"Kurt the whole point of Halloween is to be scared," Blaine whines into the phone as he looks up ideas on how to make fake wounds.
"I don't care. There is no way I am going to Tina's party with Frankenstein's monster or a zombie or whatever grotesque reanimated corpse costume you are researching right now," Kurt replies, poring over his own materials on the floor of his closet and coming up frustrated. Blaine had had the audacity to suggest he re-wear his Gaga outfit or his costume from their production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. As if Kurt would repeat those outfits much less dress as Riff Raff in front of Blaine.
It's bad enough that he had found the pictures.
"Then what do you suggest? Do you want to do one of those couple-type costumes? Like, Dorothy and the Tin Man?" Blaine abandons his computer and flops onto his bed in resignation.
"Yes, let's just hand everyone that joke on a silver platter," Kurt says dryly and he can hear Blaine sigh on the other end of the line. "Besides, would you want to be Dorothy or should I? Personally, I don't think blue gingham goes with your skin tone. And the cut of the skirt would be all wrong for your height."
"Okay, I get it. It was just a suggestion since you seem to be failing to be of any help."
"I'm thinking," Kurt snaps but then his tone softens, "I'm sorry. But this is a creative process. Perfection takes work you know."
"I don't. You make it look so easy," Blaine says and Kurt can't help but stop picking at the fringe of some left over material and smile.
"That's sweet. But really, we need ideas. Normally I'm struck with inspiration but I don't know... Has Rachel mentioned what she's doing yet?"
"She mentioned something about Beauty and the Beast. Something about Finn being the perfect height to pull it off and--"
"She probably told him it's a werewolf costume," Kurt sighs. "Damn, I was hoping we could at least do a group thing like last year. There's no way I'm dressing up as a candlestick, though."
"You'd make a sexy candlestick," Blaine comments, purposefully dropping his voice.
"I'd say something similar but ‘You'd make a sexy clock' just doesn't have the same ring to it," Kurt replies and they both laugh. It dies down quickly though and they are back to thinking.
They are both silent for a moment until Blaine's eyes travel over his DVD collection at the same time, across town, Kurt's iPod shuffles to the next track.
"Hey! I have an idea," Blaine says at the same time that Kurt is about to speak.
"So do I," and from the way he says it Blaine can tell he is really excited. His voice has gone up and Blaine can just imagine him bouncing in place.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Oh I've always wanted to dress up like that and I had such a crush on him."
Blaine laughs, "I could say the same about my idea. What's yours?"
"I--you know what, how about we surprise each other?"
"I won't have to get my costume Kurt Hummel approved?" Blaine asks in disbelief with only a small--okay, a large-grin on his face.
Kurt pauses before answering, as if actually weighing his decision. "Yes," he says slowly. "But Blaine Anderson if you show up as anything I would not want to kiss in real life then you will have also dressed up as single for the night, understood?"
Blaine just laughs harder, rolling over on his bed as he answers, "Yes, dear."
"Okay. Good. Now, I need to get started on this if I have any chance of finishing by the party next weekend. Talk to you tomorrow?" Kurt pushes himself off the floor and begins rummaging through his closet, tossing pieces of fabric and clothing onto his bed as he does so.
"Of course. Love you," Blaine says.
"I love you, too. Good night, Blaine," Kurt answers, his thoughts already trailing to black waistcoats and sequins.
Despite their agreement to surprise each other, throughout the week preceding Tina's Halloween party the two could not help begging each other for hints. Well, Blaine has been begging, Kurt likes to think he has more patience and self-control than that.
"Can I just have a hint?" Blaine wheedles for the thousandth time, practically hanging off of Kurt's arm as they walk down the halls of McKinley that Thursday. He doesn't even notice that they have stopped at his locker until Kurt leans up against the doors and fixes him with an amused look.
"I need to get to class," is all Kurt replies with a smirk before looking around and surreptitiously kissing Blaine on the cheek and walking away.
Blaine just pouts as he turns the combination for his locker. When he opens it, however, his face immediately breaks into a toothy smile at the sight of a deep red rose, tied with a black ribbon sitting on the middle shelf next to his U.S. History textbook.
When Saturday night rolls around, Kurt's curiosity has actually piqued--idly wondering what Blaine dressed up as while he puts the finishing touches on his outfit; determined to make sure every detail is in place. He is excited to spend his first Halloween party with his boyfriend. No more hanging out solo on the couch while he watches everyone else do the Monster Mash.
Just as he's putting the final touches on making sure his hair is just right, the doorbell rings and he hears his father shout that Blaine is there. He double-checks his costume in his full-length mirror--not a single sequin is out of place--before hurrying down the stairs and nearly running headlong into Prince Charming.
Blaine is standing at the foot of the stairs with Finn (an odd tableau as Finn is already in his Beast costume) wearing an obviously homemade, but actually not too shabby, Disney's Cinderella Prince Charming costume. His ivory colored jacket is fitted with red epaulets and gold fringe. Kurt takes a moment to actually be impressed by the detail of the gold cording around the buttons and down each red pant leg. With Blaine's usually slicked back hair and always winsome smile, Kurt feels he may actually swoon right on the staircase at the sight of the storybook hero come to life before his eyes.
"Wow," Kurt breathes, taking the last few steps to stop in front of Blaine and appropriately greet him with a kiss.
"I could say the same about you," Blaine says, eyes travelling over Kurt's costume.
"Whoa, Kurt, that's... whoa," Finn adds, looking genuinely impressed by Kurt's Phantom of the Opera outfit.
"Thank you," Kurt does a little spin, the tails of his coat whipping out a little as he does so and the sequins of his bedecked waistcoat catching the light from the ceiling lights. He is dressed in head-to-toe black, in slim-fitting pants and each material seems to glitter or shine. His eyes are lightly lined in black and it makes the blue stand out even more. "It isn't quite complete yet. I still have to put on the mask and the gloves."
The doorbell rings again and Finn trumps off to get it. Kurt takes the opportunity to drag his Prince up to his bedroom because not long after he hears Rachel's voice travelling up, sounding impatient and excited.
When they get inside, Kurt turns on his heel to inspect Blaine once more. "Did you make that yourself?"
"Um, yeah," Blaine looks down as if to blush. "Well, my mom helped."
"It looks good. Very handsome," Kurt throws him a smile as he pulls on his black gloves and searches for where he placed his mask.
"Me? You could give Gerard Butler a run for his money."
Kurt is about to answer when he hears Finn shouting for both of them to "get a move on or they're going to be late and Puck is going to eat all the Butterfinger bars again this year."
Kurt rolls his eyes and finds his mask just then, turning to Blaine before something occurs to him. "You had a crush on Prince Charming?"
"What?" Blaine asks, confused and then remembering their conversation from a week ago and definitely blushing now. "Wait, you didn't?"
"Well, if I didn't then," Kurt says, sidling up to Blaine and tugging him close for a slow and firm kiss. "I definitely do now."
When they pull away, Blaine is already slightly breathless. "Well, I am glad to know the costume is approved," he says with a self-satisfied grin. "Now," Blaine straightens himself up and begins to tug Kurt down the hall to the stairs, "come with me my angel of music."
"Hey," Kurt laughs, batting at Blaine's arm as they make their way down, "that's my line!"
When Blaine just pulls him in for another kiss at the bottom of the stairs, though, Kurt could not care less.
"Blaine?" he whispers against his boyfriend's lips.
"Yeah?"
"Happy Halloween."

Loved it! ^_^ such a cute little story. =) and i love Phantom of the opera of course ;) but imagining Blaine in a prince charming costume. ahh xD
Ah it's so sweet! Especially the fact that Blaine had a crush on prince Charming. I can sooo imagine it :) Well done!
OHMYGOSH When I read that there was a rose in his locker, the art for Phantom popped into my head and I literally bounced up and down going "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA". Oh wow I can totally envision BOTH of them in those costumes and now I want to see it! This is great!
Now that season 3 has aired, I was thinking of Kurt's costume being more along the lines of what he was wearing for his NYADA audition. Before he sang 'The Boy Next Door'.
