When The Heart Slowly Breaks

3x17 "Dance With Somebody"I couldn't help but think about what happened right before Kurt walked in on Blaine with his phone in hand. And I had this idea for a short drabble that would describe Blaine's feelings when he was all alone in Kurt's room and discovered Chandler's texts.

Author's Notes: This is the very first time I've written fanfiction. I just had this idea for a drabble, and I just *had* to write it down. Please don't be too hard on me, I'm still learning. I've read tons of fanfics, but never written one, so this is all very new to me... I'd love reviews with encouraging remarks or helpful advice, so that maybe I can continue writing in the future...

Blaine found himself alone in Kurt’s room, sitting on the bed, while Kurt was fetching them a snack so they could start their ‘Being Bobby Brown’ marathon. He wasn’t really surprised that his boyfriend took this week’s Whitney assignment very seriously, and when Kurt asked him if he wanted to watch it together because they hadn’t really seen each other outside of school this week, Blaine figured it was the least he could do.

While Kurt was still upstairs in the kitchen, working on their cheese plate, Blaine let his mind wander. He thought about what mr. Schue said, that these were the last weeks at McKinley for most of the Glee club members. Kurt included. Just a couple more months, and Kurt would be gone. Out of here. Like he so desperately wanted.

It hit him again. Kurt would be gone. Miles and miles away, chasing his dream. And Blaine was proud of his boyfriend, he really was, and he tried to be supportive, but… What about him? They talked about NYADA all the time, way more than Blaine wanted to, but somehow the conversations were always about Kurt. Kurt’s callback, songs Kurt could sing for his audition, outfits Kurt could wear, how exciting Kurt’s life in New York was gonna be, the amazing new people Kurt was gonna meet. Never once had they talked about what would happen to him, Blaine, when Kurt would be in New York and he’d be left alone, his boyfriend having the time of his life without him.

Just like all the previous times he’d been thinking about this, Blaine felt the tears coming. This time, however, he composed himself because he heard the faint buzzing of Kurt’s phone, lying on the other side of the bed, just out of his reach.

Blaine made a mental note to tell Kurt he had a text when he came back. He decided to start taking his shoes of and lie down on the bed. Just as he bent forward to untie them, Kurt’s phone buzzed again. And when Blaine turned around and crawled on the bed to grab it, he heard another buzz. Maybe it’s important, Blaine thought. He knew Kurt didn’t like it when people messed with his phone, not even when it was Blaine, but, after thinking about it for a second, Blaine decided to go for it anyway. I’ll just take a look to see who’s texting him, to see if it’s important. Right before he could slide his thumb across the screen to unlock it, a buzz indicated that he’d received another text. He unlocked the screen and checked the name of the sender. Chandler. Blaine didn’t know anyone with that name. Kurt had told him about his family, but he never talked about a Chandler. Curiosity getting the better of him, he decided to read one of the texts.

And that’s when he felt his heart break.

“When we go to New York, let’s go to the front of the Plaza and re-enact the end of The Way We Were.

*crack*

“Can you sing into my voice mail? I want to make your voice my ringtone.”

*crack*

Blaine used his index finger to scroll up a little to read some older texts.

“Are you an astronaut? ‘Cause your smile is out of this world.”

*crack*

He kept reading. Dozens and dozens of texts, all from that same boy. And with every new text he read, Blaine felt another piece of his heart breaking off.

*crack*

*crack*

*crack*

*crack*

*crack*

A single tear rolled down his cheek. No, Blaine thought. This can’t be happening. Kurt would never do that. He loves me. He’d never cheat on me. But the evidence was right there, in his hand.

More tears were starting to fall, and Blaine felt the urge to throw the phone against the wall. But just as he raised his hand, he heard Kurt’s footsteps on the stairs. He quickly wiped his tear-stained face with his sleeve, and went back to his original position, sitting at the end of the bed, with the phone still clutched in his hand.

And, right on cue, Kurt came in.
