The intervention had been very beneficial in the Kurt not only saw what he was doing was wrong but was strong enough to accept the help being offered.
His family and friends were very proud of him for this and proud of how he reacted when they told him he’d be meeting with a therapist in the late afternoon.
He was happy to go, in fact willing.
Something said today definitely sunk in and they were happy about it.
It went well.
“Today helped me so much, thank you all for your truthful and loving letters. I appreciate all of you being here for me. I love you all and with your support and encouragement I am going to get help. I know now that cutting isn’t something I should be doing to make up for my depression, it’s actually adding on to my depression. I agreed to go to speak with a therapist and I really think if I get the help I need I can get better. And I wanted to thank all of you. So thank you.” Kurt smiled fondly as a few stray tears fell down his cheeks.
There were various responses of ‘no problem’ and ‘we love you’ and ‘what are friends for’ in affirmation.
He did have really good friends.
“Today was nice.” Kurt said to Blaine who was now hugging him tightly.
“It was wasn’t it?” Blaine replied.
“I’m just surprised you guys didn’t just sing me sappy songs about help or whatever.” Kurt laughed.
“Actually…”Blaine laughed.
“Hey Kurt, we wanted to now sing you some songs to let you know that we’ll always be there for you and that we love you and stuff.” Finn announced proudly.
Kurt just smiled and laughed encouraging Finn to go on.
“So I just wanted to say that as your brother I love you and you can always count on me.” Finn spoke before turning on his iPod in the docking station.
The music began to play softly and Finn soon began to sing.
“If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea, I’ll sail the world: to find you. If you find yourself lost in the dark and you can’t see, I’ll be the light to guide you.”
“We’ll find out what we’re made of, when we are called to help our friends in need.”
“You can count on me like 1 2 3 I’ll be there. And I know when I need it I can count on you like 4 3 2 and you’ll be there.”
“Because that’s what friends are supposed to do. Oooooh oooooooh ooooooh yeah yeah.”
The song drew to a close as Finn pulled Kurt into a hug.
Kurt was honestly brought to tears, he really did have family who cared. “Thank you Finn.” Kurt smiled.
“No problem dude. I just figured I should sing you a song you know. Let you know I’m there for you. Plus you know Bruno Mars is like our thing now. You know. Remember at the wedding we sang “Just the Way You Are” to you so you knew how we loved you well you know just the way you are. I sang this so you would know you can count on me-” Finn started to ramble but was cut short by court.
“I know like 1 2 3. Thank you Finn, it means so much.” Kurt smiled.
“Love you bro.” Finn said hugging Kurt tighter.
“Love you too Finn.” Kurt smiled.
“Well he’s not the only one who loves you Kurt. Me and the glee girls got a song for you too.” Mercedes announced.
“Ready?” Tina asked.
There was a chorus of ‘yeah's’ as the girls began to take their places and Mercedes hit the music
Mercedes took the lead, “When you try your best, but you don’t succeed…When you get what you want but not what you need…When you feel so tired…but you can’t sleep…stuck in reverse…And the tears come streaming down your face…When you lose something you can’t replace…When you love someone but it goes to waste…Could it be worse?” Mercedes sang beautifully.
Stepping backwards as the rest of the girls danced around making their way to the center of the room in front of where Kurt stood.
“Lights will guide you home…And ignite your bones…And I will try…to fix you…” They sang together their voices melding together perfectly.
They danced around Kurt, it wasn’t the usual, sexual, kind of dancing these girls typically did. It was almost like interpretive dance that corresponded to the song. And it was beautiful.
Tina stepped forward and took the next verse, “High up above or down below…When you’re too in love to let it go…But if you never try…You’ll never know…Just what you’re worth…” She sang stunningly.
The girls came back together and sang, “Lights will guide you home…And ignite your bones…And I will try…to fix you…” They sang.
The song ended and all the girls hugged Kurt and kissed him on the cheek, each telling him they’d be there for him.
“That was beautiful.” Kurt smiled.
“But aren’t we always? No need to thank us.” Mercedes joked.
“I love you guys.” Kurt smiled.
“I have a song for you too Kurt.” Blaine smiled.
“Do you know?” Kurt asked pulling his boyfriend in for a quick kiss.
“I sure do.” Blaine laughed.
“So this song isn’t as cheerful, but I wanted you to know that I love you and I don’t want to go through life without you wishing I could go back in time to help you more. So with that said. Here goes.” Blaine smiled cheerfully as he walked over to the iPod and switched his song on.
“Tick tock hear the clock countdown, wish the minute hand could be rewound. So much to do and so much I need to say. Will tomorrow be too late? Feel the moment slip into the past. Like sand through an hourglass. In the madness, I guess, I just forget to do all the things I said.”
“Time passes by, never thought I’d wind up one step behind, now I’ve made my mind up.”
“Today I’m gonna try a little harder. Gonna make every minute last longer. Gonna learn to forgive and forget. ‘Cause we don’t have long, gonna make the most of it. Today, I’m gonna love my enemies, Reach out to somebody who needs me”-Blaine pretended to reach out to Kurt-“Make a change, make the world a better place. ‘Cause tomorrow could be one day too late. One day too late. One day too late.” Blaine sang.
The song came to a close as Blaine pulled Kurt into a hungry kiss.
Blaine broke the kiss to speak but kept there foreheads rested against each other.
“I felt like this after the incident, and then I felt like this in the hospital when you overdosed, and then last night when I found out you had been cutting again this song came into my head. I wish I had been there for you to help you sooner. But I wasn’t. But I am now, and I am going to help you. Because I don’t want it to be too late. I don’t want to lose you and then have to go all my life thinking about what I should have done. I’m here for you now and I love you and you’re getting help and that’s all that matters. Okay I’m rambling, but do you understand?” Blaine spoke never breaking eye contact with Kurt.
“I understand, thank you so much. Not just for the song, or the letter, just everything. I love you Blaine and I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thank you.” Kurt cried pulling Blaine into another kiss.
The kissed passionately until a few of the onlookers-Puck-began making catcalls while other people-Burt-cleared their throat.
The boys both laughed and pulled away.
“Thank you all so much.” Kurt smiled.
“You all are more than welcome to stay for dinner if you want.” Carole invited.
“Kurt, you have therapy in half an hour. Maybe Blaine can take you and you can come back and we can all have dinner. I’m just going to order a pizza or something.” Carole added.
There were several nods and responses of affirmation.
“Come on Kurt.” Blaine smiled grabbing his hand and leading him out the doorway.
