Morning afters are never a pretty sight…but when Kurt Hummel wakes up in little New Kid’s arms, who knows what kind of day this will be.
“Kurt…” Blaine whispered, kissing his hair softly. “Wake up…”
Blaine was knelt down next to the bed, where Kurt was still asleep. He brushed his fingers through Kurt’s hair and kissed his forehead again.
“Kurt.” he said, a little louder. It roused him, Kurt’s eyes fluttered a tiny bit and he stretched his body out and then shrunk back into his original position, this time with his eyes open, fixated on Blaine.
“What time is it?” Kurt asked, his throat hoarse.
“Just after 5.”
“In the morning?! Fuck you, Blaine.” he pulled the blanket over his head and slammed his eyes shut. Blaine pulled the blanket back and grabbed his hand.
“Come with me for a while…we can sleep after…” he whispered.
“No.”
“Please?” he pouted, tugging on Kurt’s hand.
Kurt sighed heavily. “Where?”
“Just, trust me.”
“Really?”
“Kurt. Trust me, I’m serious.”
“Blaineeeee.” He whined.
“Please,” he whispered, kissing the end of Kurt’s nose.
Kurt sighed heavily.
“Where could you possibly take me at 5am?”
“You’ll have to come and see. Bring the blanket.” Blaine said, standing up. He slipped Kurt’s shoes on for him and helped him to stand up. He lead them downstairs, over the several sleeping teenagers scattered around the house. He switched the light off when they reached the door, and then opened it, signalling for Kurt to go outside. Kurt cocked his eyebrow at him.
“Outside? At 5am?” he gazed out the door. “It looks freezing.”
“You have a blanket! Besides, you’re already up now.” Blaine reasoned.
Kurt sighed and shuffled out of the door, Blaine clicked it shut and slid his arm around Kurt under the blanket.
“Can you tell me why you’ve kidnapped me? The suns not even up yet.”
“You’re getting warmer, Hummel.” Blaine laughed. “Get in.” he unlocked his car from the keys and Kurt stopped to look at him.
“We’re driving somewhere?”
“It’s like 5 minutes, stop complaining.” Blaine climbed into the drivers seat and waited for Kurt to put on his seatbelt and then he backed out of the driveway.
There wasn’t any need to create conversation, there never was between them. Kurt watched the trees and houses go zooming past until Blaine pulled up outside a small forest entrance.
“You’re taking me into a forest at 5am? You’re starting to scream serial killer to me.”
“Oh come on, if I was gonna kill you I’d have done it a long time ago.” Blaine grinned. They climbed out of the car and Blaine took his hand, leading him into the opening of the trees.
“just…a little further…” Blaine mumbled.
“I’m starting to think you don’t even know where you are.” Kurt commented and then yawned.
“Here we go.” Blaine sounded surprised with his finding but he tried to cover it up. “Down here…”
“Blaine what are- oh.” Kurt saw it, then.
At the end of the line of trees, there was a pond, at least it would be a pond, if it wasn’t heavily frozen over. There was a little bench at the side of the pond, frosted flowers scattered in the ground growing in different colours even in this weather. It was stunningly beautiful. The phrase “Somewhere only we know” popped into Kurt’s mind but he pushed it away.
“Come on.” Blaine smiled, tugging Kurt towards the pond. As they reached it, Blaine tested the weight of the ice, he pressed his foot experimentally, then both. Then he jumped. Not even a small crack, it seemed to have been frozen over for over a month at least. Blaine slipped a little but Kurt grabbed his arm to steady him. Blaine looked up at Kurt, who was laughing casually at him.
“Put the blanket down and get on here!” Blaine exclaimed, moving further onto the ice.
Kurt placed the blanket on the bench and then ran to skid on the ice, as he did, he slipped, falling backwards. Luckily, Blaine managed to get to him just in time to catch him and steady him, but as they did, Kurt tried to tug away from him.
"Hey, hey." Blaine hushed.
"I'm fine." Kurt insisted.
Blaine grabbed his waist gently and span him on the ice until they were facing each other.
"Do you trust me?"
Kurt gulped and looked Blaine in the eye.
"Yes." He said clearly.
Blaine smiled a little and laced their fingers together, skidding backwards along the ice to drag Kurt an inch at a time further forward. Kurt's eyes darted to his feet.
"Hey," Blaine squeezed his hands softly. "Look at me. Trust me," he repeated.
Kurt obliged, and by the time Blaine had sped up a little bit so they were actually moving somewhere, Kurt began giggling.
"What's so funny?" Blaine couldn't help but laugh a little to.
"Why did I agree to this?" Kurt laughed.
Blaine stopped suddenly and Kurt's body crashed into his, but Blaine steadied them.
"What is it?" Kurt whispered, his breath hot against Blaine's lips.
"Look." Blaine glanced up, Kurt followed his gaze. "It's snowing."
Kurt grinned and then met Blaine's eyes again.
"Come on," Blaine said, dragging him a little further.
"No, no, I think I wanna try by my self." Kurt said, taking his hands away from Blaine's.
"Okay, go for it." Blaine grinned, sliding off to the other side of the frozen pond. He watched fondly as Kurt took tiny glides, trying to build up the courage to go any faster.
After a few moments, he seemed to be getting the hang of it, until Blaine saw what happened, before it actually did. Kurt was heading backwards, and he was about to hit a particularly slippery piece of ice which Blaine could see from the way it glistened, even under the disappearing moonlight.
Blaine skidded over, and slipped on the exact piece of ice before Kurt did, their bodies impacted and they fell to the ice together, limbs seemingly tangled amongst one another.
“Smooth, Anderson.” Kurt laughed.
“Hey, I wouldn’t have had to come over here and catch you if you weren’t such a show off.”
“Your balance seems shit too, most of the time, you can’t talk.” he grinned, as they stood up and began sliding around again.
“I have fantastic balance-” he jumped and span in the air, landing perfectly on the ice. “- thank you very much!”
“What?!” Kurt squealed in disbelief.
“I was a cheerleader, it wasn’t even a suggestion that I had bad balance.”
“You were a cheerleader?!” Kurt slid over to Blaine warily, he wasn’t that confident on the ice, so he reached his arms out towards Blaine, who linked their hands together and pulled their bodies close.
“I was a cheerleader.” he repeated softly. Their faces were inches apart, Blaine could see the redness of his cheeks and nose where the cold wind was hitting him. His eyes were practically glistening, and even though he was shivering slightly, Blaine knew he wasn’t complaining.
Kurt sighed, his breath coming out as a small cloud of air.
“Thank you.” he whispered quietly. Blaine smiled and ran his finger along Kurt’s slightly pink cheekbone, his skin was icy cold, thumb gliding down to Kurt’s chin. He tilted his head down a tiny bit to eye level and kissed him softly. Their lips were so cold against each other, but they moved together tenderly.
Blaine pulled back and looked above the tree line, and then back to Kurt.
“C’mere, come sit with me.” he guided him over to the bench and laid the blanket out for them to sit on. They cuddled up close to keep warm and Blaine was just smiling into the open.
“What are you grinning about, Cheshire?”
“Shhh, watch.” Blaine said quietly.
As if like clockwork, the sun began to rise from behind the trees, a low orange light swept the ground gradually building as the sun appeared in the distance. Slowly, but beautifully, the forest seemed to come alive around them. The trees and flowers sparkled under the new light and the pond itself seemed more real, less stable. You could see for miles into the forest, it made Kurt wonder…how did Blaine find this place?
“It’s so beautiful.” Blaine commented.
“It’s perfect.” Kurt agreed.
Kurt leant to his side to rest his head on Blaine’s shoulder, he was shivering still so Blaine wrapped his arms around him, and they just sat like that for a while, watching as the sun glistened softly on the ice and the snow settled on the treetops.
