Author's Notes: there's one more part to this i hope to be putting up in about two weeks. things are a little crazy, but i should get it done:)

December 23rd, 2013

Fang is walking away from his house, no his mom’s house. There are WhiteCoats in her house. It disgusts him, but he can’t go back. Not even for his clothes. She’s safe though. He made her leave as soon as he heard about the Unveiling. Part of him is happy. He didn’t make her leave for nothing. His fears were validated. But the other, bigger part of him is both angry and hurt.

After his mother left, Fang was stuck with his human father. He was, is, an asshole. See, his father never knew his mom was a wind user. He had no idea she could manipulate wind to cut through anything, or fly. He had no idea she was anything other than human.

Fang walks out of his first grade classroom and wants to show his dad this new trick he learned; his dad tries to figure out how he did it. When daddy brings it up to mommy, she freakes out, and she looks really scared. She grabs Fang and tells him he must never do that ever again. That it’s bad, and he mustn’t do it. Then daddy gets an ‘I get it!’ look.

Fang’s father yells at mama, and Fang feels bad for his mom. He didn’t mean to get her in trouble. Then he sees daddy hit mama, and he doesn’t like it, so he pushes daddy back with his new trick. Slams him against the wall. When dad gets up Fang tells him that it is not nice to hit. His dad leaves.

Fang never uses his wind magix on another human again.

He didn’t come back for years, and when he did, it was because he was lazy and didn’t want to get off his drunken ass to get a job. He begged Fang’s mom for forgiveness, Fang too. The boy’s mother caved and he moved back in. Fang never forgave; he couldn’t as long as he remembered. That was two years ago.

The halfling’s mom left four months ago. Fang knew what his dad would do to him. He knew how that man felt towards him. There was no love. Only disgust. Fang’s father probably thought How could his son be some freak? Why couldn’t he be normal? And his father made Fang know, without a doubt, how he felt. It’s started with him slapping Fang around. Then it was shoving him into walls, like Fang had once done to him. It only got worse after that. Fang never fought back. He never complained. He took it, hoping he would someday just be able to gather up the courage to leave this place.

Now, he has no choice as he walks away from the house of his childhood. He hopes the man who gave him life dies. He would not wish, even on that man, what people go through in the School. So Fang hopes they kill him, and make it as quick as possible.

December 30th, 2013

Fang walks to Kurt’s. It’s the only place he can go now. It’s been a week since he had to leave, and he hasn’t talked to Kurt since that day. He’s been sleeping in abandoned houses. There are lots of those now, since the Unveiling. A lot of Others moved to remote places; places known to be friendly to all Other kinds, no, pure blood Others. Most people find halflings dirty, impure, not human but not all the way Other either. Rejected by humans and Others, Halflings make their own class.

Kurt will make things better though. He’ll be mad for a bit, but Fang will tell him everything, and he will understand. It will get better.

                December 31st, 2014

Fang was right. Everything at Kurt’s is better. Kurt wasn’t mad when Fang showed up at his door. He was relieved. When Fang told Kurt everything, the stuff about his dad, his mom leaving, and the WhiteCoats, Kurt just listened, and let him talk. When Fang was done, Kurt kissed him, and called in Santana and Brittany, the real trouble twins.

“Yes?”

“Fang needs clothes, a toothbrush, and at least two pairs of converse. Can you do it?”

“You insult us, of course we can.” Santana states plainly.

“What size are you, and what style do you normally wear?” Brittany asks, trying to size the boy up.  “Actually, ignore the second question.”

“I’m a small on top, and I wear a 30 by 38 bottom. Why, what’s going on?”

“They’re going to get you things that you need, babe.” Kurt says, leaning onto Fang’s chest. “You said you didn’t want to risk getting your stuff, so we’re getting you new stuff. What kind of toothbrush do you use?”

--

After the first few days Fang’s there, the awkward transitioning phase, everyone settles in, and things basically go back to normal. Kurt sometimes disappears for an hour or two, but nobody says anything. The flock notices he is much happier.

Blaine gets worse, but nobody says anything about that either. Nobody is confronted, and nobody ever complains.

Everyone prefers to have an ‘ignorance is bliss’ silent agreement. Although that isn’t quite right. It’s more of an ‘ignore to have fake bliss’. None of them know how all this fake bliss will fall apart very soon.

February 5th, 2014

Kurt knew that they needed to move soon. The flock had been in this house for three months now, and now that they had Fang living there as well, the small apartment looked overcrowded and suspicious. But Kurt was happy here, and Fang had only been there for a few weeks.

But Kurt knew it wasn’t safe. He would tell the gang tomorrow that they needed to pack up.

February 6th, 2014

It’s 1:27 am when Kurt hears a loud bang, but not in their house, it’s the neighbors. He sits up and pokes Fang trying to wake him up.

“Fang, wake up. We need to get clothes on, and get the kids out of here. I think they’re next door.” Fang sits up, fully alert, and tries to not scream.

This can’t fuckin’ be happening again. They just tried, like, five weeks ago! What the hell do they want with me?! He thinks to himself. Although he knows exactly what the WhiteCoats want from him. None of the evils want the flock. Fang is one of the only magix halflings in the world that can actually control his element.

See, there are four magixs. One for each element. Normally, only full blooded magix Others can control whatever their parents could. Sometimes, some users can even control two elements; they’re always masters.

They’re after Fang because he is the best wind user in the US, and he’s only a Halfling. They want to train him. He’s going to let them.

“Kurt, get the kids and go out the back. Fly to the tree we went to when I first met you, and don’t think about turning back.”

“When will you be there?”

“Soon. I love you.” Fang knew he was lying, but Kurt wouldn’t have left if he knew what Fang was planning on doing.

As soon as Fang heard the back door close, he walked out the front door, wearing Kurt’s black hoodie, red skinnies, and one of the pairs of converse that Brittany stole for him. He will always be grateful for what they did for him.

But now he needs to focus.

Fang gathers all of the energy around him, pulling all of his strengths together. Hopefully he can catch them by surprise. No one else knows he’s mastered three elements. Fang feels the wind circling around him making something like a twister starting at the ground, reaching high up. The wind has strings of fire beginning to course through its veins, like the hits of heroin flowing through his father’s veins. Like the hatred and flowing through Fang’s veins. Like the love flowing through his veins for the pale boy flying away.

He can’t keep this up for long, but he can long enough that the flock can get away. Long enough for Kurt to get away.

Fang starts to pull at the earth surrounding him, there’s not much, but it’s there. When he has all three elements he can control surrounding him, covering him, has all the WhiteCoats watching him, he walks towards them. He won’t hurt them, even though they deserve it, but the WhiteCoats don’t know he won’t hurt humans.

None of the WCs see the six bird kids fly away, even when they stop for a second to stare. No one can refrain. Fang looks divine, as if he were a god. He has not only a red fire, but blues, purples, greens, white fire, yellow, orange; anything you can imagine. He looks beautiful, and powerful. Terrifying. And the WhiteCoats are salivating over him.

So Fang knew what would happen, Victoria thought. He knew that they would want him, and only him. He left so Kurt would be safe.

The flock turns, in unison, to fly to some tree Kurt knows about. They never look back again, and Victoria sends Fang one last thought.

Thank you.

Sometime Later

Fang doesn’t know how long he’s been here, at the School. They put him in the tank a while ago. Sometimes they let him out, but only for training and feeding. Sometimes they do experiments. They messed with something in his brain, but they mess with a lot of stuff. It makes no difference to him. He knows that Kurt got away. One of the other halflings told him. One of the newer ones. Fang doesn’t know her name. If you know names then you could, potentially, tell one of the WCs. No names, no connections; it’s an unspoken rule amongst the “students”.

That’s what they call them, the halflings who were caught. WCs say that the moment you’re picked up, you become a student. Being in the school is hard. No one, evil or not, deserves to go through this. It’s maddening.

The halflings have things they do to keep them sane, talking to themselves, pretending to eat rainbows (just because it sounds like it would be fun), and just doing random shit. Most of the things make them seem insane, but no one here cares either way. If you are sane, you’re alive. If you’re insane, you’re alive. None of it matters so long as you’re breathing.

Some More Time Later

“Where are your friends?”

“I don’t know. They move too much.”

“Bullshit. You know where they are.” Fang feels the pain again. No one even touches him, but his head feels as if someone’s stuck a knife in it. Then twisted the blade. The only thing missing is the blood. In fact, if that were actually happening, it would be a relief. But Fang won’t give it up. Not when he knows they’re after Kurt. “Tell us!”

The WhiteCoats have been going at this for hours. Fang always says the same thing…mostly.

Fang smiles. “You really want to know where they are?” The man standing in front of him nods impatiently. “Then check up your ass. There’s gotta be something up there.” The WC steps forward and slaps the boy.

“Turn it up this time.” Dr. H-Bomb says as he steps back, stepping all over his coat. The bottom of which, Fang notices, is dirty as hell.

Must be too long. Fang thinks. This is the last thing he remembers thinking before he blacks out from the pain.

--

When he starts to wake up, his vision blurry, he hears a voice, young, cracking, as if its owner was, too, being shocked, again and again, saying the one thing Fang himself dared not say.

“They’re in an apartment…it’s in Lakeview. I don’t know where…I swear it.”

Fang, still too weak to say anything, fades back into the blackness. Having no fight left in him, he doesn’t even say anything when the guards put him back in the tank.

--

A Few Days Later?

Fang doesn’t know the two guards who pull him out of the tank.

“We found ‘em bud. Wanna help us pick ‘em up?” The guard laughs loudly, too loudly. Fang hasn’t adjusted to being outside yet. He can’t think right yet.

“Don’t worry too much though, sweetheart.” Fang hears another voice, somewhere to his left? He doesn’t know. “We won’t hurt them. We promise.”

Fang opens his eyes a little bit wider, the light out here still too bright. “You’re not going to hurt them?”

“No! Of course not!”

Fang believes them. He has no other choice.

--

By the time the van pulls up to the flock’s building, Fang is fully awake and alert. He knows that the guards were probably lying when they said they wouldn’t hurt them. He knows he has to help them in some way.

They take the stairs to be discreet. Fang can tell this is not an untrained group. They move swiftly, and in unison, as if this is routine. As if ending someone’s life is normal.

They kick down the door, knowing it’s easier than knocking. All of the halflings are on guard now. Overly cautious, and rightly so. Before Fang could do anything, one of the guards cuffed his hands, and grabbed his face.

“Listen you stupid little bitch, take this pill and don’t say a goddamn word. Do and I fuckin beat your brains out. Got it kid?”

Fang nods and puts the pill in his mouth.

Then he’s thrust into the apartment, and shoved onto his knees. He sees what they’re doing to the flock.

“What are you doing?! You said you wouldn’t hurt them!” Reed, Fang’s personal guards, kicks him in the side.

“I told you to shut up, boy.” Reed says lowly in Fang’s ear.

So much for helping out. Fang thinks to himself. Fang is sit back and forced to watch. He keeps his mouth shut.

“Kurt! Two o-clock!” Fang’s head whips around. He didn’t say anything, but he heard his voice. Brittany’s fighting her ass off, but for some reason she’s yelling at Kurt in his voice.

What the fuck is she doing?! Kurt’s gonna get kil—never mind. I get it. He fights harder when he thinks I’m here. I wonder if she does this every time. I wonder if she knows I’m even here.

And now Kurt’s kicking ass, and he doesn’t even look like he’s trying. He looks distracted, and out of touch while he kicks the living shit out of Roger, one of the guards.

“Shut your mouth!” Reed raises his gun and pistol whips Fang. It fuckin hurts, but when Fang slumps to the floor, it’s only pretend. He needs to think about how he’s going to do this.

In the meantime, he spits out the pill meant for blocking his magix. Obviously the guards don’t have training on how to force someone to take an unwanted pill. The WCs must’ve left that out of their training. Fang hears groans all over the room, and a window breaking. There’s growling from an animal, and then silence.

The two guards who got him out of his tank, lift him up now, pulling him towards the stairs. The guards were told to get the kids, and they failed. They don’t have authorization to look around the Halflings’ apartment, so the guards just leave.

Fang makes sure that he feels like dead weight, as if he’s passed out. And then he feels sunshine on his back. All at once, his muscles tense up, he creates a large whirl wind (pushing away anyone within a five-foot radius), and shoots a huge chunk of rock at the van the guards arrived in. Then he pushes off the ground and flies away, literally floating on air.

The guards just stand there, not quite knowing what the hell just happened.
