Blaine knew how important Christmas was to Kurt. He didn't have to tell him in order to tell him. It was in the pictures all around the Hudson-Hummel household. It was in the child-like traditions that Kurt refused to skip over. It was in all of the old recipes and stories that accompanied them. He knew how tightly Kurt held onto the Christmases from his past. That's why when he was seated on the passenger side of Kurt's Navigator as it pulled it to St. Ignatius cemetery the Saturday before Christmas, his heart swelled a little at being included in one of Kurt's more important Christmas traditions.
The short drive from the entrance of the cemetery to the small plot reserved for the Hummel family was made in silence. When Kurt parked on the side of the drive and turned in his seat to face Blaine, his boyfriend just squeezed his hand in reassurance. You don't have to tell me, I know.
Kurt nodded his head and stepped out of his car, pulling his coat tight around his body to protect himself from the slight wind blowing. Blaine followed right behind him, linking their hands together as soon as he reached his boyfriend's side.
Kurt lead Blaine the short walk to his mother's headstone. For a short while, the two stood in silence while reading the inscription.

Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the
clouds are far behind me.
Blaine was startled out of a trance when Kurt started speaking beside him.
“Hi, Mom,” Kurt nearly whispered. “I miss you. So much. “I brought Blaine with me. I wish you could meet him. I wish he could meet you. Christmas still feels weird without you.” Kurt's voice cracked a little, so Blaine slid one arm around his waist and squeezed lightly. It's okay, Kurt, I understand. Kurt turned his head to look at Blaine briefly before turning back to his mom. He smiled at Blaine before continuing. “Dad was humming Silver Bells last night. I still remember you twirling around the kitchen singing that while baking Christmas cookies with me. Do you remember when you said you wished one year we could spend Christmas in New York? One day I will, and I will come back here and tell you all about it. I promise.”
Kurt went silent for a few minutes before gently tugging on Blaine's hand again and settling down on the cold ground, tracing his fingers over his mother's name. The tears he had been holding back finally escaped, falling down his cheeks. Blaine pulled him into his arms and rubbed circles over his back soothingly.
“I miss her,” Kurt cried into his boyfriend's chest. “I miss her so much, Blaine.”
“Shh,” Blaine comforted him, “I know, baby, I know.”
The pair sat on the ground, Kurt crying into Blaine's shirt and Blaine holding him, comforting him, for another ten minutes. When Kurt was all out of tears, he wrapped his arms around Blaine and looked up at his boyfriend with pleading eyes. Blaine understood and slowly extracted himself from around Kurt, standing up. He reached down to help Kurt stand, too. The two boys began walking towards the car when Blaine stopped abruptly. He turned around and walked back up to the gravestone.
Kurt, watching from the short distance, stared as Blaine crouched down and muttered the words, “It was so good to meet you, Mrs. Hummel. Thank you so much for.. for bringing me Kurt.” He stood back up, placing his left hand to his lips, and blew a kiss into the wind before turning and walking back to the Navigator, back to Kurt.
