of oxygen not long after Blain was left unconscious. Nobody knew how long he would be stable or how long he would be in the coma. It was something that no one could ever determine. Kurt learned that lesson with his father within the past year.
Apart from his coma, Blain only had a broken shoulder and a few stitches on his right temple.
"Do you know what happened," Kurt asked, "as far as the actual events in the accident?"
Dr. Boyd nodded his head enthusiastically, which frightened the young brunette in the hospital bed.
"Well," the doctor started, "it was no surprise to authorities that the driver appeared to be drunk of his ass."
Kurt laughed at the doctor's attempt at humor. Dr. Boyd knew that the only way his patients would smile was if he used some of his witty remarks.
"What happened with him?" Kurt asked.
"He got a few scratches, but nothing major," he continued. "So, after he left here earlier, he was taken to the police station a few blocks away."
"Good," Kurt nodded, wincing as the pain from his upper back kicked in.
"I'm really sorry for your loss, by the way."
Kurt's memory finally kicked in when he realized he was talking about the funeral and Carole. "It's okay. Thank you for your concern."
After Kurt thought about the results of the day, he let his head fall back against the pillow, still looking at Blaine.
"Blaine," Kurt whimpered, feeling the water from his eyes begin to swell again. "Baby, can you hear me?"
There was no response. Kurt knew there wouldn't be.
"Baby, if you can hear me somewhere in that beautiful head of yours, listen to me," Kurt began. "Honey, you've got to pull through here. I know you're going to be okay no matter what happens, but you've got to try. Try, Blaine, for me. I need you here to comfort me, I need your warm body pressed against mine again, and, most importantly, I need my lover back. I know you can't feel me or see me, but please hear me. Please, Blaine, baby, wake up!"
After Kurt's sobbed and emotional speech finished, he declined his bed as he prepared for bed.
"I love you, Blaine," he said, closing his eyes, "and I always will."

After two weeks of being stuck in the hospital, doing daily therapy sessions and medicating heavily for a quick recovery, Kurt Hummel still found himself stuck. The only difference from today and yesterday was that he wasn't a patient. He was a visitor.
Blaine still had not yet awoken from his coma, and this worried Kurt. Of course his father was comatose, but it was only for the duration of a week and a half.
When Kurt was released yesterday, the doctor explained to him that he would need to wear the heavy, but barely visible, back brace for at least a month. Above all things, Kurt was grateful to get out with just that. He had seen all of the trouble it was for Artie. Heck, the glee club even experimented with wheel chairs for an assignment they did two years ago. Remembering the trouble he had during rehearsals of "Proud Mary", he knew that if he needed to use a wheelchair for the duration of his life, it would take a lot of getting used to.
Burt had signed the discharge papers for his son, and when prompted to leave, Kurt refused. It was a shame that no one besides Kurt's family, the New Directions, and Warblers had only come to see him. Not one member of Blaine's family came to see him, even though they received a phone call as soon as it happened.
Blaine was right, Kurt thought. His family really didn't care about him.
That was the reason why Kurt stayed. It was the only thing that had him one foot out the door and the other in his prescience.
Though it was a huge pain for him to sit in the stiff arm chair beside his boyfriend's bed, Kurt managed to bring memory foam pillows so they could help him. He remembered how much Blaine enjoyed the pillows when he stayed the night at Kurt's last month. That's why he went out of his way to buy him a pillow, for when he woke up, he could give it to him.
The doctors understood Kurt's desire to cling to Blaine, so they extended his visiting hours. It was eleven o'clock at night, and the only sounds in the room were Blaine and Kurt's breathing, the beeping of his heart monitor, and the sound of his breath pump rising and falling dramatically.
Kurt bent over and cupped the curly-haired brunette's cheek. He leant in and pressed a soft kiss to his boyfriend's forehead, a tear escaping the confines of his eyes. He was startled when he heard a cough, obviously intended to interrupt Kurt's action.
When he turned around, he came face to face with the short man known as Blaine's father.
"So, you must be Kurt," Mr. Anderson said. "I've heard so much about you."
