Kurt chewed his nails as he looked out the small window of his room. He sighed as he looked over to the brick wall of the building next to his. Small windows, like his own, were spread evenly across the wall. All of them were covered with cloth or cardboard.

“Kurt! Medicine time.” A tray was slipped through an opening in the middle of his door. He took it carefully, making sure not to drop the clean water that accompanied his ‘medicine’. A woman looked though the glass on his door, waiting to see him swallow the meds.

With a groan, Kurt popped 3 pills into his mouth and gulped down the water. He opened his moth to show her that they went down. With a nod, she left.

Kurt went back to the window and continued to look out, hoping something would change. Nothing ever did though. After looking out the tiny window from his 4 walled room for years, the only thing that had changed was the age of the bricks across from him. They had begun to grow mold and slowly, some bricks had begun to crumble away from the weather.

Suddenly, the flap from the window across his own opened and a familiar face looked at him and a broad smile spread across his face.

Kurt blew air on his window and began. “Morning!” He smiled as he got the same reply, then it was erased and something else was written. “My dose was upped, yours?” Kurt couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Still the same.”

He had been having the same meeting with the boy from across the building for a few months now, Blaine was his name.

He laughed as Blaine stuck out his tongue at him through the window. They had never been together before, but they had made a blooming friendship from distance, which turned into a hidden crush on both parts, until Blaine confessed.

Kurt had whole heartedly confessed his feelings back. The boys had written on their windows to each other for months. Never had they seen each other in person or heard the other speak.

There was a time though, when Blaine hadn’t been at the window for a while. Kurt had been upset for weeks. His anti-depressant meds had been upped, along with others. 2 of his 3 doctors had him tested several times and concluded that he was slowly relapsing back to his former ways. They could not allow that to happen when he had been doing so much better.

Kurt had never told them about Blaine. Only one of the three doctors knew. She loved to hear about how Blaine and Kurt had been helping each other. Sadly, when Blaine had stopped going to the window, Kurt’s doctor just shook her head and sometimes walked out. She didn’t want to hear about Blaine anymore, so Kurt stopped.

After a while, Blaine came back. His smile was tired, but it was there. Kurt felt like he had begun to get better again..

“Kurt, it’s time to go see your favorite doctor!” One of the helpers at the center led him down a pristine white hall. It smelled of bleach and chlorine, but Kurt was used to it.

He happily sat down on the couch and looked at his doctor. “Hello doctor, what’s up?” The woman gave a slow smile and looked at Kurt. “I believe that is my question young man.” Kurt chuckled and sighed.

I think I’m getting better. I’m not sad anymore right?” She nodded slowly as she wrote something down on her notebook.

“Can I tell you something doctor?” She nodded and waited for Kurt to continue.

“I know you told me not to tell you about it anymore, but you wont believe it!” She lifted an elegant brow at his enthusiasm. “Blaine’s back! He was at his window today. I’m really glad. I don’t want him to go away, but I know that he’ll get better before I do, so, I just want to be with him for as long as I can.” He hunched his shoulders a little and sighed.

“I, see. Well, I hope you get better as well Kurt. I just wanted to know how you were doing. You can go back if you want.” Kurt smiled at her and got up from the couch.

“I guess I’ll see you tomorrow Doctor Anderson!” He was led back to his room.

Dr. Anderson let out a shaky sigh. Kurt looked terrible. He was thinner, so much thinner. The bags under his eyes were proof that the poor boy had been waiting for Blaine. His mind was slowly fading.

She took a shaky breath. Blaine was her son. He had been admitted to the suicide wing. Kurt, thankfully, didn’t notice the similarities between her and him.

Sadly, Blaine had stolen a syringe from the infirmary. His fear won him over. His body was found hours after he had gone cold.

A sob escaped Blaine’s mother. The medicine Kurt was taking was slowly killing him and she knew it. But his other doctors had ‘more practice’ with patients like Kurt. They believed if the medicine was upped, the results would be better. He was hallucinating, he was wasting away, he rarely ate or slept.

She tilted her head back and dropped the notebook. She had failed her son. He knew she was Kurt’s doctor. He asked her to help him. To keep him strong. But she failed. She could do nothing but wait for the day Kurt’s mind and body gave out. Before it was too much for the fragile boy.

“Dr. Anderson! Please come to patient 527’s room!” It was all she needed to hear before she ran out of the office and towards Kurt's room.

End Notes: I feel bad for writing this now.

IT IS SO SAD BUT SO GOOD AND GAH I NEED TO GO CRY SOME MORE NOW.

*choked gasp* The tears. I hate how much I love this story. Usually angst one-shots are SO bad, but yours totally blew my mind. Now if you'll excuse me, I can't shower you with compliments at the moment as I need to go cry into a pillow.
