As Blaine drove his truck to the nearest Block Buster store, Kurt reached towards the stereo system to flip through the channels. After scanning what seemed to be just white noise, Kurt finally decided on a soul station. Blaine always knew that Kurt loved Aretha Franklin, thanks to his friend Mercedes, so it wasn't a surprise that when "Ain't No Way" came on, his boyfriend stopped to listen to it.

Kurt began to sing along to the lyrics in a gentle whisper whilst laying his head on his boyfriend's shoulder. As the truck came to a red light on the corner of the street. Kurt lifted his chin on the top of Blaine's shoulder, making Blaine turn his head. Hazel eyes met glass as they sung the chorus of the song. Kurt brushed their noses together in an Eskimo kiss as he whispered, "You are my life. I love you so much."

Blaine cupped Kurt's cheek in his hand and claimed his lips in a tight, but loving, kiss. They heard a car horn sound from outside the truck, breaking the two apart. Blaine realized that the light had turned green, so he hit the gas.
Everything happened so quickly. As the car jolted forward, Kurt's chin remained on Blaine's shoulder. As he looked out of the window on Blaine's side, his heart stopped. There was a blinding flashing light, and then complete darkness.

Kurt awoke in the hospital, the smell of pungent bleach stinging his nose. The lights hanging above his head seemed to blind him as he squinted his eyes. His head hurt so much, everything did. He turned his head to see another bed next to his. In it lay Blaine. His face was so bruised up and there were large cuts on his forehead, which were stitched together. There was a white bandage wrapped around the young boy's forehead accompanied with a large red stain that appeared to be blood.

Kurt's breaths became short, audible gasps. He started to panic. He needed to see if Blaine was okay, but when he tried to get up, he couldn't. He couldn't move his legs or hips, but he could move his arms.

Kurt screamed loudly with the gurgling of his cries. His tears overwhelmed his face, making the scars and bruises shine.

His father ran into the room with two nurses and Finn. Rachel peeked in through the glass frame with Mercedes and one other doctor. Their faces were covered with tears and sadness.

"What is going on?" Kurt screamed. "Why can't I move? What happened? I need Blaine!" Kurt screamed in a rant, reaching towards his other half in the hospital bed next to him.

"Son, calm down," Burt said, grabbing the younger boy's hand. "I'm here, we're all here."

"Tell me what the fuck is going on!" Kurt said straight to the doctor with a clip board in his hand.

He took off the glasses that were perched on his nose and walked over to Kurt, kneeling down to be at face-to-face level with him.

"You got in a car accident around five hours ago, "the doctor said. "An eighteen-wheeler rammed into the side of your friend's truck."

"Just tell me what happened to Blaine," Kurt said.

"You friend suffered from major blood loss and a lack of oxygen to the brain," the doctor said. "I'm afraid to say that Blaine is in a coma."

Kurt's whole world stopped spinning. A coma? Like his dad had? His eyes began to fill with tears as he looked over to the still, but breathing, body in the next hospital bed.

"My baby," Kurt wept.

"He'll be fine," the doctor continued, "but I'm afraid-"

"You don't know when he's going to wake up," Kurt finished.

"I'm afraid so," the doctor nodded.

"Son," Burt said, "don't you want to know what happened to you?"

With all of the pain of seeing his beloved, Kurt had forgotten that he couldn't move.

"When the truck flipped," the doctor said, "the impact fractured your spinal column."

"Does this mean that I'm paralyzed?" Kurt asked.

"I'm afraid so-"the doctor said, but was caught off.

"Why do you keep saying 'afraid'? I'm the one who should be afraid of anything, goddamnit! I need my Blaine!" Kurt screamed, uncontrolling his words. He didn't care how much sense he made while he was talking.

Everything was going to change.
