Rachel burst into the choir room, pulling a boy along with her, not even glancing at him as he protested.
“Hi everyone, I’ve brought my brother to Glee Club. I thought we could use the extra voice and before you all protest, I taught him everything I know, he’s up to scratch.” Rachel practically flung her brother from behind her so that the rest of the New Directions could see him.
“Cute,” Whispered Kurt to Mercedes. “But I doubt he’s got the juice.”
The both shared secret smiles. Being a Cheerio definitely had its perks, what with Mercedes being a complete diva and able to get away with it and Kurt not being slushied every day for being gay. They also got to make dibs on who they’d like to date making that person off-limits. They both turned to the front, looking for an indication as to which team he played for.
“Rachel, you know you can’t just give someone a place in New Directions,” sighed Mr Schuester. “They’ve got to audition.”
“I know, Mr Schue. He’s prepared; I taught him all of my best tricks.” Rachel patted her brother’s shoulder affectionately before finally letting go of his hand and leaving him stood awkwardly in the middle of the room.
“Uh, hi. My name’s Blaine and I’ll be singing Something’s Coming from the classing West Side Story.” He mumbled, shuffling his already tattered sneakers.
“One of my favourites.” Rachel squealed to Finn, clapping her hands and the music started.
As Blaine started singing, the rest of the Glee club began to actually pay attention. He may be Rachel’s brother, but he didn’t give off the same feelings as her. You didn’t want to put a sock in his mouth when he sang, for instance. He seemed unsure of himself and his abilities, slowly building his courage as the song progressed and belting out that final note.
“Got a pair of lungs on him, I’ll give him that.” Mercedes sighed. She was still bitter that Rachel was getting more solos than she was, and she was clearly extending this bitterness onto any siblings she may have.
Kurt didn’t say anything, and as Mr Schue and the rest of the New Directions welcomed the younger boy, he only wondered whether Rachel had picked out his odd outfit.
