Blaine’s hand was intertwined with Kurt’s, their fingers laced together over the handle of Max’s leash, the golden retriever eagerly trotting along as the family strolled through the park. Elizabeth was hoisted over Kurt’s shoulder, an old but familiar Margaret Thatcher Dog plushie gently hanging on within her grasp while she was sleeping. Kurt smiled to himself as the small snuffly noises Elizabeth made, muffled against the material of his shirt, drifted softly into his ear.
“You know, I think she gets the snoring from you. Although, her snoring is more of a cute, little whimper. You just rumble.” Kurt glanced in his husband’s direction, giggling softly as to not wake their daughter.
“Hey! I definitely do not rumble. If anything, Ellie got the cute, little whimper from me.” Blaine retorted, unable to keep the smug grin off his face.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say, Daddy.” Kurt gave Blaine’s hand a gentle squeeze, his thumb naturally running gently along Blaine’s knuckle as he smiled warmly at him.
Central Park was buzzing with life this sunny afternoon. Families had laid out picnic blankets among the grass, couples were out jogging with their own eager pets, and children were running around, completely unaware and carefree of anything other than immersing themselves in the joy of Springtime with their friends.
The three continued down the trail, Max tugging forward particularly hard every now and then whenever a squirrel scurrying past caught his attention.
“Oh, there go the Hummel-Andersons!” A voice came from across the path as Kurt and Blaine’s friends, whom they’d met in daycare, approached with their own pet in tow and their son wildly circling around their legs.
“Tom! Catherine! How are you two?” Blaine flashed a warm smile and let go of Kurt’s hand, passing Max’s leash over as he outstretched his arm for a firm but friendly handshake.
“Oh, we’re doing wonderfully. The park certainly is beautiful today.” Catherine smiled in response. “Oh, and look! Isn’t little Elizabeth getting so big?” The woman cooed in Kurt’s direction, Elizabeth stirring awake against her father’s shoulder, her nose now nuzzled against his neck.
Kurt chuckled when she made a small noise and buried her face deeper against his shirt collar. “Ohh, yes. Ellie’s certainly getting bigger. She’ll be three this year.” He smiled at his friends as he handed Blaine Max’s leash and readjusted Elizabeth in his arms. “Oh, and look at Nathan! Someone’s grown, huh big man?” Kurt smiled down at the boy who had fixated his attention up at Kurt’s face as he spoke, blinking blankly for a moment and then turning to shyly hide his face in Tom’s pant leg.
His father laughed and reached down to ruffle his hair.
“Yup, the kids certainly grow up fast, don’t they? They’ll be talking back and dying their hair and then moving out to go to college before you know it.”
Kurt and Blaine both laughed and nodded, their reactions seemingly perfectly in sync, and then both couples bid their goodbyes and parted ways, continuing on with their walks.
“They’re really nice. I like them. And Ellie and Nathan get along pretty well.” Kurt smiled to himself as he bounced Elizabeth gently, her small arms now moving to wrap around his neck. “Don’t you, sweetie?” He smiled, but Ellie just pouted and rubbed her eyes before ducking her head back down on his shoulder.
Blaine chuckled, wrapping Max’s leash tighter around his hand, and looked adoringly at Kurt, smiling at the sight of his husband and his daughter wrapped up in each other’s arms. ”I like these walks. We should do this more often.”
Kurt turned his head to meet Blaine’s eyes and saw the way that they were smiling at him, the twinkle almost visible. “I think so too.” He leaned over to press a soft kiss to Blaine’s cheek, his husband grinning in response.
“Heeey, I want kisses tooooo!” Elizabeth turned in Kurt’s arms and reached out for Blaine, waving her small arms frantically. “Daaaddddyyy!”
Kurt laughed and passed her over to Blaine, taking Max’s leash from his hand once his arms were wrapped around Elizabeth’s small body.
“C’mere, Munchkin! I’ll give you loooots of kisses! Mwah, mwah, mwah!” Elizabeth squealed and giggled as Blaine smothered her face in cute, little kisses, making dramatic pouty lips and kissy sounds.
“Eeeeeeee! Too many, Daddy! Too many! What about Papa?!” Elizabeth squeaked and then turned in Blaine’s arms to face Kurt. “I need kisses from you, Papa! Daddy gave me too many!” She mimicked Blaine and pursed her lips as well, batting her eyelashes and eliciting an amused chuckle from Kurt.
“Oh? Munchkin hasn’t already gotten enough kisses from Daddy? Well, come here then, sweetie!” Kurt grinned and leaned over to cup Elizabeth’s face with both hands, kissing her cheeks and her nose and her forehead until she finally squirmed away, giggling and hiding her face in Blaine’s chest.
Kurt pulled back to look at Blaine, catching the same wide grin spread across his lips that he knew was on his own face as well.
