"Okay guys!" Finn had a new habit of walking into the classroom and talking loudly and interrupting everyone's conversation when he was ready to start class, even if it was before class was due to start.
"I think that since you guys got a second chance and totally killed it at regionals! We get a week off from practice. This week is free week. Whatever you want to do, you can sing to each other, sing to someone who's not here, sing just because you want to hear your own voice. The only thing in the assignment you have to do is sing. "
The entire class errupted in ideas and excited exclamations of who was going to sing what to who. Blaine sat in the back row, his appointed spot since he'd transferred to McKinley his junior year to be with Kurt. He glanced down at his phone to see if he'd gotten any text messages from Kurt.
Sure, he wished they were still together, still where they were a year ago. But he couldn't do anything to change the past. He was lucky enough that Kurt had been willing to be his friend. So for as long as he needed to, he would be Kurt's best friend.
1 New Message:
Blaine. You need to call me. NOW. - xx Rachel.
Blaine looked back down at his phone to make sure he'd read that correctly before panicking and assuming something had happened to Kurt. He politely excused himself from the room before running down the hallway. He dialed Rachel's number and waited for three dial tones to pass before she finally picked up the phone.
"Finally." Rachel chided him over the line.
"What's going on? Is Kurt okay? Did you call his dad?!" Blaine talked, out of breath from running, and frantic with pure fear.
"Kurt's fine. Well, kind of." Rachel sighed. "Blaine, he's being really stupid."
Blaine shook his head, Kurt was never stupid. "What are you talking about Rachel?" He practically laughed at her declaration.
"He's seeing this guy." Blaine practically felt his heart break into smaller pieces. Rachel must of heard small sob that barely came from his mouth. "Blaine I'm sorry, I shouldn't have sprung it on you like that."
"No, it's fine." He forced himself to compose his normal self. "What's so bad about him?"
"Nothing." Blaine could practically hear Rachel roll her eyes over the phone.
"He's just not you. And I can tell Kurt's not happy, but he wont say it because he's so stubborn, but he's just not himself anymore and-"
"Maybe he is happy." Blaine hoped his voice wasn't as choked and wet as it sounded in his head. "I don't know Rachel, I'm at school. I really have to go. I'll talk to you soon." He didn't wait for her reply before hanging up the call. He paded down the hall hoping he didn't look heartbroken enough for the kids in the choir room to ask him questions.
The next day people in the class were starting their performances. Tina sang something about love while staring at Blaine the entire time, at this point, he didn't know what would convince her he didn't have feelings for her. Jake sang something off of the newest Aerosmith album, jumping off the stage and singing straight to Marley's face, her blushing the entire time.
Artie sang something that sounded like it came straight off of a R-Kelly CD, while pointing at Sugar everytime the song had the word 'you' in the lyrics. And Sam sang an up-beat one direction song, ending it by body-rolling and taking off his shirt. Marley and Unique sang a song from Wicked to each other, representing their friendship, Blaine was sure. But as soon as the opening notes of the song came in and Blaine recognized what the song was from, he wanted to throw up.
Everyone finished their songs and Blaine was left to go last. His hands shook.
"Okay Blaine, you're up." Finn called from another row in the auditorium, he sounded like he was miles away.
Blaine walked up to the piano towards the back of the stage and sat down. He tapped out the beginning note of the song and began singing.
Same bed but it feels just a little bit bigger now
Our song on the radio but it don't sound the same
When our friends talk about you, all it does is just tear me down
Cause my heart breaks a little when I hear your name
He could practically feel everyone in the room roll their eyes at him. He was sure by now they'd all realized he was singing about Kurt, again. He secretly wanted all of them to feel the way he felt just so they understood.
It all just sounds like oooooh…
Mmm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party
Cause all you wanted to do was dance
Now my baby's dancing
But he's dancing with another man
He played the small interlude before the next verse, considering stopping. He was finished singing, he didn't want to anymore. It didn't even feel good to sing anymore.
My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong man like you to walk out my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, ohh…
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes
Finn sat silently in the crowd, looking down at his phone. It would be that easy to press the call button and let Kurt hear this. But Kurt was his brother, he was supposed to be happy. And from what he'd told him over the phone, this Adam guy made him happy.
It all just sounds like oooooh… Mmm,
too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party
Cause all you wanted to do was dance
Now my baby's dancing But he's dancing with another man
Finn looked away, hoping this was the right decision. He layed the phone on his leg and let it ring.
Although it hurts I'll be the first to say that I was wrong
"Hello?" Kurt asked into the phone, sitting by himself in his apartment. Adam was supposed to be there any minute so that they could have a day in together at he and Rachel's apartment. He froze after hearing the voice singing on the other line. He'd recognize it anywhere at any time.
Oh, I know I'm probably much too late
To try and apologize for my mistakes
But I just want you to know
Blaine's voice faltered on the last word. Finn hoped he wouldn't stop there. He had to finish the song now.
I hope he buys you flowers
I hope he holds your hand
Give you all his hours When he has the chance
Take you to every party
Cause I remember how much you loved to dance
Blaine stopped to breath, the tears still swimming in his eyes, much too close to spilling over for his comfort.
Do all the things I should have done When I was your man
Kurt didn't notice the sobs coming from his mouth until the song ended and he was sitting in silence. He faintly heard footsteps, they sounded quick. And then suddenly everyone calling a name.
"Blaine!" Finn chased after him, Blaine had quickly exited the auditorium after finishing his song. "Stop!"
Blaine turned around, tears spilling down his cheeks. "Why?" He questioned. "So everyone in there can sit and talk about how tired they are of hearing me whine about my own mistake. So that everyone in there that has no idea how bad that it hurt's tell me to get over it?!"
"No, because I need you to talk to someone." Finn said, simply handing his phone over to Blaine. He put the phone to his ear, immediately hearing unsteady breathing on the other line of the phone.
"Blaine-" Kurt could hardly say his name without bursting into tears again. "God. I just-"
"Kurt I-"
Kurt interrupted him. "Please just let me.." He drifted off. "God I love you. I love you so much. "
Blaine's face crumpled, he wanted to colapse with relief. Kurt loved him. And he was almost positive things were going to be messy for a while. But while Kurt talked on the other line to him, he felt like things would actually be okay for the first time in months.

Wow this is exactly what I thought of when I heard this song. You made it do much better though to what I would have written.
