Maybe he shouldn't have written it. It was stupid. He was stupid. Doing something like this would just make things do badly wrong. As soon as he tried to be friends with these boys they would figure out he was a waste of time and chuck him off on his sorry ass.

Something slid back through the door.

'Nice to meet you Kurt. I thought that maybe you fell asleep.'

He turned the note over in his hands. This person-Blaine was trying to make a conversation with him. Kurt scribbled a reply on the back of the note 'I did for a while but I woke up when you guys started to put them under my door. Nice to meet you as well.' and put it back through to Blaine.

This was fun. He hadn't really talked to anyone over the past couple of days. His Dad had called to check up on him and a few of the teachers had welcomed him but nothing other than that. Here he was, sat on the floor of his dorm room wrapped in a quilt and passing notes underneath his door. It was strange, but a nice kind of strange.

A different note was sent back.

'Do you want to join us for the movie night?'

A movie night? He was being invited to a movie night be people who didn't even know him. It could be fun. A room full of boys who seemed to be nice. Still unsure he answered the note.

'I don't know. I don't really know anyone.'

The reply was quick.

'That's why it's a great idea.'

It would be easy to meet people. If he didn't like it he could always hide back in his room. Smiling to himself Kurt sent it back.

'What movie are you going to watch?'

The next note was different. It had a question on it and then two boxes.

'You pick. Smurfs or Toy Story 3'

Really? Smurfs or Toy Story? What were these boys? Six year olds?

'I'll go with Toy Story 3.'

'Good choice. You going to come out now? Jeff wants to meet you properly.'

What did he mean, meet properly?

Taking a deep breathe Kurt gathered himself up off of the floor. Adjusting the quilt around his shoulders as he opened the door.

---------------------------------

There was no note sent back. Did he scare him off? Push him too far? As Blaine was getting further into his mind his back met the floor. Above him was the shocked face of Kurt staring down at him.

"Hi Kurt."

The pale boy was holding onto the quilt huddled around him like a life line. Chestnut hair a shock contrast to his pale complexion and his eyes wide from shock but beautiful.

"What are you doing down there?" Kurt's voice soft and musical even in a whisper.

"Down here? I was leaning against the door. It's not that bad down here. Kind of comfortable after a while." He was rambling but it looked like Kurt was smiling slightly. Making an idiot of himself seemed to work.

"Sorry if I…umm…hurt you." Kurt pulled the quilt around himself tighter.

"You didn't. Don't worry about me. Come on let's go down to the common room." He picked himself off of the floor and extended his hand for Kurt to take. The other boy looked at his outstretched hand and stared. Blaine chuckled nervously. "I don't bite. Come on." Kurt still wasn't moving, just staring at his hand. Blaine grabbed hold of the quilt and started to walk down the hall.

"You'll like Dalton movie nights. Most of the Warblers come to them so it's always fun."

Nothing.

"Umm…So, Kurt. How're you liking Dalton?"

Still nothing.

Blaine glanced over his shoulder. Kurt was still there but not listening. He was glancing around the corridor with wide eyes.

"Here it is." Blaine dragged the other boy through the doorway where some other boys were sitting.

Some of the boys were on the floor, others spread out on the couches.

"Hey, guys. This is Kurt." He stepped out of the way so that Kurt was in full view of the others. The pale boy pulled the quilt tighter around himself and suddenly found a bit of the stitching incredibly interesting.

"NICKY LOOK!" Jeff shouted from the floor trying to get up.

Kurt whimpered and hid behind Blaine.

Nick grabbed onto his boyfriends waist so that he couldn't get up and scare Kurt anymore. "Calm down babe. He's not going anywhere."

"But he mi-" Jeff was cut off by Nicks lips.

Blaine turned round, grabbed Kurt's quilt and dragged him over to sit on one of the couches.

"You can sit here. Okay?" He gently pushed the other boy down and sat down next to him.

Kurt nodded and snuggled into his quilt.

---------------------------------

All the other boys had turned back to watching the DVD but Jeff kept staring at him and Blaine kept glancing at him.

Kurt drew into himself more if that was possible. Burying his nose into his quilt and sighing.

This week had been stressful plus the whole freak out in the library today didn't help his drowsiness. He closed his eyes and tried to relax. Evening out his breathing like his mother had taught him to do when he wanted to go to sleep.

He let his mind wander. Finding memories he hadn't brought up in years.

He could remember the heat of that day. Soft hands rubbing the sun block into his face. Musical laughter as he tried to do the same to his father's face after he refused any from his wife. He could remember how big his smile had been that day and how big hers was.

He missed her. Boarding at Dalton meant his couldn't sit in his room and lean against his mother's vanity table for comfort. All he had were pictures and little bits and pieces that he could take with him. It wasn't the best situation but he could deal with it.

He started to drift off.

---------------------------------

"Dude, is he asleep?" Wes whispered from across the room.

Blaine tried to look down without waking the sleeping boy on his shoulder.

"I think so. He's quiet if that's any sign."

"He's always quiet." Nick said from the floor. "I wonder why? I mean, I know he's new and all but people are only quiet for a couple of days here and then they start talking and stuff."

As the boys were watching the movie they all slowly started to fall asleep. Only Blaine, Wes and Nick had managed to stay awake.

Blaine carefully leaned his head on top of Kurts and sighed.

"I wish he would talk to us. In the corridor on the way here he was just so quiet, even when I asked him stuff. He just kept looking around. It was almost like he was scared something was going to jump out at him…" Blaine trailed off.

All three boys lost in thought.

"Maybe he was." Nick suggested looking at Jeff sleeping in his lap. "I can only assume that he went to a public school. Some of them are pretty rough. Maybe it was like your school Blaine? " Nick looked up at Blaine.

"I hope not. I really hope that's not why he's here."

"It would make sense." Wes reasoned. "His reaction in the library. Why he seems reluctant to talk to people."

"I know it makes sense but I still hope that's not why."

The boys turned their attention back to the DVD as a small yawn came from the floor.

"Nicky can we go to bed?" Jeff was more mumbling than speaking and Blaine could swear his eyes weren't open.

"Course we can babe." Nick got up from the floor and helped Jeff stand up. "Night guys."

Wes watched the two walk away before he turned back to Blaine. He watched him for a while.

"You like him."

It wasn't even a question. It was a statement.

"I don't even know him Wes."

"Doesn't mean you don't like him."

Wes got up from the couch and quickly left the room and Blaine to his thoughts.

Could you like someone you hardly knew?
