Blaine led Kurt through Times Square to the red steps that Kurt had sat on just a few years ago. Blaine led him up to the very top of the steps and to the one corner. Kurt kept giving him a funny look. It was now about three in the afternoon that Saturday night. Blaine sat down and pulled Kurt onto his lap and smiled at him. Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine's neck and looked at him now pleadingly.
“What is going on?” Kurt asked.
“What's today?”
“New Year's Eve...duh,” Kurt replied.
“So...we have that out of the way. Why do you think we're here?” Blaine asked. Kurt looked at him and then he saw everything click in Kurt's eyes. Kurt gasped and hugged him and pulled away.
“Wait...Wait...Are you serious?” Kurt asked smiling.
“Yes. I wanted to get you out here for the night and watch the ball drop for the first time in person and not over that TV,” Blaine said. Kurt squealed and hugged him tighter than before.
“You have no idea how amazing you are,” Kurt said. Blaine laughed and held onto Kurt.
“I think I do though. You may not think that but I do,” he replied.
“I love you,” Kurt said.
“I love you too,” he replied. After spending four years in New York City together they had never been to the ball drop. Blaine wanted to make sure they were here tonight. Time dragged on slowly that day. Blaine mostly held onto Kurt and they talked about trivial stuff. Blaine went to the Starbucks right down the block to grab them coffee and got the sandwiches. When he came back they ate silently and Kurt relaxed into Blaine's arms.
“It's nice to finally be able to let go for a night,” Kurt said. Blaine wrapped his hands over Kurt's crossed ones and smiled.
“I know. I wish it would stay like this,” Blaine said.
Finally when the crowd became too much they knew it was time to watch the performances and enjoy themselves. Blaine thought Kurt was going to have a heart attack when Lady Gaga came out onto the stage. Kurt was jumping up and down and smiling. Blaine couldn't get enough of it. After Lady Gaga performed Katy Perry came out and it was Blaine's turn to freak out. Thirty minutes before the ball dropped Blaine started to get nervous. Kurt was so antsy and he hoped he would actually pay attention to him. As the time grew near Blaine started to get even more nervous if it was possible. Thirty seconds to go now...
“Kurt,” he turned to him and they looked at each other now smiling, “you mean the world to me and nobody has ever meant that much to me. I want to spend the rest of our life here in New York City and watch that ball drop every year by your side,” Blaine says as he kneels down and looks up at Kurt. Ten seconds left...
“Kurt Elizabeth Hummel...will you do me the honor of becoming my husband?”
Five...
Kurt's eyes lit up brighter than the crystal ball still going down.
“Yes Blaine! Yes!”
Blaine slipped the ring onto his finger that had a simple red ruby in the platinum band. On the inside 'New Year, New Us 2018' was engraved in cursive writing. Kurt smiled when he saw the engraving and smiled even wider if possible.
“Happy New Year!” Ryan Seacrest yelled. Blaine jumped up and kissed Kurt. The salty taste of tears on his lips. Blaine pulled away to see tears streaming down Kurt's face. Kurt reached his hands up to cup Blaine's face and wiped both thumbs over his cheeks. Only then did Blaine realize he was crying himself. Blaine took both of Kurt's hands in his and held on tightly while running his thumb over the band.
“I love you so much Blaine. You have no idea. This has been everything I've ever dreamed of and more. I can't believe you did that,” Kurt said. Blaine smiled and leaned in for another kiss capturing Kurt's lips and wrapping his arms around his neck. Kurt leaned into him and placed his hands on Blaine's waist. After kissing for a few minutes Blaine reluctantly pulled away and looked right into Kurt's shining blue eyes. Kurt laid his head on Blaine's shoulder and kissed his neck gently.
“Let's take this home and continue,” Kurt said with that tone that absolutely drove Blaine nuts.
“Let's,” Blaine replied and grabbed Kurt's hand and walked, practically dragged as Kurt put it, down the steps and back to their apartment.
“New Year...new us,” Blaine said as they walked down the busy sidewalk.
