Kurt didn't know Blaine played the piano. Until he did.
Author's Notes: Can't thank Josi enough for beta-ing, you're really really cool, dude.
It wasn’t long after Kurt transferred to Dalton he found out that Blaine played the piano. Stressing, Kurt had decided to fit in some last minute studying for an exam before Warbler practice, but all the French verbs in the world couldn’t pull him away from what he found inside the practice room.
It was Blaine, lost in his own little world with his eyes shut and fingers flitting over the keys, a soft melody echoing from beneath the lid of the piano. He was playing a song Kurt didn’t recognise, the calm staccato making way for a many layered chorus and Kurt couldn’t see how it could be played by only one person. Kurt couldn’t understand how this Blaine, this calm, graceful young man was the same person who bounced instead of walked, the fidgety, bubbly boy so full of heart and life.
Kurt sunk into one of the big leather couches, all thoughts of homework forgotten as he relaxed, the tension fading from his shoulders.
Kurt didn’t realise when Blaine finished the song, the final strains echoing through the room and fading softly. The music still echoed on in his mind, but it was a pale imitation. He wanted Blaine to keep playing, but couldn’t seem to find the words to tell him so. The other boy seemed to understand, though, flashing a smile at his friend struck dumb, placing his fingers back on the keys.
This song was more upbeat, with a more familiar tune, but Kurt couldn’t gather enough mental function to place it. It didn’t matter, though, he was just content to lie back and forget his troubles, head resting on the back of the couch, if only for a couple of minutes.

Kurt opened his eyes to find a bemused Blaine looking down at him from his position on the piano stool, the piano now silent behind him.
“Feel better?”
“I-I think so,” Kurt said, blinking, barely processing the question.
Blaine’s voice, still almost feather light and a glowing accompaniment to his soft smile, pervaded the air yet again. “You must – you fell asleep. You’re going to ace your exam, Kurt.”
“I hope so,” Kurt said, forgetting to wonder why Blaine even knew how stressed he was, as much as he tried to hide it. “You’re amazing.”
Blaine’s eyes sparkled like he wanted to ask if Kurt even realised he’d said that out loud. Instead, he said: “Maybe we could do a duet sometime? I mean, if you’d like. We don’t have to.”
“I…I’d love to.” Kurt said, stunned.
“Great!” He beamed, and offered a hand to help Kurt up. “I think the guys are waiting for us. And you know how Thad gets when people are late.” He winked, a smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
Kurt took Blaine’s hand and grinned gratefully as they walked down the halls. Neither boy noticed they never let go.
End Notes: So I hope you enjoyed it & let me know what you think!
