"Okay, before we go in here and find out what the doctor has to say, I want you to promise me you won't freak out and shut down again. I honestly don't know if I can handle that again Blaine." Kurt and Blaine were standing outside James' hospital room. Andrea, Carole, and Doctor Thomas were already in the room talking to James.
"I promise. I wasn't prepared last time." Blaine had given himself a pep talk on the way to the hospital.
"And you're prepared now? What if-"
"Can we just go in?" Blaine interupted. He was nervous and just wanted to get this over with.
"Yeah, sure, let's go." Kurt pushed open the door and followed Blaine inside, preparing himself for the worst.
"Blaine, Kurt, have a seat." Andrea smiled tiredly at them, not wasting any time.
"Okay, now that everybody is here, I'll get started." Doctor Thomas opened the file he was holding and started reading. "Well Mr. Anderson, it looks like the extra radiation has halted the spread of the cancer, but it hasn't wiped it out completely."
"What does that mean?" Carole asked.
"It means we'll have to continue with treatments, but now that it has stopped spreading, it should be easier to treat."
"So, it's good news then?" James wanted to be sure before he got too excited.
"It's not great news, but yes, it's good news." Doctor Thomas smiled. "From now on your treatments will be done just like before.
"Thank you Doctor." James let out a sigh of relief.
"We'll need to keep you here for a while longer, just as a precaution. Once we make sure the cancer doesn't start spreading again, we'll be able to release you." Doctor Thomas stood and shook hands with everyone. "I'll leave you all to celebrate, the nurse will be around if you need anything.
"Did you hear that? It stopped spreading!" James looked around the room at his family.
"Congratulations James, this is wonderful news. Burt will be very happy to hear, I'm sorry he couldn't be here, I'm going to go call him right now and let him know."
"Blaine?" Kurt wondered why Blaine was so quiet, this was better news than anyone expected.
"Yeah, uh sorry. I was- sorry." Blaine had stopped listening when the doctor had said the cancer had stopped spreading, that was something he could only have dreamed for.
"You okay?" Kurt asked, looking at Blaine worriedly.
"I'm better than okay. This is- I just-" Blaine couldn't think of the right words to express himself.
"I know." Kurt squeezed Blaine's hand. "I'm going to go find Carole. I'll be in the waiting room if you need me."
"You don't have to leave Kurt, you're our family." Andrea spoke up.
"I know. I just want to give you guys some time to yourselves. I need to make some phone calls anyway."
"Hey Kurt." James called out.
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
Kurt just smiled and left the room to find Carole.
"So, how are things going in New York?" Andrea asked.
"Pretty good, I'm still working at the coffee shop." Blaine moved to sit closer to his mom as he talked.
"That's good, you like it there don't you?"
"Yeah I do, it's really fun. I'm hoping to be getting some auditions soon though."
"Whatever makes you happy son." James spoke up. "What about Kurt?"
"Oh uh, he got a job as the main costume designer for an Off-Broadway production of Les Mis."
"Oh wow, that's amazing!"
"Yeah, I'm really proud of him, he's been working so hard."
"Well of course he has, it's Kurt we're talking about." James laughed. He expected nothing less from his son-in-law.
"True, very true." Blaine smiled. Everything wasn't completely back to normal, but he felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders now that they'd gotten some good news.
"I called Rachel, we're not going back for her party. I told her where we hid her gift so she could go get it." Kurt said later that evening. He and Blaine were at the Anderson home, curled up on Blaine's old bed.
"What are we going to do then?"
"Stay here. We'll leave Sunday afternoon."
"While we're in, we should see if any of our friends are around and meet up with them." Blaine suggested.
"Way ahead of you. Tina and Sam are meeting us for lunch at Breadstix tomorrow."
Blaine pulled Kurt closer and kissed him. "You're the best."
"I know." Kurt smiled and kissed him back.
They spent the rest of the evening talking and cuddling and not worrying about anything other than each other.
"Kurt! Blaine!" Tina rushed up to them as soon as they walked through the door at Breadstix.
"Tina, how are you? It's been forever since we've seen you." Blaine hugged her. With everyone's busy schedules, it's hard to find time to catch up.
"I'm great! Sam's in the bathroom, he should be out any minute. How are you guys?" Tina asked, leading them to their table.
"Good, good. Working non-stop, but we can't really can we complain." Kurt answered as they sat down.
"How's your dad doing Blaine?"
"He's better, there's still a long way to go, but he's making progress."
"That's great, oh, there's Sam." Tina pointed towards the restrooms.
"Hey guys, long time so see." Sam sat down across from Tina.
"No kidding. How are you?" Blaine really did miss his friends.
"Pretty good. I got a job at a music store in Columbus giving guitar lessons to kids."
"Sam, that's awesome!" Kurt exclaimed.
"Yeah man, congrats." Blaine nodded in agreement.
"Thanks, it's fun working with the kids, they remind me of us when we were in school."
"That makes us sound old Sam." Tina laughed.
"Well, most of us have graduated college already, we're getting there."
"I'm not getting old. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not." Kurt said seriously.
"Kurt, you'll be sixty years old and still look young."
"Yes, because I moisturize Blaine, unlike you."
"Okay, okay, you two can argue later. Tell us all about the excitements of New York!" Tina hurried to change the subject.
"Well, Blaine's still working at the coffee shop."
"And Kurt got a job as the main costume designer for the Off-Broadway production of Les Mis."
"The one that Rachel and Adam are in?" Tina asked.
"Yep, that's the one."
"Dude, that's awesome!" Sam gave Kurt a high five.
"Thanks, it's an amazing job."
"There is one more thing that has changed recently." Blaine started.
"Blaine, I thought-"
"We said we wouldn't tell our parents, this is Tina and Sam."
"I know but-"
"Come on Kurt, they won't say anything." Blaine pleaded.
"Oh, alright, fine. You can tell them." Kurt couldn't say no to Blaine when he looked at him like that.
"Thank you. Anyway, we have decided to have a baby." Blaine announced proudly.
"Oh my God! Really?"
"Dude, that's amazing."
"Kurt actually brought it up and I was hesitant at first, but now I'm excited. We're using Lucy as our surrogate."
"Wait, so you've already like, done it?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, we're waiting to see if she's actually pregnant before we tell our family." Kurt explained.
"Which on of you is the bio dad?"
"Blaine is."
"Aww that's amazing guys, you'll make wonderful parents." Tina smiled.
"Thanks guys, we'll find out in about ten to fourteen days if she's pregnant"
"You better call me when you find out."
"We will, I promise."
They spent the whole day hanging out with Tina and Sam. It felt good to get away from everything and just have fun with their friends.
