Blaine woke up the next morning to his phone ringing. Looking at the screen, a smile formed on his face. "Hello there handsome."
"Good morning sleeping beauty, I've been calling for the past fifteen minutes." Kurt said with a laugh.
"Sorry. Jesus, what time is it?" Blaine rolled out of bed with a groan, walking to the bathroom.
"8:30, I'm surprised you're still in bed, you're usually up at the ass crack of dawn."
"A lot of shit happened after you left. When you get to English class, tell Wes I said to be nice to my students." Blaine sat the phone on the counter so he could brush his teeth.
"Wait, you know Mr. Montgomery? How?" Kurt asked, shocked.
"High school." Blaine mumbled around his tooth brush.
"Huh, wow, okay. So anyway, are we still set for our Disney movie marathon after school?"
"Um, actually, I don't know. I'm uh- I'm going to go see my mom today and I don't know when I'll be home. You're welcome to go to my apartment anyway though, you know where the spare key is."
"No no, it's fine. Just call me when you get home okay? Go enjoy spending time with your mom."
"Easier said than done. I'll have to tell her about getting fired and why I got fired, which means I have to tell her about you."
"Is she not okay with you being gay or-"
She's not against it, but I think she gets a little uncomfortable when I talk about it. She loves me though, she's never actually said anything, just her body language, you know?"
"What about your dad?" Kurt had never heard Blaine talk so openly about his parents before.
"He's uh- he loves me, I know he does, it's just- our relationship is strained."
"Oh. I'm sorry Blaine, I-"
"Don't be, it's fine. He loves me and I love him, that's all that matters in the end. Don't you have classes to be getting to?"
"Maybe." Kurt teased. "Call me later?"
"Absolutely. I love you Kurt."
"I love you too. Have fun with your mom."
"Thanks, I'll try. See ya later."
"Yeah yeah. Bye."
Blaine hung up with a sigh. He noticed that he had a voicemail so he pressed play as he went to pick out his outfit for the day.
"Hey sweetie, it's your mom. I got your message and I just wanted to say that I'm glad you finally called. I've been worried about you. As for lunch, that would be lovely, just call me when you get this and we'll set something up. I love you Blainey and I can't wait to see you."
Once he got dressed and fixed his hair, Blaine dialed his mother's number. She picked up on the second ring.
"Blainey?"
"Hey mom, yeah, it's me."
"Oh Blaine, it's so good to hear your voice. I've missed you so much." Andrea Anderson was almost in tears at hearing her youngest son's voice again.
"I know mom, I've missed you too. I'm sorry I haven' called before now, it's just- it's been a really crazy year." Blaine didn't want to tell her over the phone, this needed to be done on person.
"It's okay darling, you're calling now, that's what's important." Andrea could tell Blaine had a lot he needed to say, he almost sounded nervous.
"So uh, lunch, are you free or-"
"I took the whole day off, so I could be free to spend time with you. What about you? Are you free?"
"Yeah, I'm free. So uh, when, where-"
"Why don't you come over to the house? Your father's away on business all this week and I could use some company."
"Okay. I'll be there soon." Blaine tried to hide the relief in his voice when she said his dad was gone. He may be an adult, but his father was still a very scary man sometimes.
"Okay sweetie, I'll see you when you get here. I love you."
"I love you too mom." He hung up, grabbed his wallet and headed out the door.
"Blaine! Oh my, come in and let me look at you. It's been far too long since I've seen you." Andrea pulled Blaine inside the Anderson home before he could even ring the doorbell.
"I see nothing's changed since I left." Blaine noted the house looked exactly the same as it did when he still lived here.
"No, nothing's changed here, but look at you, you've changed. You're all grown up."
"Yeah, I guess." Blaine laughed, following his mom to the sitting room.
"Why don't I go fix us some coffee and then you can tell me everything you need to tell me."
"That sounds perfect mom." Blaine sat down on the sofa, looking all around at his childhood home. So many memories were made here, and not all of them were good.
Andrea came back with the coffee, sitting down beside Blaine. "So, you moved to Lima to teach high school, yet here you are on a Monday morning, asking me to have lunch. What's going on sweetie?"
"I-I got fired, again." Blaine had hoped to ease his way into this conversation, but that didn't seem to be happening.
"What? Why? What happened this time?"
"I was accused of being romantically involved with one of my students."
"Are you kidding me? Again? They can't do this! It's not right!"
"Mom, I'm not done, let me finish. This time, they had every reason to do it. I have been seeing one of my students, still am." He held his breath, waiting.
"Blaine, w-what- honey, why?"
"I love him mom. His name's Kurt, he's a senior, 18 years old. He's smart, funny, caring, and he loves me back, I wouldn't change what happened because that would mean denying my love for him, and I couldn't do that."
"18? Blaine you're 25, that's seven years."
"So? You and dad are five years apart, it's only two more years for me and Kurt."
Andrea looked at her son, her baby boy and saw that he truly meant what he said. His eyes were full of love when he mentioned this Kurt boy. "You uh, you really care about this boy, don't you?"
"Yes I do mom. I love him, I love him more than anything in the world, he's my soulmate. I almost lost him twice, I couldn't bare to deny my feelings just to save my job, he means more to me than that."
"What do you mean you almost lost him twice? What happened?" Andrea could see fear in her son's eyes.
"H-he was bullied at school and got put in the hospital, then after we started dating, I brought him for dinner here in Westerville and the same bully followed us and beat both of us with a tire iron. I could've lost him them, he got it worse than I did.
"Oh my- Blaine! Sweetie, oh my God! Why didn't you call? I-I- Blaine Devon Anderson, you could've died and you didn't call home and let your family know about this? What is wrong with you?!" Andrea when from being upset to angry in record time.
"I'm sorry Mom, I just- I wasn't ready to tell you about Kurt and I didn't know how to tell you without bringing him up. I'm so sorry Mom, I really am." Blaine felt bad for not letting his mom know about the attack.
"Kurt, is he okay now?"
"Yeah, yeah he's fine, and the boy who attacked us has been arrested and charged."
"Blaine, I'm going to ask you a couple of things and I want you to answer me honestly, okay?"
"Yeah, okay."
"First, do Kurt's parents know about him dating his teacher who's 25?"
"Yes, and they're okay with it, I promise."
"Okay, I believe you. One more thing, is the reason you haven't told us about Kurt because you were afraid of what we'd say about you dating one of your students?"
"Honestly, yes. I got fired from my last job for being gay and I didn't want you to think it was just me being a pervert. I really love Kurt and I don't see him as a kid, he's a man, a man who I can't imagine living without."
Andrea just nodded, taking Blaine's hands in hers. "You listen to me Blaine, I know you, you're my son, and I know you'd never just mess around with anyone, student or not. I can tell you really love this boy, I haven't seen a smile that honest on your face since you were a kid. That being said, I want you to remember hat he's only 18, that's young. Don't push him, don't pressure him. I remember your senior year of high school, you were planning your future with Sebastian Smythe."
"I know mom, he knows I'm not forcing him to stay with me. He knows he's free to dump my sorry ass and move on, I won't stop him. I would never do anything to hurt him, never."
"Okay then, as long as you promise me that, then I see no problem with it. He's 18 and legal, just be careful."
"Thank you Mom, I love you." Blaine pulled his mom in for a hug, letting out a relieved laugh.
"I love you too Blainey. I want you to do one more thing for me, I want to meet this boy, okay?" Andrea asked, pulling away to look at Blaine.
"Okay, that's great Mom. I'll see when he's free to come over one evening before Dad get's back."
"Good. Speaking of your father, you and I will tell him about all of this, together. I know he can be difficult sometimes."
"Thanks Mom, I don't know what I'd do without you."
"It's not a problem honey, I'm your mother, this is my job. Now, why don't we go shopping, it's been ages since we've had any mother/son time."
"I'd love that, then I'll take you for dinner, my treat."
"Alright, just let me go get ready." Andrea smiled as she stood and went to change.
While Blaine was waiting, he sent a text to Kurt explaining that his mom was okay with everything and that he was going to spend the day with her so he'd have to cancel their movie marathon, but promised to call once he got home. As he walked out of the door with his mom, he felt as if for once, everything was perfect in his life, and he loved that feeling.
