A/N: Just a one-shot about what I think might possibly be really going on here because let's face it, Kurt nailed his NYADA audition. There is absolutely no way that he would have really been rejected! Please review!
After telling Finn and Rachel that he needed a moment alone, Kurt watched his stepbrother and friend exit the choir room, Rachel not looking nearly as happy as she should. Why not? She'd gotten accepted to NYADA. Kurt hadn't. Or so he had told them.
Once he was sure that both of them were long gone, Kurt unfolded his NYADA letter again and stared at it, only reading over the first few words, trying to decide whether he'd made the right decision or not.
Dear Mr. Hummel:
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted...
Kurt sighed and ran a hand over his face. He hadn't been rejected. NYADA wanted him and Rachel and he had just made up his mind that he was going to throw it all away. If only just for a year. He didn't want to leave Blaine. He had told him that they were going to make it sure but the truth, he was damn terrified of the idea of having a long distance relationship with the boy he loved more than anything else in the world. He must really love him more because he was putting his dreams on hold to stay with him in Lima. No one had to know that Kurt had really been accepted to NYADA. But he had to tell the school somehow without others finding out that he needed to postpone entry for another year.
How he was going to figure that one out, Kurt didn't have a slightest clue. But to keep everyone else from getting suspicious, he had to play it off like he really had received a rejection letter.
Squeezing his eyes shut tight, Kurt thought of the saddest things he could, willing himself to cry on cue. He didn't like the idea of lying to Blaine but he had to so that Blaine wouldn't try and talk him into going to New York after all. He knew that was what his boyfriend would do.
Feeling the leak of tears sting his eyes, Kurt opened them and found his vision blurry. Perfect. Slumping his straight stature a little, he grabbed his bag and shoved the letter into it before making his way slowly out of the room.
Blaine was waiting by Kurt's car, leaning against the Navigator with his arms crossed over his chest. "I just saw Finn and Rachel. They said you wanted to hang back a moment," he said, looking fully concerned. "You okay?" Kurt sniffed, glad for his acting ability. He was proving right then that he belonged in NYADA. This was a bold move. Choosing love over dreams. But Kurt felt it was the right thing to do.
"I didn't get in," he whispered, pleased with how broken and choked up his voice sounded. Blaine looked positively stunned.
"Kurt, that's not possible. You nailed that audition. I saw it. Rachel saw it. Mr. Schue saw it. Even Carmen herself said it was extraordinary and she was impressed. How could you not get in?" Kurt shrugged, opening the door for Blaine. Blaine hesitated a moment before climbing into the car and it wasn't until Kurt had gotten into the driver's seat that he noticed the angry look across his boyfriend's face.
"What are you so angry about?" he croaked through a sniff, sticking the key in the ignition but not bothering to turn it at all.
Blaine turned and looked at him. "We're going to New York Kurt. I'm going to have a harsh word with those NYADA people myself! And I'm not taking no for answer!" Kurt stared at him, wide-eyed. He had not expected this reaction from Blaine. He had expected him to be comforting and try and console and make him feel better mostly at the mention that they could be close to each other another year. But he hadn't expected Blaine to be so determined to change the supposed rejection status of Kurt's NYADA letter.
He knew his boyfriend was right though. He hadn't thought about the fact that Blaine would pick up on the idea that there was no way he could have been rejected. Not when his audition had gone off without a hitch. For a moment, Kurt wondered if he should have blown his audition on purpose.
"What?" he asked out of surprise.
"You heard me! There's no way they can be rejecting you." Kurt's hands gripped the steering wheel and he bit his lip. He knew now that he couldn't keep lying to Blaine. It wouldn't be easy with Blaine so determined to go and have word with the NYADA admissions himself. If he did that, then he'd find out the truth. Might as well cut to the chase while they were ahead.
Kurt sighed heavily. "You don't have to Blaine." Blaine stared at him for a moment. He opened his mouth to reply but Kurt turned to look at him and held his hand up. "You don't have to because I wasn't rejected." Blaine looked confused. Kurt sighed again and pulled his acceptance letter from his bag handing it to Blaine.
It was quiet for a few moments as Blaine read through the letter. Afterward, he looked up at Kurt with a puzzled expression.
"I don't get it Kurt. If you were accepted, why would you say you weren't? This is your dream. You have to go." It was then that Kurt broke down in real tears and his head thudded against the steering wheel.
"I know Blaine. But I can't bare the thought of being that far away from you for an entire year. So I lied. I lied so that I could stay back in Lima without anyone questioning my motives. I don't want to be apart from you. I want to go to New York so badly but Blaine, I want us to go there together."
Blaine stared at him for several long moments. "You were going to throw away your acceptance for the chance to stay with me another year?" he asked as though he were completely surprised by this.
Kurt looked up at him and managed a watery smile.
"Yes. Blaine, I know my dreams mean everything to me. Being on Broadway and getting into NYADA is all I ever wanted. But I realized there's something I want more. And that's to spend every moment of my life with you. I can't do that if I'm all the way in New York while you stay here for you last year of high school."
Blaine didn't know what to say. He was incredibly touched by Kurt's words. The fact that Kurt cherished their relationship more than the chance to become a star meant a lot to him. But he remembered that Kurt wasn't like Rachel. There were things that Kurt would give up to be with someone he loved. Or more like, people he cared about that were worth more to him than fame.
In that moment, Blaine realized that Kurt was a star and one day, he would get his big break. But he was willing to wait that much longer for Blaine's sake and that was what made him different than so many other people on a quest for stardom.
And that was when Blaine knew they were really going to make it.
"I love you Kurt Elizabeth Hummel," he whispered.
"I love you too Blaine Everett Anderson," Kurt whispered back. Both boys closed the distance between them and sealed their love with a kiss.

thank you for giving some sort of justification to why kurt wasn't accepted. it makes a lot of sense and it follows the endgame cannon. nice job! here's my theory: kurt's (acceptance) letter was put into rachel's envelope and rachel's (rejection) letter was put into kurt's envelope. when each one read their letters, in their excitement, they failed to notice the salutation. yep, "dear mr hummel...you have been accepted..." was in rachel's envelope. and "dear ms berry...we regret to inform you that you have not been accepted..." was in kurt's envelope. long story short...it was an administrative fuck up on NYADA's part. you know, if you wanted to write this theory as a fic, i would be more than happy to read it ;) and before you ask, i'm not a writer and am a procrastinator–i have been trying to write three klaine/glee fics for over a year, and i haven't gotten anywhere with them.
You know, that is a very interesting theory! I'm sure people can come up with all kinds of ideas why Kurt supposedly wasn't accepted. But we all know that it makes no sense for him to not have been accepted. I guess we'll have to wait until Season 4 to find out what's going down with Kurt.
I didn't even think about this! Really good. :)
