Walking through the forest was a danger in itself, nobody ever went though them, nobody even tried to, but he had no other choice. As he walked, his footsteps were making the slightest sounds on the fallen twigs that were beneath him, snapping and crackling with every step. He travelled carefully, his senses were high, as it was dark and he couldn’t see anything beyond him.
It was just coming into winter and the wind was chilling, he pushed his scarf closer to his neck and buried his hands deeper in his pockets, he could see the vapour coming out of his mouth with every breath he took. The trees around him creaked and rocked with the wind, the branches clawing like hands into the empty air.
The winding path that he was following grew smaller and faded away, soon he was walking by his instinct, following nothing, but he knew where he was going. Suddenly he was dragged out of his thoughts by a bright glowing light that was a few feet in front of him. He stopped and stared, his brows furrowed in confusion, he started to walk slowly to the source, blinking a few times to make sure he wasn’t seeing anything.
As he drew closer, he had to cover his eyes with his gloved hand, it was so bright. When his eyes finally adjusted to the light, he started to make out what the object was.
What he could make out, was basically just like a ball, but it was bright and it sparkled, with an eerie glow around it. He walked a little closer, knelt down and reached out his hand, he could feel the warmth radiating of it and his hand started to tingle, but suddenly he stopped. What if it was dangerous? What if it was going to blow up or something? His thoughts were flooding around his head; it was only when the object started to move that he realized that he was so close to it. He jerked back and stood up, waiting for what was going to happen.
His eyes widened and his mouth dropped open in shock, it was. Transforming? It started to open up, so much heat was radiating off it he had to stand back to stop from overheating, he stood there, paralyzed in shock and confusion. What was thing thing?
The whole forest around him was glowing brighter and brighter as the object started to develop into…a child! He blinked rapidly and stared at the child in shock, it was unmistakably small and dainty, its eyes where big and sparkled blue, its skin was pure and reflected against the shell that it had climbed out of. He only noticed that it was a girl as soon as he saw the long lustrous blue locks of hair over her shoulders. He let out the ragged breath he didn’t even notice he was holding and his relaxed a little; at least it wasn’t something that wasn’t going to eat him alive.
He didn’t know what to do, he stood there awkwardly, still entranced in what he was seeing, a little girl, had just fallen from the sky, in some kind of egg? Was he dreaming?
The little girl looked scared; she was wearing a pure white gown that frilled over her bare feet. Her eyes were bright with wonder and confusion; he had a feeling that they were both in the same boat here.
She sat down, crossed he legs and clicked her tiny little fingers, to his surprise a blue flame was floating above her fingers. She repeated this and looked pretty bored. He was still standing there, in complete shock, he couldn’t bring any words, and finally he snapped out of it.
“H-Hi?” He knelt down and looked at her in the eyes, for a little kid who had probably just fallen out of nowhere, she looked beautiful.
Her head snapped up and she screamed, he was guessing she didn’t really realize he was there. She hurriedly got back into the egg and covered her face, whimpering a little.
“Hey, it’s ok. I’m not going to hurt you little one...” He didn’t want to scare her off, so he tried to act as calm as possible, even though he was scared to death and he was pretty sure he was going to faint soon because of the heat. She started to glow brighter and he started to back away.
“Who are you?” She whispered, still holding her hands over her eyes and burying herself deeper into the egg.
“I’m Blaine, what are you? Why did you just fall out of the sky?” What the hell was he doing? He couldn’t control his thoughts, he wanted to know everything.
She smiled a little and uncovered her face, she stepped out and the glow died down a little, she flew up to his face and stared at it a little in confusion. She flew up to his head and started to pull on his hair, but not too hard that it would cause pain.
With every touch, Blaine felt tingles travel along his body. He laughed at the way she was flying around and exploring different parts of him.
“You seem nice, why are you so big?” Her eyes filled with wonder and she hovered in front of his face.
“I...I don’t know, why are you so small?” Blaine couldn’t contain his laughter and let out a little chuckle, could he really be talking to a fairy? If she even was one...
“It’s because I’m a Star Child silly!” She giggled and smiled brightly, flying around in a circle.
“A-a star child?” Okay, if Blaine wasn’t confused before, he was defiantly confused now.
Suddenly another bright light was shun bright from the sky and was beaming down onto the little so called ‘Star child’.
She stared down at Blaine as she started to float up to the light, the broken egg following shortly after her, Blaine felt the heat stronger from before and he had to wipe the sweat gathering from his head. He was gawping up from where she was, entranced into what was happening, was he dreaming? Nothing as strange in this would just occur out of the blue like this.
He pinched himself lightly on the arm, as he winced at the pain and noted himself that he wasn’t dreaming.
“Thank you for looking after me!” She shouted, smiling down warmly at him, and then she was gone, there was no trace of her. The only proof that Blaine had actually just met a Star Child was the glitter that now covered him.
He shoved his hands deep in his pocket and started to walk home, his thoughts flooding with what just had happened when his hands closed around a hard, warm object that was in his pocket, he pulled it out and marvelled at it in shock.
It was a star.
