Burt, if someone were to ask him, and he would give them an honest answer, never believed he would be in the scene he was in now.

Not so much because his son was gay, although that was part of it, but because he never saw his son as one who would be a dad. He always imagined that Kurt would go off to New York (like he did) , get on Broadway (which he did) and live the life of a single, non-child having person. Of course, in retrospect, Burt also knew this line of thought was ridiculous. At least the being single part. Kurt liked to plan weddings when he was a little kid. He once planned a wedding for two neighborhood dogs who had had puppies together when he was 10 years old.

But, as it turned out, Burt would be proven wrong of his theory six years after Kurt left Lima. It was four years after he left that the single life theory was thrown out the window, and then five and a half years after he left, that the non-child having theory went right along with it. There he was, watching his son chase after his two year old granddaughter, while Blaine watched from the bench under the tree in the back yard, a smile and a look of amusement on his face. Finn was sitting with him on the porch, holding his second child in his arms, while Rachel was pushing her daughter on the swings. Carole was inside making a meal and chatting with Rachel's dads. This was the perfect Father's Day, and Burt couldn't believe he was lucky enough to be experiencing it. Kurt would say 'You should feel more lucky that you are ALIVE to see it.'. He would never let him forget it either. But that wouldn't be a problem. Burt would never forget all the things his so had done for him.

"Hey dad!" Kurt appeared suddenly on the porch, holding a squirming, but giggling, little girl, Eliza, in his arms.

"Hey there kiddo. Hey there Eliza."

"Granpa Burp!" Eliza squealed, struggling to get down. Burt laughed at this. She'd called him Granpa Burp since she was one, unable to say Burt. He didn't mind at all. He thought it was cute.

"Now Eliza, we talked about this. His name is Burt. Not Burp." Kurt said to his daughter. She just looked back up at him , her curious big blue eyes smiling.

" I don't mind Kurt, don't worry." Burt replied, holding out his arms. Kurt quirked an eyebrow at him.

"You sure? She's a bit hyper. Finn," Kurt shot a look at his step brother. "Gave her a cookie."

"Hey! I said I was sorry!" Finn defended. Kurt rolled his eyes.

"I'm sure Kurt. Besides, your husband over there looks a little lonely. Go spend some time with him." Kurt laughed when he saw Blaine. He was now pretending to read a book, but the book was upside down, and he was peeking over the top of it.

"Alright, I think I shall do just that. Now Eliza, be good for Grandpa okay?" Eliza nodded as fast as her blonde, curly head of hair could and smiled at him. Kurt walked over to the bench and sat down next to Blaine, placing a quick kiss on his cheek and smiling at him. "Hey there." he said.

"Hey. Eliza seems to be having a good time." Blaine replied , putting his arm around his husband's shoulders.

"Yeah. Except she's still calling my dad 'Granpa Burp'. Stop laughing Blaine, it's not that funny." Kurt admonished, but he was smiling none the less.

"Yes it is. Kurt she's two years old."

" I could say my dad's name perfectly when I was two apparently."

"Of course you could." Blaine said, rolling his eyes. This earned him a playful smack on his shoulder from his spouse. " Look, Kurt, it's perfectly normal. Don't worry. Our daughter is fine." Kurt stopped his back and forth with his eyes, from his husband to his kid. "Something wrong?" Blaine asked, his expression concerned.

"No, no. Quite the opposite." Kurt looked at him, his eyes beginning to brim with tears.

"The tears seem to say otherwise..."

"No, these are happy tears . I just... I never thought that I would be here. In my dad's back yard, on Father's Day, watching my dad play with my kid, sitting here with my husband. Having...a perfect life. And I am. It's like...I don't know. But it's wonderful. I love this. I love you." Blaine smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek.

" I love you too. Happy Father's Day Kurt."

"Happy Father's Day Blaine."

The End
