Friday morning I woke up late, being taunted by dream of Kurt, his lips still lingering on mine. I glanced at the clock and realized he’d be here at any minute. I took a quick shower, a very cold shower, and got dressed with just enough time to have some cereal before I heard light knocking on my front door.
“Hey guys!” I greeted happily as they smiled and entered.
“Hey Blainers!” Sam greeted excitedly, Kurt laughing at the nickname.
“Hey Blaine.” Kurt smiled warmly and hugged me close. The hickeys trailing his neck and the goofy smile on Sam’s face were indication that I’d never have Kurt the way I wanted to. Sure Kurt considered himself single, but I could see the love in Sam’s eyes. And seeing that left my heart broken.
“Hey, so you guys ready to go?” I asked plastering a fake smile on my face and gesturing back outside towards the driveway.
“Sure thing.” Sam smiled happily. That stupid smile.
Kurt sat shot gun and stared intently at me the whole time, making me feel nervous the whole time I was driving. When he saw my grip on the wheel tighten and my knuckles turn white he told me to pullover for a second, so I did.
He unbuckled his seatbelt and turned to face me, grabbing both of my hands.
“Blaine, why are you so stressed?” He asked lightly his thumbs tracing over my knuckles in a soothing gesture.
“I’m not stressed; I’m just focused on something else.” I lied easily, I don’t think Kurt bought it, but I feel like he understood not to push it.
He told me to just relax and he brushed my loose curls out of my eyes, he kissed my lips softly, lingering long enough for Sam to cough and then he pulled away slowly. “Just relax; your pretty face doesn’t need any worry lines.” He said freeing one hand and caressing my face. He smiled and took both his hands back, buckled his seatbelt and patted my thigh before turning the radio up like this moment of intimacy hadn’t just happened.
“I’m so glad it’s a half day today.” Sam said happily breaking the comfortable silence.
“Oh I know right!” Kurt smiled amused.
“Four shortened classes and we’re outta here.” Sam continued.
“Get to go home, sit on the roof and smoke, and just chill until next Tuesday.” Kurt smiled happily.
“Oh but Glee club’s having that meeting tonight and tomorrow.” Sam groaned.
“True true, maybe we could go get dinner and catch a movie, and sneak back in late tonight, and then just stay in my room until they leave.” Kurt suggested.
I didn’t like that idea one bit. Not only would they be going on a date, but they’d be in Kurt’s room by themselves for an entire night and day. I shivered at the images and decided to intervene.
“You two shouldn’t have to hide just because Rachel’s coming over. You should stay. Kurt you promised me you’d be there.” I said looking at Kurt with what my older brother calls my puppy dog eyes.
“Awwwh Kurt, he’s too adorable. We haaavvveee to stay. You promisedddd.” Sam whined and Kurt laughed.
“Fine, we’ll be there. But just because of this little cupcake.” He said ruffling my hair. “If you get tired of singing your show tunes karaoke you should just come hang out with us.” Kurt smiled.
“I may just have to take you up on that.” I smiled as I pulled into the parking lot.
Kurt and Sam walked off to hang out with Q, and I went to Glee club. Kurt skipped first period today, but he came back for third and fourth which we shared together. I asked him why he skipped but he didn’t answer. He had a bruise on the side of his face and hugged me when I asked about it. He kissed the top of my head in the hallway and told me I was perfect and to never change for anyone. I told him to have courage and he started to cry. It was just one tear but I knew he was breaking.
The whole car ride home Kurt stared listlessly out the window and Sam kept thanking more for the ride, saying it looked like it was going to rain. The sky looked clear to me, but something told me he was thanking me for the ride for another reason. That reason confirmed when we drove past a bus stop and some football players punched their hands in a threatening manner and Kurt sighed and turned the other way.
“I know the glee thing doesn’t start until four but if you want you can just come with us. I’m sure Finn hasn’t even given you our address yet.” Sam said and pointed down the street to turn.
We pulled up to their house and Finn’s car was already there, I started walking up to the front door, but I noticed that wasn’t the direction the two were heading in. Kurt opened the storm cellar on the side of the house and walked down the stairs, Sam following closely behind him gesturing for me to follow.
Kurt hit the light switch and when my eyes adjusted I saw that this was there room. It contained a futon and a filled bookshelf. There was a guitar in the corner and sports posters and stats on the walls. A desk sat in the corner with a lamp and a beanie bag chair as a seat. The real desk chair was broken in half sitting against the wall in the corner. The bed wasn’t made, but the rest of the room was neat. Clothes hung in the closet and a mirror sat leaning against the wall. The top of it was shattered and the glass sat on a dressed next to a journal and a bottle of pills. The room liked dreary but I didn’t question it.
Kurt climbed a ladder and opened a door that lead to their actual home and shouted rather than entering. “Hey Finn we’re home! And we kidnapped your hobbit friend! We’re going to force him to pierce his face and worship Satan!” He covered his mouth and snickered as Sam busted into a fit of laughter.
“Kurt Hummel! Give us back Blaine! He’s a member of the Glee club and I don’t appreciate you messing with him!” Rachel’s shrill voice echoed through the room and Finn laughed.
“Rach calm down, they’re just messing with you. Blaine’s safe. He knows Kurt; they’re in a few classes together.” Finn explained and Rachel protested.
“Does she really think you guys are that evil?” I asked with a laugh.
“She swears the skanks are a cult.” Sam laughed and looked towards Kurt.
“I’ll be right back.” He said tugging on his shirt sleeves and walked into the home.
“Kurt don’t. Today was supposed to be a fun day. Just forget about them, they’re jerks.” Sam tried to comfort him but Kurt walked off anyway.
“Damn it.” Sam groaned and I looked at him confused.
“Not my story to tell bro.” He said sadly and I began to worry for Kurt.
“Where’s he going? What happened today?” I asked and Sam just told me to relax.
“He’ll be okay, he gets like this. Karofsky hit him and a few of the other football players ganged up on him. The said some mean things, sometimes Kurt cares just a little too much about what others think, but he’ll be okay.” Sam said patting my shoulder.
“Is that why he was so quite in the car? Is that why he missed first and second period?” I asked.
“He’s okay Blaine, things happen. But he’ll be fine. He’s just going to cool off.” Sam said and sat down on the bed grabbing his guitar and playing random songs.
It was weird that he was so normal about this; I just wish I knew what was going on through Kurt’s mind right now.
