It was simply really. A few centimeters of air, 30 millimeters..maybe even a little less. But it was still considered distance. The air was warm in that distance. A nice warmth though. It reminded one of home, of finding a place to belong. It was everything at once and nothing. That small amount of distance held so much and yet promised so little. The distance could be easily crossed. Just a little shift in muscles. Sometimes the distance was crossed hurriedly. Other times, like now, it was examined. Held under a light. Every step was thought out, careful. Although the way to cover the distance was extremely familar, there were times when the path was just slowed down to enjoy the feeling of crossing the beautiful distance. In that distance, there were dreams. There were hopes. There were wishes. There was pain. There were tears. There was comfort. But most of all, there was love. Even though the distance was little, the love that was there was overwhelming. One could feel it and see it. One could hear it, taste it. The love was like the sweetest song ever heard. It was like a beautiful sunset on a beautiful Greek island. It tasted like a handful of Hershey's kisses or like a batch of freshly made chocolate-chip cookies. The feeling was sweet. It caused your heart to swell. It caused your vision to blur. It caused your ears to ring. It caused your knees to grow weak. It caused your fingertips to tingle and your toes to wiggle. It caused your breath to grow shallow and it caused your brain to melt into a puddle, focusing on nothing but that distance. That beautiful, sacred, safe distance. Very few got to enjoy the feeling of the distance. And it wasn't the harsh, cold, unforgiving distance of the outside world. It was warm, forgiving, beautiful. In that distance, nothing was wrong. All past grievances were forgotten. All tears dried. All worries melted away. And it was the only distance that true lovers could stand. Hazel eyes opened up to glaz eyes. Foreheads barely touching. Noses just a few inches apart. And lips in that sweet, sweet distance. Breathing wasn't a necessity in that distance. Everything they could ever need was in that distance, everything but one thing. "Blaine." Kurt breathed into the distance. "Yes?" Blaine asked, smiling. "Kiss me." Blaine smiled and took that well-worn path to close the distance. The only thing that was separating him from that sweet feeling of his lips against his true love's. Their lips barely grazed. Kurt's hands went up to Blaine's face immediately and pulled him closer. They kissed slowly and sensually. There was no hurry for them at this one moment. They knew that when they parted and that distance was more than a few centimeters, the world would come crashing back in with all its chaos and hurry. But at this moment, everything slowed down. Time was just a distant memory. Nothing really mattered but the feeling of love between them. It was a beautiful kind of blankness. Their minds would not focus on anything but that kiss. It was rare that they could find a moment for their mind to be blank with everything happening. But these kind of kisses wiped their minds completely. It was the only time that they could feel complete and relaxed. Kurt pulled away from the kiss slowly, retreating into that safe distance. They smiled at each other, eyes glowing. And as for that distance, it was still there. A few centimeters, 30 milimeters...maybe even less.
