The summer went by quickly and Kurt got better each day. He was still well below the healthy weight for his age and height, but he was learning to eat again. It’d taken some effort but now he knew and accepted that in order to get better had had to stop resisting food. He no longer wanted to cut, he knew he couldn’t and anytime he felt like he needed to he’d simply do something else, something less destructive. It took time to break the habit, but with the help of doctors, friends, and a supportive boyfriend, he had finally done it. He hadn’t cut or had any incident since the last time he was in the hospital and that was progress. He’s wounds were healing and so was he.

Summer itself was spent as routinely as the rest of his stay in the psychiatric ward: medicine, breakfast, therapy, lunch, therapy, school work, dinner. The only difference was Blaine was there every step of the way.

In fact, it was having Blaine there that helped him recover.

Whenever he didn’t want to eat, Blaine was there.

Whenever he was upset about what he had to talk about, Blaine was there.

Whenever eating lunch was a struggle, Blaine was there.

If anything at all slightly stressful happened during the day, Blaine was there to comfort him.

With Blaine’s help Kurt got better.

This brings us to where we sit now.

Kurt and his family and Blaine in an office with Doctor Sandra, Doctors Jessica, and Doctor Andrews.

“During his stay here, Kurt has shown excellent progress. With a few minor setbacks, he has been able to turn his life around. He is no longer self relied on cutting, and he has starting gaining back the weight he needs. All and all he has made great efforts towards recovery. Life will never be easy after what he has been through, but with this I think he has gained knowledge and is stronger. With all this said, we have gathered here today to determine a date for his release.” Doctor Andrews addressed Burt and Carole.

Release.

Kurt was finally going to be able to go home.

This is what he’s been dreaming of.

He’s finally better, and he’s on his way.

He went through hell and came back on top.

He knew he could beat this.

“Now, he will still need to take various anti depressants and anti anxiety medications when needed. But other than that he has been cleared for a release.” Doctor Sandra smiled.

“When would you like to take him out?” Doctor Jessica asked.

Pfft. As if it was even a question.

“Immediately.” Burt, Carole, Finn, and Blaine said at once.

Kurt just smiled.

“Well Mr. Hummel, if you’ll follow me I have some paperwork and documents for you to fill out. Kurt, the rest of you can go gather your things from your room and you can say your goodbyes.” Doctor Andrews smiled.

Burt left with him and the everyone else practically skipped to Kurt’s room.

“Hello Kurt!” Holden said cheerfully from where he was laying on his bed. “Oh hi Blaine, hey Finn, hello Carole.” Holden said politely.

They all chorused in some form of a greeting and made their way to packing up Kurt’s things.

“What do you want us to do?” Finn asked.

“I’ll pack my clothes, duh. Blaine can you grab my stuff from the bathroom. Finn can you take down the pictures hanging up and put them in this.” Kurt asked holding out a large envelope.

“Sure thing.” Finn smiled.

“Sir, yes, sir.” Blaine teased doing a mock salute.

“What do you want me to do sweetheart?” Carole asks.

“Sit there and look pretty.” Kurt smiled kissing her on the forehead. “I don’t have anything really, the sheets and all were the hospitals, and I wasn’t allowed that much personal stuff, so it’s not too much to back.” Kurt explained as he put all of his clothes into his messenger bag.

“That’s all the clothes you had with you?” Finn laughed.

“I know right, I’m surprised I didn’t kill myself or something.” Kurt laughed. “Oh god, bad joke. I’m sorry.” Kurt tried apologizing but just laughed harder.

“I’m glad the pain you put me throw while you were in here is amusing to you.” Blaine smiled walking out of the bathroom.

“It was a figure of speech.” Kurt tried to defend himself.

Everyone just smiled and laughed light heartedly.

“Why are you packing?” Holden asked confused.

“I’m being released!” Kurt smiled.

“Oh. Well that’s nice. We’ll all miss you, Kurt.” Holden said softly.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be back to visit. Blaine said it wouldn’t be right for him to quit his job just because I’m being released so I figured I’d come back and volunteer or something.” Kurt smiled.

“Awwh that’s sweet.” Blaine said kissing Kurt’s cheek.

“I’m really happy for you Kurt.” Holden said softly.

“Thanks. Now get over here and give me a hug. I’m going to miss you! You were the best roommate ever! Now I get to go home and live with Finn. Ugghh.” Kurt teased hugging Holden tightly.

“Bet he wasn’t a better roommate than me.” Blaine winked.

“Ewwwww! Blaine, that’s my brother. I don’t wanna hear about it.” Finn laughed.

Carole just smiled and Kurt blushed.

“Bye Holden.” Kurt smiled.

“Bye Kurt, it was really nice meeting you. Good luck with the rest of your life. Invite me to the wedding.” Holden laughed.

“No problem. Do you know where the girls are so I can say goodbye to them?” Kurt asked.

“Yeah, they’re in the cafeteria.” Holden answered.

“Blaine, Kurt. You guys go ahead. Kurt we’ll take your stuff, you go say goodbye to your friends and then you can ride with Blaine and you too can meet us at breadstix.” Carole smiled.

“Okey dokey. See you there.” Kurt said happily.

After a tearful goodbye to Kim and Bethany, he was on his way.

They sat in Blaine’s car, and he drove to Breadstix.

During the drive, Kurt couldn’t help but stare in wonder and awe at his perfect boyfriend.

His perfect who had been there for him all along, and always will be.

“Blaine, I love you.” Kurt smiled.

“Why Kurt, I love you too.” Blaine laughed.

“And I just wanted to thank you for everything. Thank you for always being by my side, and thank you for not giving up on me.” Kurt said softly.

“I would never give up on you.” Blaine says truthfully.

Blaine smiled devilishly and started singing.

“Ooh ooh we’re no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment’s what I’m thinking of. You wouldn’t get this from any other guy. I just wanna tell you how I’m feeling, gotta make you understand.” Blaine sang smiling.

Blaine ended his song and both boys laughed.

“I was just rick roll’d.” Kurt could barely contain his laughter. “You’re such a dork!” He teased.

“Yeah but you love me.” Blaine said parking the car at Breadstix.

“I do love you.” Kurt smiled.

Kurt leaned forward and Blaine kissed him.

Both boys kissed passionately until there was knocking on the car window.

“Come on I’m hungry.” Finn said when Blaine rolled the window down.

Both boys laughed, kissed again, and went inside and joined there family.
