The next morning, Kurt woke up early to fix breakfast before he and Blaine headed back to the hospital.
He was just setting the last plate on the table when Blaine stumbled into the kitchen.
"Why are we at you're parents' house?"
"You were tired so Dad and Carole told me to bring you here to rest while they stayed at the hospital. Come on, breakfast is ready." Kurt pulled out a chair motioning for Blaine it sit.
"I'm not hungry."
"Blaine, please don't shut down like this."
"I'm not, I'm just not hungry." Blaine sighed and sat down anyway. He didn't want to fight with Kurt.
"I find that very hard to believe, you haven't eaten since lunch yesterday. At least eat a pancake, that's all I'm asking."
"I should be at the hospital."
Kurt sat his fork down, looking at Blaine with a careful expression. "Tell me honestly, what good would it do?"
"I-I don't know, but I should be there. Don't tell me you wouldn't feel the same if it were Burt." Blaine's tone was so cold, it left Kurt speechless.
They finished breakfast in a less than comfortable silence. Blaine refused to look at Kurt while they got ready, he didn't even speak when Kurt asked him if he wanted to drive. He just walked past him and went to get in on the passenger side, leaving Kurt to lock up the house.
"And you think this will work?"
"Well, it's not going to hurt, it's our last option."
Blaine could hear the doctor talking as he and Kurt walked up to the door. He took a deep breath before entering, finding Burt, Carole, and his mother all talking to the doctor while his father slept.
"Blaine, Kurt, this is Doctor Thomas, he's in charge of James' care." Carole introduced them.
"What were you talking about right before we walked in?" Blaine asked.
"I want to double your father's radiation treatments. If we can stop the cancer from spreading, we'll stand a better chance of getting rid of it."
"Will it work?"
"I honestly don't know, but like I told your mother it's really our last option, everything else we've tried has failed."
Blaine just nodded, he felt sick. "E-excuse me." He ran off towards the bathroom before anyone could ask him what was wrong.
"Should we-"
"I'll go." Kurt knew Blaine wouldn't want his mom to see him like this, so he followed Blaine with a sad sigh.
Fifteen minutes later, Blaine and Kurt walked back inot the room. This time the doctor and Carole were gone and James was awake.
"Blaine, Kurt, come here. I want to talk to you." James spoke up as soon as he saw them.
"You look better today." Blaine noticed his father seemed stronger than he had the day before.
"I feel better. Actually, that's what I want to talk to you about. I've discussed this with your mother, Burt and Carole and we all agree that it's a good idea."
"Why do I have the feeling I'm not going to like this?"
"Just hear me out, listen and think before you say no. We all think it would be best if you and Kurt went back to New York, for now at least."
"Dad-"
"No Blaine, there's really nothing you can do for me. If we need you, we'll call, but right now, there's no reason for you to stay."
"You can't be serious."
"Blaine, I-I think he has a point." Kurt tried reasoning with Blaine.
"Would you still think that if it was your dad laying there?"
"Blaine Devon Anderson-Hummel!" Andrea couldn't believe Blaine would even say such a thing.
"It's alright Andrea. Blaine, look me in the eye and tell me what good it would do if we stayed. If you can give me a good reason, then we'll say, no questions asked."
Blaine sighed and looking into Kurt's eyes, so full of love and worry. That's when he realized, Kurt was right. "I-I- you're right. I'm sorry Kurt, I-"
"Don't. I know, it's okay, I understand."
Blaine turned back to his father. "Promise me you'll call if anything happens."
"We promise. You go back to New York and you worry about yourselves. I have plenty of people here worrying about me."
"I-I love you Dad." Blaine hugged his father, not knowing when he'd get the chance again.
"I love you too son." James hugged him back, hoping Blaine would know just how much he meant it.
"I-I'm going to go get the car." Blaine glanced at Kurt. He just needed to get out of that room.
"Okay honey, I'll be right behind you." Kurt watched Blaine leave before turning back to James.
"Take care of him, he likes to keep everything bottled up so he doesn't have to burden anyone else with his problems. Don't let him do that, it's not going to do him or anyone else any good."
"I'll take care of him, I know how he can get, and I'll make sure he doesn't. He's just scared."
"I'm glad he has you Kurt. Thank you."
Kurt just smiled and hugged them all before leaving. He would have to wait until they got back to New York to talk to Blaine about his plan, but first there was someone else he needed to talk to about it. He pulled out his phone and dialed the number as he walked.
"Lucy, hey it's Kurt. I want to ask you something, feel free to say no, but no matter what your answer is, you have to promise not to tell Blaine, not yet at least."
"O-okay. Kurt you're scaring me, you know I'd do anything for you guys, just name it."
Kurt took a deep breath and explained everything as fast as he could. Once he was finished, he waited for Lucy to give him an answer.
"I told you I'd do anything for you guys, and I meant it. I'd love to do this for you, of course my answer is yes."
"Thank you Lucy." Kurt let out a sigh of relief, now all he had to do was talk to Blaine about it. He just hopes Blaine will want to do this as much as he does, he'll talk to him as soon as they get back to New York.
