Elizabeth cried hard, clutching at her ankle.
"Elizabeth!" Blaine yelled running toward her, eyes wide with fright.
"It hurts, it hurts!" Elizabeth sobbed. Blaine scooped her up in his arms and sprinted to he and Kurt's home, putting her in the car and buckling her up. He dialed Kurt's number and told him that Elizabeth had crashed her bike and hurt her ankle and that they were on their way to the hospital. Elizabeth never stopped crying. He carried her into the hospital.
"Help, my daughter, she hurt her ankle," he told a nurse, who immediately got Elizabeth laid down and wheeled her to an X-Ray room. Blaine sat down in the waiting room, feeling like he was going to cry when Kurt rushed into the hospital.
"I'm sorry, I-I took my eyes off of her for just a second and she ran into something, I-I don't even know what she hit but s-she-"
"Shh, it's alright, it was an accident, ok? She'll be fine," Kurt soothed. "There was no blood, right?"
"No, nothing, she just was crying," Blaine said, and tears rolled down his cheeks.
"Hey, it's ok. Accidents happen. We just have to see what the doctor says."
"You don't understand, Kurt, she's my baby! I carried her for nine months and gave birth to her, I'm her momma!" Blaine said.
"I know that, baby, but calm down, everything's going to be alright. The most that will happen is that she gets a cast," Kurt said softly. Blaine began to cry, and Kurt pulled him into his arms.
"It could have been so much worse thought, Kurt, she could have gotten really hurt, and it would be my fault!"
"Hey, calm down. It wouldn't be your fault. It's not your fault. It was an accident, she hit something on her bike. You couldn't have prevented it. The doctors will fix her up and we'll be able to go home, ok?" Blaine nodded, still crying. His sobs eventually quieted into hiccups, and the nurse came out and called for them. They got up and were lead to a small room that contained Elizabeth, who was sleeping in a hospital bed, and a doctor.
"Ah, Mr. and Mr. Hummel-Anderson," the doctor said. He extended a hand to them both.
"How is she?" Kurt asked.
"She's doing well. Just a bad sprain. We have her all patched up, but the pain medication is going to make her kind of groggy. Just be patient and tell her what happened."
"Alright," Kurt said softly. Blaine stared at the little girl lying in the hospital bed, his eyes pained. She stirred a little and her eyes opened, then focused on him.
"Mommy?" she whimpered, and he was immediately at her side.
"How are you feeling?" he asked her.
"I'm better now, Mommy," she said softly, her voice slurred from the medication. "Doesn't hurt anymore."
"That's good, dolcezza," he said, gently stroking her curls off of her forehead. (sweetie) She smiled at the little nickname.
"Sto bene, Mamma, tu non puoi proteggere da tutto," she said sleepily. (I'm fine, Mommy, you can't protect me from everything.) His eyes filled with tears and he kissed her forehead.
"That won't stop me from trying," he murmured, hugging her.
