A child Kurt was sitting in his family friends house, being forced to play with the kids, they were playing with power rangers. Kurt was given the pink and the yellow ones because they were the girls. He didn't mind because they were his favorites, he liked being the girls because he always considered himself part of the girls even though he was a boy. His friend's mom wasn't telling him much, he wanted to go home and be with his mom and dad but they weren't here and he didn't know where they were. He would've gone by now, he would've gone hours ago and his mom would've picked him up but she hadn't shown. He felt like something was wrong but he wasn't to know that things were in fact very wrong and his life was about to change dramatically.
Kurt was playing with the boy, his name was Toby when there was a knock at the door. He excitedly got up and ran to it, he was looking forward to seeing his mom because she had promised to help him paint his picture. He fixed his bowtie and tried to look as presentable for his mom as he could, smiling at the woman who was looking after him as she opened the door with a sad look. Kurt's face was confused when he saw his dad there instead of his mom, he did love his dad but he was looking forward to the time with his mom.
"Dad? Where's mom?" Kurt asked, craning his neck to look up at his dad.
"She's not here Kurt. Come on, we got to go." Burt said sadly, trying to usher Kurt out of the door. When they were walking to the car, Kurt began feeling more strange, something really was wrong.
"Dad, where is mom? She promised she was coming to pick me up, she promised to help me with my drawing." Kurt tugged on his dads sleeve. "I want mom."
"Kurt!" His dad snapped, Kurt sunk back and put his head down. Burt sighed and crouched down to Kurt's level. "We're going to go and see her now. But..." How the hell was he going to tell his son that his mom was dead? "This will be the last time you see her Kurt."
Kurt's face was confused, he felt a pang in his chest which he didn't know what it was. The last time he saw his mom? What did that mean? She lived with them, they were happy. "Why? I want my mom. I want mom to come home with us."
This brought tears to Burt's eyes, this was so horrible and he just wanted everything to freeze and go back in time. "Kurt... your mom... she died."
This was the moment when Kurt's world crashed down around him, he was eight, he can't have lost his mom already. People don't lose their parents until they're really old. Kurt shook his head vigorously, refusing to believe what he just heard. His mom can't be dead, she can't, she was fine that morning. "Mommy's dead?" Kurt said in a broken voice.
"Yes Kurt. I'm so sorry." Burt said, he went to pick Kurt up and carry him to the car but Kurt backed off. "Kurt, we need to get going. If we don't get to the hospital soon, you won't be able to say goodbye to your mom."
"Have I been bad? Is that why God took her away?" Kurt asked quietly, taking his dads hand. This was the day that Kurt stopped believing in God.
"What?" Burt was a bit stunned to hear that question, Kurt thought it was his fault? No, he wasn't at fault at all. "No! Kurt, you've not been bad, you're the best son I could ask for. This wasn't your fault."
"Can I see mommy?" Kurt looked up at his dad, the look in Kurt's eyes broke Burt's heart, no parent should have to tell their child this. Burt nodded and led Kurt to the car and helped him get strapped in. They drove to the hospital in silence, both of the Hummel men not knowing what to do but what Kurt did know was that from now on he was going to take good care of his dad, he wasn't going to lose him too.
When they arrived Burt helped Kurt out of the car and led him inside of the hospital and to the room where Elizabeth Hummel lay. Kurt walked to her side and took her hand, his other stroking her hair.
"Mommy? It's Kurt, wake up please?" Kurt squeezed on her hand, tears falling down his delicate cheeks. "It's Kurtie, come on mommy, you promised to help with my drawing, we need to paint it."
Burt's heart was completely shattered, he hated seeing Kurt like this and not knowing what he could do. "Kurt, she's not going to wake up. She's gone."
"No! She can't be gone. I love mom, you can't take away someone you love, that's just mean." Kurt cried. This was the day that Kurt learned that the world was a cruel and mean place
"She loves you too but she's not coming back Kurt. It's just you and me now."
Kurt looked down at his mom again, still stroking her hair. After a few silent minutes he spoke. "She looks like an angel, she's so pretty." He said as he looked as his mom's almost unmarked face, all her injuries were internal or on the rest of her body except for a little cut on her head.
"She is an angel now, she's the most beautiful angel up there in the sky. She's going to watch down on you and guide all the good stuff to you."
Elizabeth was sat at the table, pushing a plate of shaped toast to her little son, Kurt. She had the most beautiful son in the world, he had the most gorgeous eyes and the most incredible personality, he was so kind. She also knew that he was gay and she didn't care, she loved him more than anything else in the world. He was her boy and she would protect him no matter what and wanted for him to be happy.
"Mom?" Kurt asked after taking a bite of his yummy toast.
"Yes sweetheart?" She smiled at her son.
"Will I get married?"
"Yes and you will marry the person who is perfect for you whether that is a boy or a girl."
"I think I want to marry a boy, I think men are beautiful."
"Then you can marry a man and I see you marrying a boy who is sweet, kind, loves you more than anything else in the world, humble, brave and he will have dark hair with cute little curls that bring out his gorgeous hazel eyes. He will be short and will have an obsession with bowties, just like my little Kurtie. He will have a phenomenal singing voice." Elizabeth smiled at her son.
She had described Blaine without even knowing who the boy was. Kurt snuggled closer to Blaine in his sleep, hugging him much tighter and nestling his head into his chest more.
"I love you mommy, I love you so much. I don't know what the world is going to be like without you. Who else is going to play with me? Have tea parties with me? Paint my drawings with me? I'm going to miss you so much mom, I'll never ever forget you." Kurt cried, kissing his mom's forehead before his hand was taken by Burt and he was led out of her room and away from his mom. That was the last time he ever saw his mom.
Kurt woke up crying, he looked up at his beloved and hugged him tight. When he said to Blaine that his mom had guided him to Blaine, he hadn't told Blaine what he meant by that truly. He never told him that memory and he didn't tell him what happened. How it happened.
"How did mom die dad?" Kurt asked when they were home and sat down.
"She was coming to pick you up and the lights stopped working and a truck came out of nowhere and crashed into the side of her, she died instantly." Burt said, running a hand over his bald head.
"Mr Schue, what's happened?" Kurt asked, noticing that Mr. Schuester wasn't as happy and prep as usual.
"It's Quinn, she's been in an accident." Mr. Schuester told the New Directions.
"Accident? What kind of accident?" Rachel demanded, she wanted answers as to why Quinn wasn't at her wedding.
"A truck crashed into the side of her car, she's in the hospital now. We don't really know much at the moment."
Kurt gripped tight on Blaine's hand, he was sat on his lap and his heart was racing. Quinn had a truck crash into the side of her car? His mom had a truck crash into the side of her car? No, no, no, no this can't be happening, not again. He jumped off Blaine's lap and ran out of the room, unable to hold the tears and the memories of what happened. Blaine didn't even know that a truck did it, Blaine didn't know that his mom was coming to pick him up when it happened. All Blaine knew was that Kurt couldn't lose Quinn.
Kurt lay staring at the ceiling, tears running down his cheeks, he didn't want to wake Blaine up. This time, this time alone and remembering was good for him, he didn't have to keep any secrets from himself. When Blaine woke up, he was going to tell Blaine what happened, everything.
