Written before we knew about the 'Blaine cheating' storyline. Blaine breaks up with Kurt to set him free, but realizes his mistake.
Blaine regretted everything he said as soon as he saw Kurt running away, in tears. Blaine wanted nothing more than to run after him, but he’d known Kurt for a long time now, knew him better than he knew himself, so as hard as it was at that moment, he knew he needed to give him space.
About 1 hour after Kurt had left, Blaine felt confident enough to head back to the apartment, texting Rachel so she could open the door for him. He didn’t ask Kurt, couldn’t talk to him. Not yet.
He quietly opened the door and saw Rachel sitting on her bed. “He was crying and he went straight to bed. Didn’t wanna talk.” Blaine nodded and whispered a silent “Thank you”, before heading to Kurt’s bed.
The sight made him choke up once again. Kurt was lying in his bed, face down, in nothing but his boxers, the sheets barely covering him. His clothes were thrown over a chair and Blaine just knew he hadn’t done his facial routine. When he walked a little closer, Blaine could clearly see the tear stains on the cheek that wasn’t pressed into the pillow.
He walked over to his side of the bed and started taking off his clothes, before quietly sliding in next to Kurt. He just lay there for a moment, on his back, as far away from the other boy as possible. Five minutes went by, but it seemed like hours.
Blaine felt the need to apologize, to tell Kurt he hadn’t meant it like that, that he still loved him and that he’d been stupid for trying to let go.
He turned on his side, now facing Kurt’s sleeping form. He propped himself up on his elbow, and before he knew what he was doing, started writing words on Kurt’s naked back with his index finger. His lips opened slightly, and in a quiet murmur, so he wouldn’t wake Rachel, he started singing.
You think I’m pretty
Without any makeup on
You think I’m funny
When I tell the punch line wrong
I know you get me
So I let my walls come down
Down
He sang the entire song, not skipping a single verse or chorus, writing the lyrics on Kurt’s back as he sang them. He thought he heard a slight hitch in Kurt’s breath right after he’d finished the refrain for the first time, but Kurt stayed perfectly still and didn’t move an inch.
When there was nothing left to sing, Blaine lay down again and, after two or three heartbeats, added “I’m so sorry Kurt. I was so stupid. Please, forgive me.”
He wasn’t sure if Kurt had heard him, or if his singing and touching had really woken him up. But when, five minutes later, Kurt snuggled into his side, hooking a leg around both of his and his breath a soft puff against his neck, Blaine thought he might have.
And when Kurt’s first actions the next morning were stroking his cheek with the back of his hand, and saying “It’s okay. Let’s just never look back.”, Blaine knew he had.
