“Mr. Hummel?” a nurse questioned.

“Yes?” Burt replied.

“Both your son and his boyfriend have woken up if you wanted to see them.” She replied.

“Oh yes, thank you.” he stood following her.

“They’re still a little out of it from the anesthesia but they’re up for visitors.” She explained.

“Thank you so much.” Burt replied entering the room.

“Hey guys!” Burt said cheerfully upon entering the room finding Blaine and Kurt snuggling in one of the beds.

“Hello Burt!” Blaine replied happily.

“Hi dad.” Kurt said sadly. “I’m sorry.” He added.

“Kurt, it’s okay. You’re going through a lot. Once you’re physically cleared to go home, we’ll get you the mental help you need.” He explained.

“Thank you.” Was all Kurt could say?

His father ran over and hugged both boys.

“I’m so glad the two of you are okay! We’ve been so worried.” He said.

“I’m glad we’re okay too.” Blaine said happily.

“I’m sorry to have worried you guys.” Kurt frowned.

“It’s okay Kurt. Don’t apologize; we’re just happy you’re alive. I’m not sure what any of us would do without you. I love you kiddo. And so do Carole and Finn. And most certainly Blaine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone so in love in all my life. You really got someone special Kurt, don’t you ever forget it.” Burt said fondly.

“I won’t. I love him too. So much.” Kurt said pulling Blaine closer to him.

“It’s good to see you Mr. Hummel, but you look exhausted. Kurt and I are fine, why don’t you back home and rest. We can talk more tomorrow.” Blaine said politely.

“You’re just kicking me out because you want alone time with my son.” He teased.

Blaine blushed embarrassedly ad he quickly stumbled for words to say to explain himself.

Burt just laughed, “I’m just joking kiddo. I know you’re a good kid. With all your manners and such, I think I will take you up on your offer and go home. You kids have a nice night. I love you both.” He said hugging them and leaving.

On the way down stairs he though he recognized someone.

But he couldn’t place it.

He was just too tired and wanted to get home.

Downstairs the attendant at the front desk had just given Karofsky the room number and level.

He hurried into the stairwell to get to the room.

He froze still when he saw the familiar face.

Burt Hummel had just past by him, but he seemed to not even notice him.

God that was so close.

He walked quicker and reached the room.

He looked through the glass window in the door before entering.

His heart skipped a beat when he saw that Kurt was alive, thank God.

But he was immediately saddened when he saw him in the arms of his boyfriend, cuddling and trading kisses.

Why couldn’t that be him?

Why couldn’t he cuddle Kurt?

Or trade kisses with him?

Ugghh.

He entered the room not even knocking.

Kurt gasped and Blaine immediately threw his arm in front of him protectively.

“Karofsky, get the fuck out of the room right now. I swear to God I will call the police if you come any closer to Kurt.” He yelled.

“Calm down. I’m not gonna hurt him. I just wanted to talk.” He explained himself.

“Still no. Get out. You’re dangerous and I don’t trust you to be in the same room as us. I know what you Karofsky and I wanted you out of this room.” Blaine hissed.

“No.” Kurt said weakly. Shaking his head.

“What is it sweetie?” Blaine asked immediately his tone went from rage to worry and concern and love.

“Let him talk.” Kurt said quietly.

“Ugghh fine, you can stay. But only because Kurt says it’s okay. If you even breathe on him though I will not hesitate to kick your ass.” Blaine said switching back to protective mode.

“Okay, I won’t come any closer I just wanted to talk.” Karofsky explained.

“Go on.” Kurt said with his best bitch-glare.

“I’m sorry Kurt. I’m sorry for what I did to you. I’m sorry for what I’ve done to you. I’m sorry for everything.” He said not meeting Kurt’s gaze.

“Why’d you do it?” Kurt asked.

“Because I wanted you to love me. I wanted you to look at me the way you look at Blaine. I figured if I forced myself on you, you’d comply. And when you didn’t I got angry. I know you’ll never love me. And I’m sorry.” He began. “The receptionist told me about what Blaine did, how he selflessly gave you part of his organ to keep you alive. It was an act of love and I know what I have done is so wrong and I’m sorry. I’m sorry to you too Blaine. I know what I’ve done is wrong, and I’ve traumatically messed with both of your lives and I’m sorry.” He said a tear rolling down his face.

Dave Karofsky was actually apologizing.

What was this?

“And I think I’m going to turn myself in. I know you haven’t spoken to anyone because you’ve been too afraid. I’m so sorry. I don’t want you to worry anymore. I belong in jail for what I did to you. I’ve pretty much ruined your life and I’m sorry Kurt. I’m so sorry.” He said sadly.

“Thank you for apologizing Karof-Dave. It means a lot to hear you say that.” Kurt said softly.

“Maybe jail won’t be that bad.” Karofsky shrugged.

“Just don’t drop the soap. Or you know do.” Kurt teased.

Karofsky and Blaine looked at him with their jaws dropped.

“Too soon?” he asked.

The shook their heads and laughed.

“Well I’m going to go home, explain things to my parents, and tomorrow I’m turning myself in. I can’t live with the guilt. It’s better this way.” He explained.

“Thank you Dave. That’s really brave of you.” Kurt said softly.

With that Karofsky left.

“Who would have known he had a softer side?” Blaine asked.

“Yeah, I wish that side had been around all along. It would have saved us a lot of trouble.” Kurt laughed.

“At least now things will be better.” Blaine sighed cuddling Kurt.

“Yeah.” Kurt said softly.

This time he meant it.

Things could be better.

He hoped.
