"Blaine, we have to get to class." Kurt whined as Blaine dragged him down the hall.
"Your class doesn't start for twenty minutes, Kurt. Andale!" Kurt couldn't help but follow along when he saw the grin filling Blaine's face. He didn't know what was going on, and he usually hated surprises, but there wasn't a lot of time left before he and Blaine wouldn't be able to fool around in school together anymore, so he let Blaine have this.
The boys practically skipped through the hallways, their laughter bouncing off lockers and probably disturbing the dozens of classrooms they passed. Still, neither of them seemed to be aware of anything but each other as they raced to wherever Blaine was taking them.
They stopped at a dead-end corner of lockers, away from the classrooms and the chaos of McKinley. When he was younger, Kurt had used the place as a sort of sanctuary where area of the bullies looked for him. Since then he had shown it to Blaine, and at some point it became their own.
Kurt looked around the space, memories resurfacing of their time together. He remembered their desperate kisses after a long day apart and the lingering touches when all they needed was to be together.
Without warning, Blaine pulled him close, his hands against the small of Kurt's back as he pressed their foreheads together, and they both smiled. As many times as Blaine pulled the move, Kurt was sure that it would never really get old.
Through his smile, Kurt whispered, "Blaine, did you just make me sprint across the school for a hug?" He grazed a hand across Blaine's cheek.
"Was it worth it?" Blaine asked, pulling Kurr closer.
"I don't know, I'm a little out of breath." They both giggled.
"Well, you did say that I could take your breath away. But I actually did have a reason for bringing you here." Kurt motioned for him to continue, pulling away from the embrace. "We both know that you don't have a lot of time left here, and I would never want to forget how amazing this time was." Before Kurt could ask what he meant, Blaine pulled an old-fashioned camera from his bag, the kind that spat out the photographs from the bottom.
"You want to take pictures?"
Blaine nodded, flashing a proud grin. "Come on, sit with me!" He pleaded, sitting down and patting the floor beside him.
In submission, Kurt sank next to Blaine on the floor, his back against the bottom set of lockers. Blaine held the camera in front of both of them, and while Kurt just gave a happy smile, Blaine snuck his head into the crevice between Kurt's shoulder and his neck, and pretended not to notice Kurt's smile strech impossibly wider as he shot the picture.
He pulled the camera back to them and gently pulled the photo from it, watching their black-and-white faces fade onto the paper. Kurt blushed, his heart skipping a beat when he saw them together, Blaine's smile more dazzling than anything Kurt could imagine. He never thought he could look as beautiful as Blaine, but he didn't say anything; he just enjoyed their moment, captured perfectly in a blurry photo.
Without thinking, Kurt slipped a finger under Blaine's chin and coaxed him into a kiss, their dry lips sticking as they moved slowly together. Blaine ran a hand to the back of Kurt's head, holding him there as Kurt heard the click of a second shot.
Pulling the photo from Blaine's hands, Kurt looked at it and swore that he could never see a more intimate shot. Even though he was half the subject, Kurt couldn't help but feel like he was intruding as he let his eyes linger on the frozen moment. Despite the lower angle of the photo, it was perhaps clearer than the first: he could practically feel the pure, unadulterated love floating between them, their entire essence somehow captured perfectly in just one instant.
His breath hitched as he tried to speak, willing his eyes to dry themselves. "C-can I keep this one?"
Blaine nodded, his own eyes wetting as well. He stared down at his own photo, wondering how quickly he had changed from the smiling boy in the photo to the one with tears in his eyes.
"Kurt," he began, and one tear slowly dripped down his face. His heart skipped a beat as Kurt brushed it away with a gentle thumb, bringing Blaine's face to meet his. Blaine sucked in a breath, quietly adding, "I'm going to miss you." He tried to laugh, but as soon as he let out a breath a rush of tears fell down his cheeks, and Kurt just pulled the boy into his grasp, letting Blaine sob quietly into his chest while their arms were clenched around each other. Kurt didn't say anything because as much as he wanted to be able to handle this, Kurt had no idea what to do. He looked at the smiling couple, kissing by the lockers. I can do that, he thought. He knew how to do kisses and smiles and he knew how to be blissfully in love. What he didn't know was how to say goodbye.
So Kurt stuck with familiarity, and whispered into the hallway, "I will always love you," because he didn't know how to think any other way.
