From the day Kurt and Blaine's four year old son Ben decided he was going to play soccer, it was established that Kurt would be the one to handle everything. Considering that was his favorite thing to do until he was about fourteen he understood all of the rules, the coaches and everything else that went with it. So when Kurt was called into work the day of one of Ben's soccer game, he was a little hesitant to send him at all.
Not that he didn't trust Blaine to take him, it was just that..He didn't trust him.
"Daddy..I don't wanna miss this game! Come on..Dada will take good care of me!" He pleaded. He grabbed both of Kurt's hands. Kurt was crouched down on the floor so he was face-to-face with Ben.
Kurt sighed and looked up at Blaine and sighed. "Okay..Just be very careful.." He gave Ben a small smile.
Ben practically tackled him in a hug, wrapping his arms around his neck "Thank you daddy!"
"Your welcome..Just be very, very careful.." He kissed Ben on the forehead before standing up and letting Blaine do the same to him.
"I promise i'll take care of him." He smiled and kissed Kurt one more time before he left.
He promised Kurt he would take good care of him. He promised. The thought of that enough made him want to cry. But he couldn't cry. He had to be strong for his son who was currently sobbing into his chest in the back of an ambulance, cradling his arm that was 'most definitely broken' according to the paramedic.
Before today Blaine would have questioned someone breaking their arm while playing soccer. But after seeing his little boy fall on his tine arm after being tripped by a boy that was atleast two times bigger than him on the other team, he belived it. He ran out into the middle of the field picking up the now screaming boy before the whistle was even blown. The rest of the parents were nothing but amazing, keeping Blaine calm more than anyone else, keeping him from loosing his cool with anyone.
"Dada..?" Ben whimpered up at him.
He looked down at him tenetively "Yeah buddy?"
"It r-really hurts.." He started to cry again.
"Don't cry buddy.." He wiped the tears off of the little boy's face and kissed his forehead.
"But Dada.." He sighed and nesstled his head into Blaine's chest.
"Ben.." He attempted to get the little boy's mind off of the pain. "You totally got that goal." He smiled.
Ben looked up at him and smiled "Really?"
"Yeah!" He smiled at the boy who was now only sniffling rather than sobbing. "That might of been the best one ever!"
"Wow!" He seemed to have taken his mind off of his arm that was now a very dark shade of purple and swolen. Blaine winced looking at it.
When they arrived at the hospital Ben was immediately taken back to an X-Ray room. Blaine held him and carried him everywhere they went. The second he tried to put Ben down on even a chair he would begin wailing and screaming 'No Dada'. So when he finally had a free moment he handed the nurse his cell phone and instructed her to call Kurt.
He looked down at Ben after she'd left the room and he was quietly crying in his arms again. "Hey Buddy..You're okay..They're gonna take care of you." He tried his best to soothe him.
The nurse came in the room informing them that she'd called Kurt and that he assured her he would be there soon. Ben began to cry harder in Blaine's arms.
"Whats the matter buddy?" He moved a stray piece of brown hair off of his forehead.
"Daddy has to leave work! I didn't w-wanna d-dooo that to him." He dragged out the last word.
"Oh, buddy.." He cradled him into his chest as best as he could without touching his arm. Ben sobbed into his chest again. Blaine sighed. There was only so many things he could do.
He sighed in relief when the doctor returned to the room. "So Ben, that must have been a heck of a game." he smiled a little at the little boy. Ben nodded in response.
"Well, It looks like it's broken in about three different places..And we're looking in to having to do a procedure and- "
"Dada what's that?"
He sighed and looked back up at the doctor and hoped he would help explain further. "It means you're gonna have to go to sleep for a little while. And the doctors are going to fix your arm."
"Can Dada come with me when I go to sleep?"
"I'm afraid not. He can't come back because-"
This set a whole new set of wails echoing through the room. He was sobbing again clutching Blaine harder than he had in the ambulance. Blaine stroked his hair "Buddy..It's gonna be okay, you'll be fine..You're such a big boy. I know you can do it. Even with out me and daddy.."
As if on cue Kurt was being led into the room by the same nurse that had called him from Blaine's phone. As soon as he saw Ben he was running over to him.
"Daddy!" Ben sobbed miserably. "Don't let them make me go to sleep!" he screamed the words into Kurt's chest once he was there to comfort him.
"What?!" Kurt turned around to face the doctor.
"He's probably going to have to get some minor surgery done, the break did quite a bit of damage. "
"Oh.." Kurt tried his hardest to keep his cool standing in front of his son who was already terrified himself. Everyone that knew Kurt knew that he was absolutely terrified of hospitals let alone surgeries. So the thought of his baby going under for surgery, no matter how small the surgery was, left him petrified.
He tried his best to turn around and looked at Ben "You're going to have to go to sleep..But just for a little bit okay?"
The tears continued to run down his face but the sobs coming from him were subsiding to only sniffles. "But Daddy I-"
"Baby you have to.." He ran a hand through Ben's soft brown hair. "The doctor will take very good care of you okay?"
The doctor nodded in agreement, he bent down next to Ben "And when you're done we'll get you the coolest cast we've got to put on it.."
Ben's eyes lit up "Can it be orange?!"
"It can be whatever color you want." He shot Kurt and Blaine a reassuring smile. "But we have to go to sleep for a little bit, and we need to do it soon because I have other little boys and girls to take care of..So will you come back to another room with me?"
Ben suddenly clung tighter to Blaine. "What if Daddy carries you?" Kurt suggested.
He nodded against Blaine's chest, reaching his unbroken arm out for Kurt to hold him. Kurt took him and manuvered him on his hip without touching his injured arm. He carried him back to the room where anestisiologist was waiting for him.
Kurt sat him gently on the table. "Do you wanna hold mine and Dada's hands?"
"Mmhmm." he whimpered again. Kurt put his hand next to Ben so he could hold it. Blaine started walking over to the other side of the table but remembered Ben couldn't necessarily grab Blaine's hand with his broken arm. He placed his hand on top of Kurt's and Ben grabbed both of their thumbs. Blaine looked at Kurt and gave him a small reassuring smile.
The anestisiologist placed the small breathing mask over top of Ben's tiny face and flipped a switch on a machine. "Okay Ben can you count to ten for me?" He nodded his head.
"One..Two. Three. Four. Five.Siiix. Seeveenn..Eighhhht..N-" His eyes gently closed. Both Kurt and Blaine leaned down and planted a gentle kiss on his forehead before leaving the room.
They both walked into the waiting room, sitting down in the chairs silently. "God I'm so sorry Kurt, I should have made him stay home. I shouldn't have taken him I-"
"Blaine.." Kurt reached over and grabbed Blaine's hand. "This isn't your fault..It could have happened at any of the games..Don't blame yourself."
"You should have seen him..He was in so much pain and I..I just don't want him to go through this."
Kurt nodded in agreement squeazing Blaine's hand tighter.
They spent the next fourty five minutes in the waiting room not saying a word to the other or anyone else. Just holding the others hand and taking turns wondering what was going on, or what was taking them so long.
When the doctor finally came back Kurt had his head on Blaine's shoulder half asleep and Blaine was absentmindedly running his fingers through his hair.
"Excuse me? Mr. Anderson-Hummel?"
They both looked up.
"He's in a room, I want him to stay here until he wakes up, but he can go home with you two as soon as he does."
They both nodded silently and walked into the room that Ben was sleeping in. His tiny body looked even smaller on the bed. Kurt was the first over to the side of the bed. He stroked Ben's forehead that was furrowed in his sleep.
Ben slowly opened his eyes and looked around the room. "Daddy?" He practically whispered.
"Hey buddy..How ya feel?"
"I'm good. I feel kinda funny..Like i'm laying on a cloud or something."
Kurt and Blaine both looked at each other, laughing at the little boy infront of them.
Ben looked down at his arm to see that he now had a bright orange cast on his arm. "Wow! Daddies! Look at my new cast!" He held up his arm.
"Yes it's very nice." Kurt smiled "But you might wanna take it easy with that arm for the moment okay buddy?"
"Okay.." He yawned "Am I allowed to go to sleep again?"
"Of course.." Kurt kissed his forehead making him smile. His huge hazel eyes closed again, leaving Kurt and Blaine in silence.
Blaine reached over and grabbed Kurt's hand much like the way he did the day after they'd lost regionals with the Warblers in high school.
"I love you." He said quietly, making sure he didn't wake Ben.
Kurt turned and kissed him lightly. "I love you too.." He mumbled against Blaine's lips.
