Blaine shakes his head, sides heaving as one of his cuts begins to bleed anew. Kurt is still standing over the carcass of the giant spider-crab, staring down at it in a sort of horrified fascination. The tall dark walls of the maze seem more ominous than ever as Blaine strains his ears, trying to listen for sound, any sound. A shiver works its way down his spine as he remembers how Santana had attacked him earlier, her clever dark eyes glazed over with some sort of enchantment. If Kurt hadn't saved him then, and now...
Kurt grips his wand more tightly and turns to Blaine, his blue eyes wide and his face ashen. Blaine swallows and tries to quash down the nervous little flutter in his stomach, the one that has nothing to do with the fact that the Triwizard Cup is but feet away from them. The one that has become increasingly frequent ever since he saw how Kurt had dressed at the Yule Ball - maybe even before that, when Kurt had pulled him aside and warned him about the first task. They were from different schools, Blaine reminded himself. There could never be anything between them.
"Thanks," he mutters, eyes fixed on a point just beyond Kurt's shoulder. Kurt gives him a short nod, his own gaze flitting past Blaine and fixing, no doubt, on the Cup behind him. Blaine runs a hand over his face, painfully aware of how his leg has begun to throb. The spider-crab hybrid had grabbed him so violently, Blaine is sure that some bones must at least be fractured.
"Go on, then," he grits out roughly, stepping aside to lean on the leafy wall of the maze. "You deserve it. Saving me twice and everything." He notices how Kurt's eyebrows shoot up, how an adorable look of confusion steals across his face. As if Kurt isn't even aware of the things he's done tonight.
"I... yeah," Kurt replies slowly, "but I didn't... I mean." He blushes faintly, and Blaine fights back the urge to grin at him. It would look startlingly out of place. "You would've gotten there first. You should..."
Blaine shakes his head, again. "No, that great dirty thing got me first - if you hadn't stopped it, I'd be a goner." Kurt worries his lower lip with his teeth, and Blaine cannot suppress a small smile. "Take it. It's yours."
Kurt inhales deeply and walks forward, offering a hand to Blaine. "Together?" he asks, looking unsure. Blaine wonders what will happen if he accepts. Surely the Tournament cannot have two separate schools winning? But he accepts Kurt's hand, wincing as he hobbles forward.
"Together," he agrees as they stop in front of the Cup. It glows a soft blue, and Blaine feels a thrill course through his veins. He reaches out to grip one of the handles, Kurt mimicking him and holding onto the other.
Blaine feels a jerk behind his navel, and the world spins in multiple colours around him. When he lands with a thud, his face is pressed against the ground.
The last thing he hears is a sinister, hissing voice. Kill the spare.
