The city was unusually quiet when Kurt's eyes fluttered open, blinking blearily up at the ceiling. Blaine slept beside him, snoring softly, his arms crossed under his pillow and his face turned towards Kurt, his mouth open and smooshed cutely. It wasn't till Kurt pushed back the covers and stepped out of the bed that the cold hit him, his body shivering as his bare feet hit the wood floor. He stood, rubbing his arms to try and bring some heat to his body, and walked over to the large window that was in their room. It was covered by a dark curtain that on the brightest days cast a light blue glow around the room. He reached out his hand, pulled the material to the side, and looked out of the window.
Kurt began to smile, a lazy, casual smile, but a happy one. The streets outside were enveloped in a blanket of white snow, the only interruption being the deep tracks set by cabs and cars. Snow was still falling at the early hour, drifting leisurely down, covering balconies of the apartment across from Kurt and Blaine's and drifting onto window ledges.
It was a beautiful sight and Kurt was till smiling as he climbed back into bed, having let the curtain fall shut. The room was bathed in blue again, darkening what had been lit up by the white outside. Kurt burrowed under the comforter, pulling it up to his chin for warmth. He didn't have to go into Vogue this morning, or afternoon even, and Blaine didn't have classes till later on and Kurt planned on using this time wisely—yet unproductively. He hadn't had a good lazy morning for a while and it felt great to be able to cuddle into the soft, silky sheets and warmth of the blankets and Blaine.
Blaine hadn't moved since Kurt got up, except maybe for a slight shift of his legs. He was still out, mouth still open and pressed against the pillow awkwardly, so innocent and vulnerable. Kurt's stomach swooped as he looked over at him, warmth spreading through his limbs as he watched the shift of his bare back that wasn't concealed by the blanket that was pushed down to his hips. It's been around 4 years since Kurt and Blaine had actually begun sharing a bed to actually wake up with each other in the morning. In those 4 years, they've seen the good and the bad, yet Kurt still felt butterflies in his stomach when he woke before Blaine and was able to think on the fact that he'd be waking up next to Blaine for the rest of his life. And since they moved into their own apartment a few months ago, the butterflies had just gotten worse, filling his stomach and up his throat till he was almost buzzing with the not-so-newness of the situation. He still felt like the giddy high-schooler in Lima who couldn't believe he had gotten Blaine to sleep in his bed, drunk or not. He thought that the feeling would go away sometime, but he wasn't really looking forward to the day when he didn't get happy-dizzy over the fact that Blaine was his, and only his.
Blaine snuffled, rubbing his nose against his pillow, still asleep. Kurt grinned, shifting till he was on his side, his elbow propping him up. A sleeping Blaine was just as beautiful as the sight of the snow in the city. Kurt didn't understand how he could get through a day of living with Blaine who could look so angelic in sleep, but so devilish awake with his big brown eyes and smiles that sent warmth swooping through his stomach. Without really thinking, Kurt had reached out a hand and laid it gently against Blaine's back. Blaine's nose scrunched, a long shiver rippling under Kurt's touch, muscles flexing as he moved. Kurt hadn't thought about the fact that his hand could have been cold, but it couldn't have been too bad since Blaine stayed asleep.
Kurt's fingers traced up the line of Blaine's spine, drawing circles and hearts along his shoulder blades, sliding down till it met the blanket. His muscles twitched, moved, stretched as Blaine began to move again. Kurt should have felt bad about disturbing him, but sometimes he just wanted to marvel in Blaine, and nothing really stopped him. Blaine groaned slightly, and Kurt stopped his fingers' movements, and instead spread his fingers out across his lower back. Leaning over, he placed his lips against the lightly tanned skin. Then he kissed up his ribs and shoulder blades and along his broad shoulders. He stopped when Blaine's breath hitched, a smile pulling across his lips. Long fingers threaded into Blaine's messy curls, pressed down from where they had been pressed into the pillow sometime during the night. Kurt worried his bottom lip between his teeth as he ran his hands through the soft mop of hair over and over again, gently, like he would a child. He pulled on curls softly and watched them bounce back into place, reveled in the look of the dark brown against his pale skin.
This was all his, and Kurt took his time to absorb it as much as he could. Mornings like this where he stayed in bed and just watched Blaine, nights where he was pushing Blaine onto the bed where he'd spend half the night just kissing and running hands over skin. He took total advantage over the fact that they lived alone and Blaine knew it.
Blaine's lips parted, breathing out a gentle sigh. “Mmh, good morning, baby,” Kurt whispered softly as Blaine's eyes fluttered. His full, pinks lips went from their slackened state to a small, sleepy smile that Kurt couldn't help but kiss.
“Mmh,” Blaine mumbled against Kurt's lips, eyes still drooping down. He stretched out his legs before he turned onto his back, draping a hand across his stomach. He looked over at Kurt, his brown eyes watching him for a moment, half-lidded. “How long have you been up…?”
“Just a little bit,” Kurt said, leaning towards Blaine and once more carding his fingers through his hair. “I'm sorry I woke you, go back to sleep.”
Blaine muttered something that Kurt missed and Kurt just kissed him softly on the lips. “…with me?”
Kurt nodded, knowing what Blaine was asking. For him to lay down with him and Kurt would happily oblige. He had his fun and if he was lucky, Blaine would be awake the next time he woke up. “Hush,” he whispered, snuggling under the blanket and up against Blaine's side. It was pressed warm against his stomach, the rise and fall moving against his body. A drowsy grin slid across Kurt's face as he threaded his fingers with Blaine's that was resting on his stomach, “Hmm, I love you.”
The only answer he got in return was a soft snore.
