Title is from I Will Not Bow.
A/N Ok, yes. I know that Darren probably wouldn't be able to pull off screaming. But oh well. This is fiction. I can do what ever I want. If I wanted to, I could make Kurt a rainbow Pegasus that eats butterflies and poops cotton candy. Not that I would, because that would be really stupid.
"Blaine, I think Glee club will be good for you," Mrs. Pillsbury told him. He sighed.
"Fine. I'll join Glee club. But there's no guarantee I'll get in," he said.
"Alright, well, come on. Let's go let Mr. Shue know so you can sit in on a meeting," she said cheerfully, getting up. Blaine followed her to the choir room and came in behind her, a little hesitant when he saw everyone turn to look at him. He stared at the floor.
"Ok, well then, guys, we might have a new member!" Mr. Shue said to the group of kids. He ushered Blaine forward and he walked over to him, eyes downcast. "This is Blaine Anderson."
"Mr. Shue, he needs to audition!" a girl in the front row said. Blaine could already tell she was going to bother him, with her oh so peppy attitude.
"He can audition later if he wants," Mr. Shue said.
"I'll audition now," Blaine said.
"Oh, well ok then, go ahead," Mr. Shue said, smiling at him before moving to sit down in one of the chairs on the risers. Blaine pulled out his iPhone and got onto You Tube, looking up an instrumental of the song before pressing play.
"Fall!"
The scream fell easily from his lips, surprising the group of students before him. He smirked a little as he kept singing.
"Now the dark begins to rise,
Save your breath it's far from over.
Leave the lost and dead behind,
Now's your chance to run for cover.
I don't want to change the world,
I just want to leave it colder.
Light the fuse and burn it up,
Take the path that leads to nowhere.
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in..."
A boy in the back of the room caught his attention, making his smirk falter a little. The boy was wearing what looked to be designer clothes and had features that were the perfect mix of masculine and feminine. Even from where he was, Blaine could tell that his eyes were a gorgeous shade of blue-green. The boy had a bit of a smile on his face as he watched Blaine sing. Blaine shook his head a little and kept singing, his voice not failing him a bit and making him smile a little.
"I will not bow, I will not break,
I will shut the world away.
I will not fall, I will not fade,
I will take your breath away.
Fall!"
The group was staring at him with shocked expressions, some had gaping mouths, other were just staring, as if they couldn't believe that the small boy before them could sing like this.
"Watch the end through dying eyes,
Now the dark is taking over.
Show me where forever dies,
Take the fall and run to heaven.
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in!
I will not bow, I will not break,
I will shut the world away.
I will not fall, I will not fade,
I will take your breath away.
And I'll survive, paranoid,
I have lost the will to change.
And I am not proud, cold blooded, fake,
I will shut the world away."
Blaine grinned as he sang the chorus again.
"I will not bow, I will not break,
I will shut the world away.
I will not fall, I will not fade,
I will take your breath away.
And I'll survive, paranoid,
I have lost the will to change.
And I am not proud, cold blooded, fake,
I will shut the world away.
Fall!"
The room was silent as the song ended, the only sound being everyone's breathing.
"Wow," a bigger guy with a Mohawk said, breaking the silence. "Who knew a guy like him could sing like that?"
"That wasn't singing," the annoying girl spat.
"Yes it was. You're just saying that because you're probably used to Broadway and stuff. You know what, though? Music is more than just show tunes. There is more meaning in the song I just sang than most of the songs that are played over and over now," Blaine said calmly, his voice a bit raspy from screaming. "Isn't it this club's thing, that they don't really fit in, and that they don't want to fit in? That they like being different? Well, metal is just like that. Metal is about being different. The song I just sang was about not bending to the will of society and being who you are, no matter what anyone says or does to you." The feminine guy grinned, making Blaine smile a bit.
"Did you even listen to the chorus, Berry?" the Mohawk guy said.
"Shut it, Puckerman," the annoying girl spat.
"It's true. What's that song called?" Mr. Shue began.
"I Will Not Bow, by Breaking Benjamin," Blaine replied. Mr. Shue smiled.
"Well, you're the only Glee kid we've had that can... do that thing you did..." he said, looking a little bemused.
"Scream?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah," Mr. Shue replied, smiling. "You're the only one who can do that."
"Well, it's easy to learn how. You just have to be careful not to overdo it or you'll mess up your throat," Blaine said.
"Like when I was trying to sing Defying Gravity and I had to expand my range?" the feminine guy asked. Blaine smiled a little when he heard his voice. It definitely suited him well, very high pitched but definitely masculine.
"Yeah. It's like that," Blaine said. The guy smiled back.
"Will you teach us guys how to do that?" the tall guy beside the annoying girl asked, gaining a glare from her.
"Yeah, sure. Maybe we could sing some Black Veil Brides or something," Blaine laughed.
"Alright, well, we'd better get back to our lesson," Mr. Shue said, standing up. Blaine nodded and moved to go sit down.
"Hey, why don't you sit by me?" a soft, high pitched voice asked. Blaine turned to see the feminine guy smiling at him.
"Oh, uhm, sure," Blaine stuttered, a blush instantly creeping onto his cheeks. The guy smiled.
"I'm Kurt," he said, extending a hand. Blaine shook it.
"Blaine. But you already knew that, of course," Blaine said softly as Mr. Shue began the lesson, which was, oddly enough, diversity. Their assignment was to pick a partner and sing something out of both their comfort zones.
"Partner?" Kurt whispered.
"Yeah, sure," Blaine said, blushing once more. God damnit, why won't I stop blushing?! he thought. Kurt grinned.
