Blaine woke up and immediately was confused. Why was the bed wet? He reached over and turned on the lamp that he and Kurt kept on his bedside table, then picked up the covers...
Then, he screamed bloody murder. Kurt shot up, eyes wide.
"Baby, baby, why are you..." Kurt trailed off at the sight of the blood, and Blaine burst into tears.
"No, no, this can't be happening, this can't be right, I-I..." Blaine sobbed, his hands moving to cover his face. Kurt wrapped his arms around him, holding him close. Blaine clutched at him, crying into his shoulder.
"No, no!" he cried, one hand moving to his abdomen. He cried harder as his hand pressed against the flatness of his stomach.
Blaine! BLAINE! WAKE UP! A voice yelled. The vision of blood and tears and pain slowly faded into gray, then Blaine opened his eyes to find Kurt staring at him, concerned.
"Baby, what happened? Why are you crying?" Kurt asked him as Blaine sat up and wrapped his arms tight around him, sobbing hard. He fisted his hands in the back of Kurt's night shirt, clutching at him.
"I-I had a nightmare t-that I miscarried, Kurt, it was terrible, there was so much blood!" Blaine sobbed. Kurt shushed him softly, kissing his forehead. He cradled Blaine in his arms as he cried. The door opened to reveal Elizabeth, the left shoulder of her old cotton nightgown falling down. She rubbed her eyes.
"Mamma, why are you crying?" she asked, walking over to her dad and wrapping her arms around him.
"Mamma had a bad dream sweetie," Kurt murmured. Elizabeth frowned, then moved to sit on the bed beside her parents, hugging Blaine tightly. She began to sing softly, trying to comfort him in the only way she knew how.
"Stella stellina
la notte si avvicina:
la fiamma traballa,
la mucca é nella stalla.
La pecora e l'agnello,
la vacca col vitello,
la chioccia coi pulcini,
la gatta coi gattini;
e tutti fan la nanna
nel cuore della mamma."
Blaine had fallen silent while their daughter sang to him, the lullaby Stella Stellina so familiar to him and comforting. He hugged Elizabeth tightly, burying his face in her hair. He pressed a few soft kisses to her hair, then turned and wrapped his other arm around Kurt, holding him close as well.
"Stella Stellina," he whispered in Elizabeth's ear. She giggled.
"Well, I remembered you singing it to me when I was little, and I remember you telling me about how your mamma sang it to you when you were little. I thought it would help," she said softly. Blaine smiled and kissed her temple.
"It did help, sweetie. Thank you," he murmured. She smiled and snuggled into his chest, and he gently stroked her soft curls.
"Ti amo, mamma," she whispered. (I love you, mommy.) Blaine smiled.
"Anch'io ti amo, il mia bambina," he said softly. (I love you too, my little girl.) He and Kurt got up, Blaine carrying Elizabeth, and tucked her back into her bed before going back to their room. Kurt curled up next to Blaine and placed his hands on his already slightly showing baby bump, kissing him softly.
"It's not dead, Blaine. It was a dream," he whispered.
"I know," Blaine said softly, his own hand moving to gently run over his abdomen. "And I'm so glad it was."
