Kurt stood at his locker staring at the photograph of Blaine. The word 'Courage' was still underneath. Every time Kurt looked at it he ached. The pain and longing on his face was obvious. Kurt stood alone until Rachel appeared from behind the locker door.
"Kurt, are you okay?" She said full of concern.
"What...?" Kurt said, he was lost in his own world of memories for a moment "Uh-yeah I'm fine" he said with an empty smile.
"Kurt..." She said pausing for a while, unsure of if she should finish her sentence. "When was the last time you heard from him?" She said very, very quickly.
Kurt just looked at her, coldly and unsure of his answer. He hadn't heard from Blaine in months, but it's hard to send mail isn't it? And he hadn't heard any... bad news, if anything happened to him they'd be in touch, right?
"You have to consider the possibility that he might not come back.." She said putting an arm on his shoulder. She didn't want to have this conversation with him, but she had too.
"I know he's coming back" He said simply. The words were very strong, as if they were fact.
"Bu-" Rachel was cut off by Kurt's words.
"He promised." he said choking on his words. Doubt was running through his mind making his eyes glossy. He hoped Rachel didn't notice as he shrugged and walked away. He made his way to an empty classroom. He chose a chair in the corner, out of sight. He sat, put his head on the desk and cried. He missed Blaine. He was scared. What if Rachel was right, what if he never came back? His sobs were audible now as Rachel walked into the room.
"Kurt, I'm sorry... H-he's probably fine" She stumbled over her words. "it's just we haven't heard anything in so long" she sighed, sitting next to him, rubbing his back.
"I know he's alive" Kurt said looking at her. He was so sure.
"Y-you don't know that... I-i-i just want you to be-"
"I know." Kurt said slightly bitter toward her.
"How?" She said softly.
"I-i-if her were d-d-d-dead I'd, I'd feel it." He said stuttering as if he didn't want to say the words. Rachel sighed and looked at him. His eyes were puffy and tired. He hadn't been himself all week.
"Kurt..." She said hugging him. "I think you already felt it." Kurt broke down in her arms.
"I know" he sobbed. For the past week he felt empty, alone, cold.
Blaine wasn't coming back.
