"Oooooooh, let's watch stars! No, make s'mores! NO, LET'S GO ON AN ADVENTURE."
"Whoa, there, tiger! We've got all night. What do you want to do first?" Blaine asked their four year old son, Thomas, kneeling down next to him in the dirt, a couple of leaves crunching under his hiking boots. Kurt smiled fondly at the pair from afar, helping his father set up the tent.
"That son of yours is a jitterbug." Burt mused, fumbling with one of the pins that was supposed to be holding down a corner of the tent, but instead kept slipping out of the mud. Kurt laughed and nodded, pinning his corner down with ease and wiping at his mildly sweaty forehead.
"Thomas gets his energy from Blaine, that's for sure." He sighed, watching his husband and son in search for marshmallows, Thomas tossing around items like their giant flashlight, bug repellant, and walkie talkies ("It's for effect!" Thomas had argued earlier when Blaine suggested they leave the walkie talkies at home).
"I dunno, kiddo, you were a pretty energetic four year old yourself." Burt smiled at him over the tent stilts, as if he was remembering a fond memory. Kurt grinned back at his father.
"But was I that energetic?" He wondered, gesturing over to where Thomas was running around Blaine in circles while his daddy set up the campfire. Burt cocked his head to the side, making a small grunting noise.
"Nah, I guess not. That's Blaine's gene." He finally agreed, nodding his head and chuckling quietly as Thomas tripped over a rock.
"Oh, man, Tommy, you okay?" Blaine asked hesitantly, helping Thomas up. Thomas just giggled away and hugged Blaine's leg.
"Yeah, okay, daddy!" He replied enthusiastically. When he noticed the tent was all sit up, Thomas waved exaggeratedly at Burt and Kurt. "Papa, Grand-papa! Come!"
"What a trooper." Kurt whispered under his breath, smiling and approaching the other two loves of his life. "Hey, buddy." He said, patting down Thomas' hair wear it had gone all messy from falling. "Ready for some s'mores?" He asked, getting down to Thomas' level and kissing his forehead.
"S'MORES! S'MORES! S'MORES!" Thomas chanted, jumping up and down and clinging to Kurt's neck. Burt laughed and pried Thomas' arms from around Kurt's neck and sat him down on a log, sitting down next to him as Kurt and Blaine started a fire, toasted some marshmallows, and assembled some s'mores. Thomas crawled into Burt's lap and held his hands, biting his lip to keep from squealing in excitement.
"I take it he likes camping." Kurt noted, placing a marshmallow where Blaine held two graham crackers apart. Blaine chuckled and nodded, adding a square of chocolate to the mix and putting the creation on a paper plate, handing it to Burt to give to Thomas.
"I'd say." Blaine agreed, smiling up at Kurt over another s'more. Kurt smiled back at him, his eyes going crinkly from how happy he was. "I like camping too." Blaine added.
"Well, I like you." Kurt giggled, leaning in and pressing a quick kiss to Blaine's lips, to which Blaine kissed him back and hummed contentedly.
"You're not so bad yourself." Blaine replied, waving a s'more in front of Kurt's face, offering it to him. Kurt graciously bit into the s'more, laughing as the chocolate oozed out the other side.
"Alright you lovebirds." Burt grumbled, bouncing Thomas on his lap. "There's more than just the two of you here." He teased, placing the, now empty, paper plate down on the log next to him. Kurt and Blaine both blushed, still smiling at each other. Kurt held Blaine's hand and nudged him with his elbow.
"You're right, Dad." Kurt sighed lovingly, squeezing Blaine's hand. "It's the four of us now."
