Author's Notes: Promted: 'Don't Rain On My Parade'

Kurt sat in his window sill and stared. It was a rather gloomy day in Lima, Ohio and in the Hummel-Hudson home. Finn was on a date with Rachel, Mercedes out with her boyfriend, and Carole and his father were out spending quality time together outside of the house. This left Kurt in his house. Alone on Spring Break in Lima, Ohio watching the rain pour down.

Normally on a day like this, Kurt would call his boyfriend and invite him over. Kurt didn't care what they did, watch TV, kiss a lot, or take a nap together (one of Kurt's personal favorites) he always just loved to have Blaine in his company.

But alas, Blaine was away on Spring Break with the Warblers at Wes's parents' beach house in North Carolina. Wes had extended the invite to Kurt of course, but Kurt didn't want to crowd Blaine and be a clingy boyfriend. Kurt sighed as he remembered the sad look on Blaine's face as they said their goodbyes.

"Please," he begged, "You should go with us. It will be fun and we'll wait for you to pack your stuff. I'm going to miss you so much."

Kurt smiled sadly. "No you go," he knew how much Blaine missed his friends at Dalton since he had transferred schools. Kurt wanted to give him the opportunity to spend time with them. "You need a break from Ohio. I'll stay here and hang with the girls." Kurt need an Ohio break too but he didn't want to smother Blaine.

"Okay…" Blaine said in a defeated tone. He had grown used to seeing Kurt every single day during school and after school. He wasn't sure how he was going to handle the separation, even if it was for only a week. The last time one of them had left (Kurt's transfer) Blaine cried. He cried during the performance and silently all the way back to Westerville. He knew it sounded really stupid but he loved Kurt so much that sometimes he had a hard time telling if this was real or all just a dream.

Kurt pulled Blaine into a hug and said, "You have fun okay. Don't worry about me."

"I'm not making any promises," Blaine said smiling sadly as they pulled back.

Kurt smiled back, "See you in a week?"

Blaine nodded, "I love you."

"I love you too," Kurt kissed Blaine goodbye and watched as he and the Warblers pulled away heading to the airport.

It had been four days. Four days and he was missing his boyfriend more than ever. He thought about calling him but Blaine was probably running around the beach making a fool of himself with the other boys. Blaine's usually goofy demeanor made Kurt smile a little bit. He felt ridiculous moping around the house on a rainy day and missing his boyfriend.

He sighed and said, "I may as well make the best of this." Kurt changed into a pair of older jeans, a tshirt, and a Dalton Academy sweatshirt Blaine kept leaving at Kurt's house. He opened his front door and stepped out into the rain. He took a deep breath and started to sing really loudly and obnoxiously as he jumped in the puddles.

Don't tell me not to live,

Just sit and putter,

Life's candy and the sun's

A ball of butter.

Don't bring around a cloud

To rain on my parade!

Don't tell me not to fly-

I've simply got to.

If someone takes a spill,

It's me and not you.

Who told you you're allowed

To rain on my parade!

Kurt came to find that he was enjoying this a lot. From time to time he wished Blaine were there to enjoy this with him. Blaine hadinspired his idea. But Kurt pushed his boyfriend from his thoughts that way missing him wouldn't put a damper on his mood.

I'll march my band out,

I'll beat my drum,

And if I'm fanned out,

Your turn at bat, sir.

At least I didn't fake it.

Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it!

But whether I'm the rose

Of sheer perfection,

A freckle on the nose

Of life's complexion,

The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye,

I gotta fly once,

I gotta try once,

Only can die once, right, sir?

Ooh, life is juicy,

Juicy, and you see

I gotta have my bite, sir!

Get ready for me, love,

cause I'm a comer,

I simply gotta march,

My heart's a drummer.

Don't bring around a cloud

To rain on my parade!

I'm gonna live and live now,

Get what I want-I know how,

One roll for the whole shebang,

One throw, that bell will go clang,

Eye on the target and wham

One shot, one gun shot, and BAM

Hey, Mister Arnstein,

Here I am!

I'll march my band out,

I'll beat my drum,

And if I'm fanned out,

Your turn at bat, sir,

At least I didn't fake it.

Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it.

Get ready for me, love,

'cause I'm a comer,

I simply gotta march,

My heart's a drummer.

"Nobody, no, nobody is gonna rain on my parade!" Kurt ended the song dramatically raising his arms in the air and tilting his head towards the sky. He smiled to himself as he breathed heavily. The he heard a door slam behind him. Kurt spun around on his heel expecting either his parents or Finn to be standing in the driveway staring at him like he was crazy. It was neither. Instead there stood Blaine staring and smiling fondly at him. Kurt felt his heart lurk excitedly as he ran into the arms of his boyfriend. Blaine laughed as Kurt practically flew into his arms, almost stumbling backward into a puddle.

"What are you doing here?" Kurt asked pulling back when he realized he was getting the other boy all wet with his drenched clothes.

"I missed my boyfriend," Blaine shrugged, "and I wanted to spend time with him. Kurt smiled and took Blaine's face in his hands, bringing him in for a kiss. Blaine felt his heart flutter in his chest. Every time he kissed Kurt it felt more special than the time before.

"Kissing in the rain?" Blaine joked, "Isn't that a little cliché?"

"S-Shut up," Kurt smiled and smacked his arm while he shivered. Blaine put his arms around Kurt and said, "Let's get you warmed up, yeah?" Kurt nodded as the couple headed into the house together. They changed into pajama pants and tshirts and Kurt hung Blaine's sweatshirt up in his closet, glad it had retained most of its Blaine-esque scent.

The two boys crawled under the duvet on Kurt's bed and held each other.

"I'm going to cuddle you until we have to go back to school and then some," Blaine said. Kurt chuckled and kissed Blaine.

"You are too cute."

"One of the reasons you love me," Blaine smiled, eyes sparkling.

Kurt grinned and kissed Blaine again.
