Author's Notes: Basically, just a drabble I wrote instead of paying attention in several of my classes today and yesterday. I was going to post earlier but then the Blaine-is-a-junior riot happened - still not ok with that. Since both the summary and title are less than desirable, I would gladly accept any and all suggestions. I am not a fan of Finn- I'll just say that now.
Finn flopped on his bed. He knew he ought to study for his U.S. quiz tomorrow because he hadn’t opened his book all year, but he just didn’t care at the moment. Glee had practiced its first group number that day, and he always seemed to forget how exhausted they left him after a summer of lazing around. Maybe he would look at his reading after a round of Halo.

He heard a sharp knock and turned his head. Kurt was fuming in his open doorway. Groaning, Finn buried his face in his pillow and said, “No.”

“Finn, what the hell was that in Glee club today?”

“Kurt, I’m tired. Go away.”

Ignoring him, Kurt stormed next to Finn’s bed. “You were way out of line with what you said to Blaine today.”

Finn rolled onto his back with his hands underneath his head.

“Actually, I wasn’t. Blaine is used to being the main guy at Dalton. He can’t come in here and expect to get all the solos. And I’m not the only one!” Finn raised his voice as Kurt started to open his mouth. “There was already enough competition for the lead- now that he’s here none of us guys stand a chance.”

“Blaine doesn’t expect anything like that! If glee club was the most important thing, he would have stayed with the Warblers!”

“Then why did he transfer?”

“Because I-” Kurt started before his voice cracked and he turned red. “I don’t have to answer that,” he said abruptly as he turned on his heel out the door.

Finn rolled his eyes. He wasn’t being unreasonable. All of the guys, even Mike, were worried about their spots. All the girls loved him, even though they obviously had no chance with him. Yeah, they had hung out a decent amount over the summer because Blaine was always hanging out with Kurt at the house, but that was before they were competition. Kurt just didn’t get it. Finn threw the pillow at the dresser like it was Kurt’s face and grabbed his controller from the foot of his bed, ready to let off some steam by killing aliens.

---

“They all hate me.”

“No, they don’t!”

“Just stop it!” Blaine shouted. “You saw the look on their faces.”

“I honestly don’t know what that was about. I’m sure Finn was just freaking out over nothing. I’ll talk to him, ok?”

“Ok,” Blaine exhaled shakily.

---

This was his fault. He was the one who convinced Blaine to transfer, to leave the safety of Dalton. They’d known they would have to face the bullies with slushies; how could they have known that the first bullies would come from within?

Kurt’s phone buzzed with Blaine’s text tone. He rubbed the tears prickling at the corner of his eyes and looked at the message.

Have you talked to him yet?

Kurt could feel the nervous energy just through these words. Blaine wanted so badly to be accepted by the people who were supposed to be his new friends. Kurt would do anything he could to spare Blaine that kind of pain.

Yeah- it seems like it was just a big misunderstanding.

Kurt stared at his reply for several minutes. He just couldn’t do it- he couldn’t bring himself to press the send button. He couldn’t lie to Blaine like that when the tension would still clearly be there.

At least they didn’t send you to a crackhouse!

Before he finished typing Kurt knew that was beyond inappropriate. No, this was a conversation they needed to have in person; Blaine was going to freak out and Kurt wanted to be there to try and calm him down (and perhaps ease some of his own mounting guilt). He grabbed his keys and yelled to his Dad that he was driving to Blaine’s.

Things might be a bit complicated.

Send.
End Notes: I don't know if Glee will play up the tension introduced in episode one, but that would be really interesting to me. It would be angsty and make me hate Finn even more, but it would definitely be a cool dynamic.
