It wasn’t that Kurt was unable to hold himself back, it was just that, when Blaine was all cozy in his scarf and hat and fluffy coat with his glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, he couldn’t help himself.
They were meeting at the library, so they could walk through Lima to see all of the lights set up on the houses, as Christmas was right around the corner.
Kurt jogged and threw himself into Blaine’s arms, tugging him close and taking in his presence, the smell of soap and cologne, so familiar but still so pleasant.
“Well, it’s good to see you too, Kurt,” Blaine said as he pulled from their embrace to kiss the tip of Kurt’s nose.
Kurt giggled in response, a high pitched, beautiful noise in Blaine’s ears. “You look so cute all cuddled up,” Kurt’s eyes became wide and he bit his lower lip.
Blaine’s blush was enough to relax Kurt’s nerves, so he took Blaine’s hand in his own,and tugged him down the street to where the lights began.
Blaine was in a trance, his eyes focused on the twinkling strings. Kurt couldn’t notice the lights less, though. He thought he would really get into the whole thing, but he couldn’t stop staring at Blaine. The way his face lit up when he spotted a new fixture, a giant snow globe or a fancy set of lights.
But that was okay. Kurt was having just as good of a time looking at Blaine as Blaine was having looking at the lights, squeezing Kurt’s hand every time he found a new and fascinating sight.
An hour and a half into their walk, Blaine looked over to find Kurt staring at him, in a dreamy state, a smile on his face so big that the corners of his eyes were crinkled.
A smile grew across his own face, as Kurt pulled them into a tight embrace and Blaine rested his head under Kurt’s chin.
“I love seeing you so excited. It’s adorable.” Kurt whispered.
Blaine sighed in satisfaction.
“You know, we don’t have to keep walking around here if you aren’t really feeling it.” Blaine suggested.
“No! You’re having a good time and that’s all that matters,” Kurt ran his hand around Blaine’s hat and down his back, stopping at the hem of his coat before slipping his hand into Blaine’s back pocket, gently squeezing through the fabric.
Blaine wiggled a little at the pressure of Kurt’s hand, uncurling from their hug and pecking a kiss onto the side of Kurt’s mouth.
They began walking again, Kurt refusing to take his hand from its place.
But Blaine didn’t mind, it made it seem like Kurt was telling the world that Blaine was his, and he actually kind of enjoyed that.
“Well, why don’t we just visit a few more houses, and then head back to my place?” Blaine offered, “I make a mean hot chocolate.”
Kurt’s eyebrows went up, “How could I ever resist hot chocolate? Especially from such a cute boy,” he winked.
Blaine’s mouth scrunched to one side, delighted and embarrassed.
They made their way to Blaine house, humming classic Christmas songs and laughing when one of them went off-key or hummed the wrong part of the harmony.
Kurt settled himself on the couch in Blaine’s living room, tugging blankets and curling up inside of them while Blaine made their hot chocolate.
Blaine came in with the drinks, steaming and making the whole room smell chocolatey.
“Come snuggle?” Kurt pleaded.
Blaine obliged, setting the mugs on the coffee table and crawling in the blankets, Kurt seizing the opportunity to wrap his arms around Blaine to pull him in quicker.
Kurt was sitting sideways, his legs spread to give room for Blaine, whose shoulder and back were pressed against his chest.
They sipped their drinks slowly, letting the warmth spread through them with each gulp.
“Mmm s’good,” Kurt said sleepily.
“I told you. I am awesome at making hot chocolate. It might be the only thing I’m good at, but I take pride in it!” Blaine joked.
“No, Blaine! You’re good at plenty!” Kurt was beginning to slur his words, lulled by the soft hum of the furnace and warm from the hot chocolate. “Like kissing.”
Blaine smiled, knowing that, had Kurt been fully alert, he wouldn’t have said that.
“Oh, am I?” he responded, and then kissed Kurt, full on the lips, something he had been itching to do all evening.
Kurt’s eyelids snapped open before he closed them all the way, placing both of his hands on Blaine’s cheeks.
“Yes,” Kurt smiled, now fully awake, “Very good.”
Blaine quickly placed the mugs back on the table, and turned so he was facing Kurt, their legs wrapped around eachother.
“Are you…are you sure, about that?” Blaine asked teasingly as he wrapped his arms around the back of Kurt’s neck.
Kurt rolled his eyes, amused and annoyed and turned on all at the same time, but he played along.
“Maybe. You know, I just- I might need to really test it out. I was in a bit of a haze when I made the claim in the first place.”
Blaine kissed Kurt again, slowly this time, tightening his arms around Kurt and closing the small gap between their bodies.
Kurt placed his hands on either side of Blaine’s waist and tugged lightly, urging Blaine to sit even closer, which was almost physically impossible.
“Kurt, if I get any closer I think I’m going to be sitting inside of you!” Blaine’s joke took Kurt by slight surprise, the statement meaning two different things in each boy’s head.
“Hmm, I don’t really think I’d mind that,” Kurt said with a smile onto Blaine lips.
Blaine snapped his head back quickly, “Oh shit that’s not what I- sorry, it came out that way, but I-” he gave up, laughing uncomfortably at the misunderstanding.
“I know it’s not what you meant! Relax, it was a joke, Blaine, my goodness.”
Blaine’s face turned red, and he fell back with a plop on the couch, covering his face with his hands.
Kurt crawled on top of him, knees by Blaine’s hips and hands by Blaine’s face.
“C’mon, it was a joke! A harmless and slightly awkward joke,” Kurt kissed the place where both of Blaine’s hands met.
Blaine uncovered his still-red-with-embarrassment-face, a smile spreading across his lips at the sight of Kurt’s so close to him. He wrapped his arms around Kurt’s waist, offering his body as a place to lay.
Kurt rested his head on Blaine’s chest and placed his hand on Blaine’s shoulder, using his index finger to trace small circles that sent a shiver down Blaine’s spine.
After a few long moments, Kurt raised his head and looked at Blaine, simply admiring the serene look that he wore.
“You’re gorgeous,” Kurt breathed out, ducking his head back down to kiss the line of Blaine’s jaw.
Blaine smiled and closed his eyes, tugging at a blanket that was scrunched at their legs back up to cover them.
“I love you,” Blaine said, eyes still shut, like it was a simple fact.
“I love you too,” Kurt responded, and laid his cheek on Blaine’s chest, nestling the top of his head under Blaine’s chin, and closed his eyes.
They slept together that night, in the most harmless sense of the word, and woke up in each others’ arms the next morning, holding tight, and still not wanting to let go.
