Characters: Burt Hummel,

Author's Notes: Written long before 'The First Time' aired. PG for talking about sexual themes.
“Dad, could we talk?” Kurt was standing in front of his dad, fumbling with his fingers.
Burt nodded. “Of course, buddy. Do you want to sit down?”
Kurt didn’t answer that, he just walked to the living room and sat down in the couch. Burt followed him and sat down as well. He waited for Kurt to start talking, but when that didn’t happen, he started. “So, did you want to talk about something specific...?”
The boy took a breath. “It’s nothing bad, so don’t worry.”
“Okay...”
“I just,” he sighed, “I don’t even know why I’m nervous. Okay, what I wanted to say. Right before I started dating Blaine, you talked with me. About sex.”
“I remember that,” Burt answered, “So I’m guessing you want to talk about sex?”
“Yes,” Kurt answered, his head flushed, “I just wanted... You were really honest with me then. You got those pamphlets for me, you looked things up for me, and you were always there for me.”
“That’s because you’re my son and I love you. Any father would, or should, do that for his kid”, Burt interrupted.
“I know. But I’m still very grateful about that. You treated me as an adult. Anyway, because you’re always so open about everything with me, I feel like I should do the same. Which is why I want to tell you this.”
“I’m listening.”
Kurt’s head was bright red now, though he knew he shouldn’t be nervous bout this. “I... Me and Blaine. Uhm. I’m not a virgin anymore.”
Burt gave him this proud father look. The ‘congratulations, you are a man now’ kind of look. He put his hand on Kurt’s shoulder. “I am glad you feel confident telling me this, Kurt. It’s an important moment in your life.”
Kurt smiled shyly.
“Was it good?” he asked, “And I don’t want any details, to be clear.”
“It was,” his son answered, “I’m happy it was with Blaine. They say you never forget it, your first time. And I don’t know what will happen in the future between me and Blaine, but at this moment I love him. That’s what counts, right?”
“That’s what counts. It’s called making love for a reason,” he winked, much to Kurt’s embarrassement. “You did it safe, I presume?”
“Of course, Dad. I’m a responsible boy. And Blaine is too, for that matter.”
“That’s good,” Burt chuckled, “Guess we’ll have to adjust the ‘open door’ policy a bit now?”
He flushed again. “Oh gosh, Dad, we’d never... do that when you guys are here! Please!”
“Kurt, I know it’s hard to believe, but a long time ago, I was a teenage boy. With a girlfriend and crazy hormones. You are a teenage boy with crazy hormones, in a relationship with another teenage boy with crazy hormones. I know you are not planning on having sex when we’re at home, but your hormones might have different ideas. And believe me: I don’t want to walk in on that, and neither do Finn or Carole. But I’m gonna discuss that first with your momma.”
“Okay,” he smiles at his dad, “Thanks for being so... normal about all of this.”
Burt shrugged. “You’re in a committed relationship, you don’t sleep around, you were safe and if I know you guys good, you talked a lot about this before it happened. So why wouldn’t I talk about this as if it’s something normal? Sex is normal. Sex is the difference between being best friends and being in a relationship. It sure makes things different, but if you love each other, it makes everything better.”
“It does. It feels almost like...,” Kurt thought for a moment, “It feels like there’s a bond between us now. Like we share something very special.”
“That’s how it’s supposed to feel, buddy,” Burt said, “It’s this little thing called love.”
Kurt suddenly looked very shy. “I guess it is.”
“You love him, don’t you?”
The boy smiled. “I do. I’d never thought I’d be able to say that. A year ago, I felt all alone and now I actually have a boyfriend.”
“You’ve grown up, Kurt. You know who you are, you are happy with yourself, so you can love someone else. I’m proud of you.”
